SOLVED. Sci-fi Book where a guy was beamed to an alien spaceship from the boat he lives on to take part in a hunt. [s]

The guy lives on a boat. The aliens that take him have them take part in this thing called the hunt. One race of aliens goes around the galaxy finding other species to hunt and if those species can survive after a certain period of time ( a sun sets or something) then they get to go home and are considered worthy. One character was an empath who slung rocks as a weapon but her people are pacifists. The aliens treat the ones they abduct very well before the hunt and very well if they survive the hunt. I borrowed this book from a friend like six years ago but it was an older book. 80s or 90s would be my guess.

There's a book called A Call To Arms by Alan Dean Foster (A Call to Arms) about a guy on a boat who is kidnapped by aliens to fight in a war for them, since the aliens are all pacifists to some extent.

Hunters is a great book. There's also a sequel, The Survivors. Not as good, in my opinion, but still well worth reading.
