Lorelei (goodreadscomlorelei_reads) | 393 comments Today I finished reading one of the best books I have read in a long time. Winter Garden is a tough book to read if you don't like the utter sadness of war as was the case for Veronyka and hundreds of thousands of people during the siege of Leningrad. How does anyone survive during such profoundly difficult times?
Kristin Hannah tells all the brutal details and yet I kept turning pages as the story was told so beautifully that I felt as if I were there listening to Anya's story at her feet with her two grown daughters.
This is the third book I have read by Hannah and it is my personal favorite. The other two were also very, very good. Ms. Hannah is fast becoming my favorite author.

Lorelei (goodreadscomlorelei_reads) | 393 comments The Secret Keeper earned another 5 stars from me and is one of the best books I've ever read. The story switches seamlessly through different time periods following the lives of three acquaintances through WWII. As has been said many times in other reviews, the ending is what makes this book so fantastic. This is my first book by Kate Morton and I have one more book to read of hers this year. I hope it's as great as this one.

Lorelei (goodreadscomlorelei_reads) | 393 comments A good 4 star book for me is Where the Heart Is. A book about a pregnant young girl who is dumped at Walmart by her boyfriend. She has the child in the Walmart and in the days and years that follow she finds a caring community of folks that love her and help her to raise her child. Billie Letts writing is easy reading and the story kept me turning pages.
