I absolutely love the quotes and appreciate the effort
Keep them coming. I am still writing but I wouldn't mind actually selling something soon. Has anyone seen any marketing success on Josh Grant's Diabolic Shrimp site?

Quantum (quantumkatana) Hi Vince - while quotes can be quite inspirational, where the rubber meets the road in self-publishing is hands-on marketing strategy and tactics experience. Check out what Graeme and Marie are doing (if you haven’t already). They’ve already done quite a bit of leg work, in particular in determining which book promo sites are worth the money.

There are many ineffective or poorly run services out there who are more than willing to separate authors from their hard-earned currency—not to mention the predators. The SFWA has a section, appropriately titled “Writers Beware”, dedicated to advising on shady practices and how to vet services.

Since—like me—you haven’t published your first book yet, you might also check out our group FAQ, near the end of which are links to Jane Friedman’s How to Publish (self- or trad-published) article (also see the post “How to self-publish or get your book trad published...”) Her website also has a plethora of vetted resources.

Vince Loggia | 52 comments Thanks, Alex, as always your comments are appreciated. One little correction, however, I have self published my first novel on Amazon. I am at work on my second and, breaking my own rule to a certain extent I am stuck near 100 pages with getting to my anticipated ending reasonably. I've only been stuck a day so I'm not concerned just yet. The bigger problem is getting frustrated by the lack of sales yet still persevering through writing another novel because virtually everyone I have read says that to sell one book you should have more than just it for sale.

Ah, good for you! (I didn’t see any of your books on your profile. I guess you just haven’t added it yet. ^_^)
