I did come across this: http://www.newyorker.com/tech/element...

In Berger's case, it's cuddly pandas, not cats, but the cute part seems true.

Neil Clarke (clarkesworld) | 43 comments Anthologies can go into NetGalley (mine just did), but I'm not aware of anything specifically for magazines. I have a short list of reviewers (Locus, Year's Best editors, etc.) that we sent preview copies to, but since the issues are free online anyway, I've never built-up more than that for use with Clarkesworld.

If my site stats are any indication, most blogged reviews drive very little traffic. io9 solo featuring your story is probably the exception to the rule. Tor.com reviews a distant second. An Amazon review increases sales, which is always nice.
