What a sweet reassuring thing for her to say. I will definitely repeat those words as well when getting critiques
That is a beautiful sentiment, Shannon. Thank you for sharing that with us. And please thank her for sharing her wisdom with you. Hugs!
Your beta reader is more eloquent than my beta reader. Her first feedback after finishing my rough draft was "Ghtjjjrjrhehehhjkk!"Which made me laugh, but didn't give me any epiphanies :-p

She's actually fantastic, and probably my biggest fan. I got great feedback after she fan-girled for a bit but her initial response was hilarious. She's the first to see any of my stuff because she's so enthusiastic and uncritical but isn't afraid to tell me when something doesn't seem to fit.
:) Then she was simply speechless, or the dog/baby typed for her. :PI have a beta like that. I consider myself lucky to have him and wish everyone at least one like that, so yeah, I get what you mean. :)
Previous comment deleted. Negativity and unsolicited criticism are both against group rules, which are located in the yellow box that pops up to the right whenever you hit reply. Also, please note that this is the fun folder and the original post was meant to inspire.
You lucky people. I have one supportive Beta reader and one who's pet name for me is smegghead.....Plus an editor whose middle name is picky....
But they keep me on the straight and narrow
I have an amazing beta reader like that she's brutally honest, very skillful and very reliable and encouraging and has become a great asset when it comes to my writing. She pulls no punches with me and gives constructive criticism, which I appreciate. She's a boss and I'm glad that I found her here on Goodreads. But she doesn't use the f word though :)

So I asked her a question about my book and her response was so fabulous, I think we all need to contemplate it for a while. Ready? Ok, here we go...
It's marvelous that you're writing. I'm glad to be a beta reader for you but you are the final judge for your own writing. It's good to get input from others but trust yourself, you're a writer and have something to say.
I sat there and stared at my laptop for the longest time. Isn't she amazing? She DID answer my question later on, but kept telling me to trust myself. I think that's the best writing advice I've ever been given. I just wanted to share, for anybody who's doubting!
