She was in one of the platoons who saw a lot of action in the mountains, and soon became very close with another boy there who wasn't in very good shape, and she helped him train and gave him half of her food and rations. They soon started dating and formed a relationship, but then the sickness spread through their troops...
(view spoiler)

I loved their uniforms. They wore the typical military jacket, but instead of pants, they wore long skirts with tights and a petticoat underneath that they could easily move around in. They also wore boots, and many women cut their hair or wore it up in braids.

But, in my opinion....it's not very good. I feel like the only reason why it won was because the main character has social anxiety, and that's it. The soundtrack wasn't very long, only about an hour, and many of the songs vastly overstayed their welcome by going on way too long, probably just to make the soundtrack last an hour.
Plus, they all sound way too....poppy. Like I could hear any of these songs on the radio today. And I feel like that's not a good thing for a musical that won the same award as things like Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera to do. Because those musicals, despite coming out in the 80's, are still timeless. People remember the songs from them because they're not pop-sounding songs. Even Hamilton, despite using rap-sounding songs, is still clever and interesting enough to last for years.
But I bet in ten years, people will forget about this musical. I don't care if it's got a socially-anxious main character, diversity shouldn't be the only reason why a musical wins. It's a MUSICAL, therefore it's got to have some good, memorable songs in it.
Really the only song from it that I liked was Waving Through a Window, but I still don't think that's a good reason for me to like it. Since all the other best musicals have a bunch of songs I love, not just one. I feel like this story and soundtrack would've been a lot better as a movie, not a play.
And now I await the angry comments from people saying 'i have no heart' or 'i just don't get it' or whatever.

I feel like a lot of movies and books are now COughDystopianYACough

Yeah

I'm thinking about trying again tomorrow or Wednesday.

Rgeardless i'm glad you're here. I'm sorry if that sounds selfish >.<

I haven't gone swimming all summer, and I don't want this to be my first summer where I don't go swimming. I'm worried I'll forget how to swim if I don't go.

WHat do you mean you feel pressured?

I hated that so much that whenever my stuff was taken off when I got out, I would jump right back into the pool with no protection, and then my teacher had to keep fishing me out since I'd thrash and kick around.
Thank you for bringing that up, not.
I just meant I feel really weird that I know how to swim and they don't.

SOrry >.< I didn't know that.
Ohh that makes sense

Although if GoodReads remains dead for the next few hours like it was over the weekend, then I'll just leave the library and go swimming.

I also really can't stand it when people see abusive relationships as no big deal, or even worse, actually have ships in fandoms that are super abusive. I can't ship abusive ships. I can't read about fictional abusive relationships at all.
I want to say I'm triggered by them, but that's not really the correct word. I'm more...sickened by how people are treating them nowadays.
Even just typing all of this out is making me feel sick.
I'm also sick of people telling me that I can't be 'offended' or 'triggered' by abusive relationships since I have never truly experienced one. Like, what?????? I was IN an abusive relationship with my ex-boyfriend. He didn't rape me, he didn't hit me, he didn't do any of that. But that doesn't mean he wasn't abusive. I can't even talk about some of the things he made me do or say, they make me ill.
So anybody who still wants to think this way or say I have no experience with this needs to rot in a ditch for all eternity.
