large, grassy, and bustling, this area in the middle of campus is a perfect place to people watch or hang out in between classes.

Mirabelle had been having a great day. When she woke up, her dorm was empty, so she got to take a shower without her roomates barging in to do their makeup, she had found a plug in town while grabbing some cigarettes, and she had scared off all potential company as she sat under the tree. She brushed her still damp hair off her shoulder, wondering if there was anything vaguely adrenaline inducing to do on this god-forsaken island. She picked at a hole in her ratty t-shirt, cursing her parents for sending her to this school to "shape up and become a proper lady".

☣ EMᕈRESS SERΔ ☣ (empress-sera) | 215 comments Luke wasn't doing anything that day. In fact, he was kind of bored. He walked through the quad, looking for someone to bother one way or another. As he strolled through, he spotted a girl who didn't quite look like she belonged in the pristine school. That was intriguing to him, so he made his way over. The closer he got, the more he realized that she was pretty. A smirk came to his lips, his mind deciding that flirting would be the fun thing to do here, even if she did look like she wanted to be scary. "Hey," he said casually, sticking his hands in his pants pockets.

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

"Hello." Mirabelle said to Luke, glancing up. He was what most girls would call devilishly handsome, but she really didn't give a rat's a** about that. He didn't look like the type she could scare away by flicking cigarette butts at, so Mira resigned to her fate of having to talk to another human being for something more than class notes or a group project. "I suppose you get all the ladies." She deadpanned, getting straight to the point. He certainly wasn't here for drugs or alcohol, he looked older than her.

☣ EMᕈRESS SERΔ ☣ (empress-sera) | 215 comments "Well, typically, yeah," Luke said with a little shrug. Up close, he saw she was younger than him. Not drastically, but it was enough. Smoking too...sort of reminded him of himself, not that he had ever been into smoking. It annoyed him to hold the thing either in his hand or his mouth, plus it smelled and took too long. So at least it wasn't a temptation of any sort. He flashed her a charming smile. "That obvious?"

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

"You reek of eau de player." Mirabelle told him, grinding her cigarette into the pavement next to her before flicking it into a trash can. "But you're secretly a mommy's boy." She had no idea if the last part was true, but it was a fun guess. "So, how'd you come across this lovely institution?" She questioned, regretting the fact that she had slept in past breakfast. Mira settled for a banana. "Let me guess. Your name is either something very jock like, or very old money. Lucas? Brock? Chad?"

☣ EMᕈRESS SERΔ ☣ (empress-sera) | 215 comments "I'm not a momma's boy," Luke replied. "My mom is dead, four years ago now. But you're close on the name. It's Luke." He looked her over carefully. He wasn't typically one for figuring things out on practically nothing. Deduction was not his strong suit. "What's your name?"

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

"Mira." She said, declining to offer condolences. She honestly didn't care one bit about his dead mother, nor did she think he wanted an apology on his mother's death. "Now, Luke, don't you have somewhere to be?" Mirabelle at her banana, glaring at others who stared at the pair of them.

☣ EMᕈRESS SERΔ ☣ (empress-sera) | 215 comments He nodded, not even noticing that she didn't say anything about his mom, but he would be lying if he said he wasn't surprised that she hadn't become uncomfortable at the mention of a dead parent. He smirked again at her question. "Nope. Nothing to do. Why? You enjoy my company that much already~?"

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Mirabelle looked at Luke, puzzled at why he was still being flirtatious... maybe it was his personality? "Not particularly." Mirabelle answered truthfully," I might have a more interesting conversation with a cantaloupe or Glam Clan member." Luke seemed decent overall but their conversation wasn't jnteresting and had no want of being one of his conquests. She had remembered her mother's demand of bringing a friend home for the holidays: Luke could be the answer.

☣ EMᕈRESS SERΔ ☣ (empress-sera) | 215 comments "Those girls are daft. Pretty, but daft," Luke commented. "I've never tried holding conversation with a cantaloupe, but if you recommend it, maybe I'll try." He knew she was being rude, of course, rude was his specialty. Without asking, he sat down a decent distance away from her, but still beside her under the tree.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Mirabelle let out a chuckle at Luke's witty remark. "You're not horrible." She told him, eyeing him warily as he sat down. "And are you to tell me you're the only boy in this school immune to the chas of Evangeline and her cronies?" Now Mirabelle was slightly impressed, although she didn't let it show.

☣ EMᕈRESS SERΔ ☣ (empress-sera) | 215 comments "Why thank you. I'll take that as a compliment," Luke siad with a smirk. "The girl's got charms, I'll admit, but she's too annoying to me to actually make me what to get involved with her in the least. Full of herself, definitely. Princesses are not my style."

Luke was certainly unusual for a player-- he was one who didn't desire a member of the Glam Clan, which was a superhuman feat for a typical boy in Mirabelle's minds. "Snake would be a more appropiate term." She jeered, looking out at the empty quad with the large trees and blooming bougainvillea. It was no secret Mirabelle detested the Glam Clan. All they did was parade around with their money and status with no other cares in the world besides petty popularity and ruling over the school with an iron fist. Mirabelle had an insatiable itch to get away from this dreadful campus, and race around in her Porsche 550 Spyder-- but alas, the roads here were not the best for racing, unless there was some secret underground racing club she didn't know about yet.

☣ EMᕈRESS SERΔ ☣ (empress-sera) | 215 comments ((So sorry this took so long >.<))

Luke chuckled and nodded in agreement with what she said. "Yes, snakes are a good name for them. I take it that you dislike them too," he observed in amusement. He didn't like them because they were petty and it just annoyed him to no end. They clearly had no grasp of what the real world was like and he couldn't stand it.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

"The only people who enjoy their company are wannabes." Mirabelle shrewdly commented, swinging her car keys around her finger. "Enough about the snakes, how'd you come to this fine institution?" The words fine institution were dripping in sarcasm-- Vanderbilt to Mira was no more than a gilded cage for the rich and famous eager to be rid of by their parents.

☣ EMᕈRESS SERΔ ☣ (empress-sera) | 215 comments "Post rehab help," Luke answered easily with a shrug of one shoulder. "Being home was too much of a temptation, so my step-mother suggested getting away. I'm not fond of this place, but hey, it's not home." He hated being at home with a passion. Ever since his sister left and his mother died, it was basically solitary confinement. Then it was a constant reminder of the addiction he had and was trying to beat.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

"Rehab." Mira noted, musing over that little fact. She felt no need to prod, but today she was in an awful sly mood. "Drugs? Alcohol?" She asked.

Mirabelle had some rather self destructive behaviors herself, but it wasn't like her parents cared. No, none of her activities mattered, as long as they kept their sprarklimg reputation. Her father could cheat, as long as the press didn't find out. Mirabelle could race cars, but just continue to do ballet to please her mother. Her mother could leave for months at a time, only to show up to movie premieres.

goblin gender (blanketedmelody) | 217 comments Orion was sporting a nasty headache. Dark sunglasses shielded his eyes from the bright sun above; this hangover wasn't the worst, of course, but it wasn't anywhere close to being painless. He sat in the middle of the grass with what seemed to be a journal of some sort in hand. To his left was a water bottle filled with Emergen-C, to his right pens in a mass assortment of colors. If you were to look at the journal right now all you would comprehend would be a bunch of scribbles, but to him this journal held the secrets to the universe. He was completely lost in his writing, obviously not paying attention to anything going on around him.

Claire paced around the quad, trying to find the optimal camera angle and position around the beautiful Vanderbilt Academy quad. There wasn’t much in nature that she appreciated - she’d rather be exercising in a gym than taking a run on a scenic path, but the weather was fairly nice today. Holding the latest item of her juice cleanse and some trendy oversized sunglasses, she walked over to a patch of grass near a statue and decided that it was the perfect place to take a picture for her famous instagram account. She saw one student sitting near her area, and she decided to take advantage of the opportunity to have a real picture instead of a selfie on her instagram. “Hey, do you want to take my picture?” Claire called out. “Who knows, I might even give you a shoutout.”

goblin gender (blanketedmelody) | 217 comments The sudden noise was enough to startle Orion. He muttered a curse under his breath, one hand on his chest in an attempt to calm his racing heart. With a rude remark on the tip of his tongue he turned to face- oh fuck it was Claire. Fuck fuck fuck fuck. He was rude, sure, but he would have to sacrifice his vow to honesty for this one simple calm casual interaction. It was going to be okay. "Uh.... Sure?"

Claire bit her tongue, holding back a rude comment about this guy. She saw him hesitate before agreeing to take the picture. Instead, she said “Great!” half-heartedly as she shoved a camera in the student’s face. “Take a couple.” She said as she remembered some of the tips from when she modeled for a magazine last year. Smile with your eyes, raise your eyebrows a little, and make sure to not show your teeth too much. There were so many small things you had to remember to model, but it was such a great experience that it made the whole ordeal worth it. She lifted her sunglasses off her head and held up her juice bottle, effortlessly smiling. She could already think of what her caption would be, endorsing the juice cleanse company. It wasn’t even that good of an idea, but she was one of their top ambassadors and would never say that in real life. “Done yet?” She asked the photographer.

goblin gender (blanketedmelody) | 217 comments Orion, for once in his 17 years of life, did exactly what he was told. He was only nervous around a handful of people: one person being his mother, and all the others being the Glam Clan. Even he knew that they were not one to mess around with. "Uh, yeah- Claire, isn't it?" he asked, handing her back the phone. He knew who she was, but for some reason the need for clarification came spilling from his mouth. Get a hold of yourself, Orion, he thought to himself, you could run mental circles around this girl any day. No need to be nervous. Despite considering himself to be above most of the students, those girls had the same 'oh wow i really need to impress these people' effect on him as it did everyone else. He just didn't want to have sex with any of them.

Claire wanted to roll her eyes at this person. She met these kind of people so often, astounded in the presence of someone as grand as herself. Taking back her phone as quick as possible, she said, “Yes, my name is Claire. You might have heard of me before.” She might have been overly pretentious, but she was tired of meeting people like this all the time.

goblin gender (blanketedmelody) | 217 comments "Just maybe." The joke came out a bit more deadpan than he had meant to. Oops. Leaning down to pick up his journal from the ground, he held it close to his side. It wasn't quite that he was worried that Claire would try and steal it (she wouldn't have understood it anyway) it was more of a fidget for him to simply have the weight of it in his hands. "Im Orion Stella, nice to meet you."

Claire smacked her gum as she watched Orion. “Oh, that’s nice,” she said. Watching Orion pick up his journal, she asked “What’s in there?” She wasn’t one for making a journal, but she was all for the illusion of organization and wellness. “Oh, is that a daily planner? I have one of those where I track my daily exercise and diet goals.” She seriously doubted that that was what was in Orion’s notebook, but she was curious.

message 28: by goblin gender (new)

goblin gender (blanketedmelody) | 217 comments Orion had to mentally restrain himself from rolling his eyes. "Not quite. Im not sure if you're familiar with Aldous Huxley's essays The Doors of Perception and Heaven and Hell, but basically..." he trialled off a bit, flipping through the pages of multi colored scribbles and various notes. "It's my theories about the existence of how we perceive things and why humans yearn for 'heaven' and 'hell'. It's mostly a bunch of gibberish, Ill admit, but it centers around the idea that the way to enlightenment is through how we perceive things, or the doors of perception. When we open them through the use of drugs, we momentarily reach god." Realizing that this all probably went right over her head, Orion straightened and cleaned his throat. "I'm not sure if you'd understand most of it, to be honest."

What was this guy saying? She completely zoned out as he was talking, pushing back her cuticles and looking at her phone, but she had no desire to pay attention to any of what Orion was saying. It might have meant a lot to him, but she didn’t care at all. She was expecting it to be more of a juicy secret type of thing, but this was more of just a boring subject. “Oh, that’s great, but yeah I completely didn’t understand any of that,” Claire laughed.

(( lol i fully expect orion to rant about philosophers next, haha!!! “kant? racist. socrates? sexist!” ))

message 31: by goblin gender (new)

goblin gender (blanketedmelody) | 217 comments Orion raised his hand in a see what i mean? gesture. She looked completely and utterly bored with what he was saying, something that he was very much used to. Not many people particularly cared about philosophy. He decided to dumb it down a bit. "We take shrooms to see god." It almost pained the poor man to make it that simple, because it was so so much more than that. What he had previously explained wasn't even scratching the surface itself. Claire was already looking bored, though, and she would probably walk away if he continued using fancy words like 'momentarily' and 'things'. Obviously she wasn't of the mental strength to comprehend even simple ideas.

((gosh ur so right, although sadly the thing he'd have the most problem with would be the flaws in their theories, not the fact that they were dicks. morality isn't important in his opinion))

Claire was eager to get away from Orion, and she hoped he would stop talking about such boring topics or she was going to scream. “Hey, I guess it was nice seeing you, but I have a soulcycle class in an hour and I need to get ready. I guess you now what that is, it’s pretty common around here.” Claire said pretentiously. Soulcycle was probably her favorite thing, between the peppy instructors and the calorie-burning intense biking.

oh no such big words like momentarily and things
