Ok so I fell asleep yesterday
Chapter 1-10
(view spoiler)[Since the beginning I knew that Cohen wasn't the killer, especially when she mentioned her lie detecting gift. and then she met the lord. First of all when she saw the king and the lord, and said that he was the regent before king took over I already didn't like him. Then she said that she couldn't see why her father admired the king if he even didn't speak to his people. Again I thought that's not the king's fault but lord's since he is trying to take the power. Then when he called her to him and then talked, the author mentioned her gift a couple of times, which I saw as a hint to pay a close attention. I usually do, when it comes to conversations, he said that the dagger and cloak belonged to Cohen and the blood was her fathers, not a lie, that why she knew he told the truth, since they actually did. But she didn't ask if Cohen was the killer, he didn't answer to THAT question, or she would have known sooner that it wasn't him.
Overall, so far I assume that the responsible one is the lord, he might have ordered it. (hide spoiler)]

and goddammit I know that girls like to overthink, but this much??? The thing is that the idea of this book isn't bad, but lately authors forget the whole picture and only concentrate on the feeling of the main character, which is annoying. Same is here. and I was expecting so much.. (hide spoiler)]

5% (view spoiler)[The first chapter was pretty vivid. I could really feel myself surviving all by myself in the woods...being cold, having to hunt to eat, and being afraid at night. I felt bad for her when the man at the market refused to trade with her. She really does not have any options with everything working against her and no one in her corner. (hide spoiler)]

I can't quite place him or his agenda though. I can't tell if he will eventually be a villain, if he is one the good guys, or just someone in between. The captain of the guard seems like a nice guy as a whole. Just someone that follows the rules. Leif seems kind. I like him. I hope that he is genuine, and that Britta can have a friend. I can't stand Tomas. He is filth. I am wondering if Cohen is really leaving a trail for Britta to follow, and if so then why?

While I am enjoying the way the story is going, I am not feeling particularly invested in the characters yet. I am hoping that that changes. =/ (hide spoiler)]

25% (view spoiler)[I was sorry to see Britta get whipped. Leif still seems genuinely kind. I loved that he shared the story about her father making him a crutch when he was injured.

So she finally found Cohen, or maybe he found her. I was surprised that she trusted the high lord so blindly about Cohen being the murderer when she knew him so well. If someone told me that my best friend murdered someone, I would believe them no matter how much proof they thought they had. I felt that the physical fight they had was unnecessary, but I am glad that they finally got through it.

I am still liking the story so far, but I haven't grown especially fond of the characters either. I'm a little disappointed about that, but we'll see if things pick up. (hide spoiler)]

46% (view spoiler)[I like seeing how Britta and Cohen interact. There is a sincere fondness and caring between them that is just too adorable. It is clear that there is something that Cohen is hiding from Britta, but I can't figure out what it could be.

I am curious to know what sort of "gift" Britta has. It is clearly something. I am thinking that it might be the rare "spirit" ability? Her mother is from Shaerdan, so maybe she got some of their gifts. (hide spoiler)]
