Teresa I haven't read any of Lang's Fairy books. Are they good?
I'm reading Crimson Death or Golden Son. I can't remember either of the authors names right now, lol. Green Island looked interesting, but it's not available at my local libraries.

Kelli Lang is good, albeit exhaustive. many of his stories are painstakingly long

Michelle | 5 comments 'The Colour Purple' is one of my all time favourite books!

Stacie (stacieh) | 2 comments I just read Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie for this one. So good!

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 21 comments It has yet to be released but Iron Gold by Pierce Brown. I'll drop everything when this comes out.

Kelli Black Mountain by Rex Stout. One of the few Nero Wolfe stories to take place outside the US

I just read this for a Book Riot task. I was surprised by how much I liked it and what a moving story it was. But I am going to use The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman for this one.

Anastasia | 22 comments I was going to recommend Half A Yellow Sun, also by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. I didn't realize she used colors so frequently in her titles.

Emilie Richards (emilierichards) | 9 comments I downloaded Riders of the Purple Sage as my book over 100 years old, but decided to use it for this category of the challenge. Never having read Zane Grey it was fun to go back in time and see why his appeal was so great for his readers. Loads of flowery description, stock characters with moral dilemmas, lots of riding, shooting and exploring, and in between plenty of tension. I enjoyed this look at ZG's world, although I doubt I'll take another one. But the fun of this reading challenge is to read outside our usual comfort zone, and this was a good start.

Mackey (mackeylee) Island of the Blue Dolphins because it never gets old.

Great idea. I remember loving this one as a child. I bet my 6-year old will, too. Wonder if there's an audio book version ...

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) I'm going with The Color Purple, as I'm using it for BookRiot's Read Harder Challenge (A classic by an author of color).

I'm thinking of re-reading that one for the "childhood favorite" prompt on another challenge.

I expect I will have read several that fit this prompt before the year is out. I've already read Black Coffee and will be reading The Color Purple next month.

Therese | 46 comments A few days ago I finished The Red Garden by Alice Hoffman. It is a collection of stories that center around a small town in Massachusetts that not every story features the garden. It is magical realism, and while there were a couple of chapters I didn't care for, this was not a bad selection for this category.

Teresa I read another book that fits this category, Ruby Red. It was enjoyable. I'm also starting Red Square.
