Ellen B Hi group,

I know it's a long shot, but I'm really hoping someone can give me some tips here. I've seen lots of mention of the SerialReader app over the last couple days and think it's a great idea. I've found it and installed it on my iPhone, but I'm not sure it works with VoiceOver, the built-in screen reader (I am totally blind). I can read the first page or so of an issue, but then can't continue reading; it just stops reading, usually in the middle of a sentence. Are there, by any chance, any other VoiceOver users who've tried the app and can give some assistance? Does anyone know if there's a group for the app here on GR?

Thanks,
Ellen

Melanti | 1894 comments I'm sure you've already tried this, but what about swiping the screen to get to the next page?

The app doesn't scroll continuously like a web page - you have to swipe towards the left edge to flip it to the next page.

Sorry, I wish I could be of more help, but I don't own any Apple products, so I can't test it out myself.

Ellen B Hi Melanti. I wrote to the app developer and he's going to work on fixing the issue and hopefully release an update soon. :)

Melanti | 1894 comments Great! I'm glad he's willing to make it more accessible for everyone.

I hope it's a quick and simple fix that can get pushed out soon.

Tytti | 1010 comments If you don't mind me adding another question. I bought a new phone and so I downloaded all "literature apps" I could find, almost, including the SerialReader.

But how do you mark the books here, do you add another SR edition or just pick one of the existing ones? I haven't seen any SR editions. I like to keep a very accurate record of my reading and this does make it a bit challenging.

I've been using the edition for free ebooks when I read with Serial Reader. Figure that has to be as close as possible right now for me.

Tytti | 1010 comments Yeah, I though I might have to do that as well. But I think I might prefer to use the issues to keep track of my progress, and then use some hardcover to get the pages for my blog (because I already have to do that with other books). You would think that SR books should be added here, as well.

Melanti | 1894 comments Someone posted this web-based alternative for Serial Reader in another group:

https://dailylit.com/

Same concept as Serial Reader but it's via email or via the website rather than an app. It might work better with screen readers.

I think Serial Reader has a better selection, but per the FAQ, Daily Lit has a couple of features for free that Serial Reader wants you to pay for (skipping ahead, pausing a serial, etc.)
