In 2015 my wife and I watched all 7 seasons of DS9 and I found the rematch commentary to be absolutely essential. And a lot of those posts reference the novels and comics too. I credit DeCandido's posts with hooking me into the tie-in fiction. His posts for TOS and TNG are awesome too.
