I randomly remembered that my grandpa likes to call my state ‘the middle finger of the south’ and I hate how right he is about that lol
I wonder if the guy who made the books Material World and Hungry Planet will make a new one for the new decade, as those were released to show different families around the world at the start of each decade by showing their material goods and food eaten in a week respectively. I think this decade is ripe for a new one and it should be called Charged Earth or something similar and has families from all around the world show off all electronics they own and what they do on them and their estimated screentimes. I think that could be interesting because a lot of people assume technology as in leisure activities are mainly for the wealthy but it’s the opposite; like here in America more poor families have a bunch of stuff like phones and tablets and computers because they can never afford to go anywhere or do anything while wealthy families rarely use electronics because they do have the money. I think the same can be said over the fact the world seems to echo that pattern; I once read about a woman in Ethiopia who had tablets for all of her kids and a nice TV and everything was solar-powered but they still had lots of issues in the family typical of third-world countries. Countries like Moldova are said to be the poorest in their entire continent yet cell and Internet service ranks high as the best and fastest out of everything else. And why? Hence I think it’d be an interesting study; every family would likely have quite a lot of modern technology yet still clearly not living in the best conditions. It’d be a bit of a gut-punch to show so much equality yet so much differences all at once
It’s honestly quite fascinating to me that even really poor people still have access to some form of technology yet still have trouble getting necessities like food or medicine. Maybe we really are living in a dystopian novel of some kind
I told Mom the other day for like the third time that I really want to reread Harry Potter again because I’m way older now and want to read the series with fresh new eyes and see what holds up still and what doesn’t but I can never do it because I know for a fact that Draco will end up becoming my favourite character in it because he’s everything I like in a male character and at the time I didn’t think anything of him and I’d like that to stay the same because I’m not ready to admit that truth to myself yet
Meanwhile my mom is still trying to get me to read more than the first twoI don';t know why I don't. I mean, I don't dislike the series.

Whenever I want to amuse my mom I just remind her of a conversation I saw on Twitter I think once where two people were having an argument over this one person’s Witcher OC because she gave them high heels and said she wanted to be accurate to the time and the other person told her if she wanted to actually be accurate she’d give high heels to a male OC and not a female because high heels were traditionally worn by men and if the show was accurate Geralt would be wearing them and not the girls and I chimed into the discussion just to say that yes men did wear high heels however if The Witcher was truly historically accurate, they wouldn’t give Geralt high heels because he’s a warrior and male warriors didn’t wear high heels for obvious reasons, if any man in The Witcher is going to be wearing heels it’s going to be the darn bard Dandelion because the men who wore high heels were either nobles or ‘artistic’ men who wouldn’t have to be much on their feet and the conversation died right then and there because nobody could refute me lol
I read an article I found interesting about how a lot of butch lesbians feel like they don't have the best representation or any representation at all so they usually just say their favourite male fictional characters are butch lesbians 'in disguise' in relationships with feminine lesbians. I already knew this, but I found that mindset behind it quite interesting because in my experience at least, when it comes to lesbian content made by lesbians, butch lesbians are the most represented and 'lipstick' lesbians such as myself aren't even talked about or thought of as being lesbians. Thus we get two butch lesbians in a relationship or a butch with a more androgynous girl. Don't get me wrong, I know that's the case for a lot of lesbians, I'm just saying that it's interesting to me that lesbian works of media usually give girly lesbians the short end of the stick. It makes me wonder if there's some sort of jealousy there, like girly lesbians can 'pass' easier or general resentment for women being girly in general again
Mom said Disney said they're making a movie based on the Hamilton musical and I was happy because now Mom will finally get to hear the music from it if they're making it be a musical, but I also think it's kinda a strange musical to make a Disney adaptation of because for starters the original Broadway album has a parental advisory sticker on it so I'm worried Disney is going to try and sanitize it because it's not exactly the most kid-friendly of stories and the songs have really explicit lyrics at times

Maybe they will with this *Le shrug* I can't imagine they would put the actual Disney logo on it or there'd be a lot of outrage over the content
Well it's still too early to say for sure as it's not coming out until July. Still that was always my initial concern for a while ever since Disney first announced they'd be doing it
I hate how my brothers always have to shame me whenever I decide to try eating something Mom's made because I want to gradually eat more stuff and they only get upset because it means there's less for them, like I'm so sorry I need food too? I was here way before you two and besides it's usually small side dishes I like and not the main thing anyway so I don't see why it matters. Mom made taquitos for dinner and I actually like those and every single time she makes them, tonight being no exception, my baby brother is always like 'awww do you have to eat these too? do you even like these? can't you eat something else? can't I have yours?'

No reference :P Cicadas emerge every 17 years and the last time they did, I was in middle school. So not even a decade.
I thought they came out every summer, I hear them constantly here when it’s summer
Maybe it's a different species? There was one in the early 2010s that was out for a few weeks before disappearing and I've never seen or heard them since

My mom told me a story from when she went to solo and ensemble as a junior and her memory driving back from it with a guy in her class she found super cute and it made me jealous as I realized Mom had way more fun in her high school years than I ever did in mine
Solo and ensemble?
A music contest held every year where you sign up as either a solo act or an ensemble act. It's every music student's pride and joy but due to a misunderstanding I kinda have...bad memories about mine

It wasn't anything super traumatic, just that my freshmen year my teacher heavily encouraged for me to do it and even paid for my entry. I was going to be doing a solo. I didn't have a ride so I asked my ex-best friend at the time but I unknowingly had the wrong email and I only learned when she emailed me the next day after solo and ensemble was over. My teacher was extremely upset at my 'irresponsibility' and never paid for me to do it again nor even brought the idea up. It still kinda stings even though nobody was really at fault it was just a unfortunate stroke of bad luck
Mom asked to do a French braid in my hair and that's how I knew she's officially run out of things to do; she only does specific hairstyles when I ask her to and even then she vastly hates doing French braids purely because she doesn't know how; I asked her for a long time and stopped because she didn't know how
I genuinely can't remember if I ever said in here how my grandparents met. I asked my grandpa about it once because I was genuinely curious and didn't know and since I already knew how my parents met it seemed fitting. According to Grandpa he was a computer programmer who was also often called in to help fix people's TVs and computers and stuff of that nature. Once he got a call from a guy to repair his TV. He was one of those guys who sponsored that dating program thing people did back then where single people would record a tape of themselves talking about their interests and what they looked for in a partner. As payment the guy told my grandpa he could watch the tapes and pick any of the girls shown that he wanted. My grandpa obviously agreed and fixed the TV and started watching the tapes; the very first one he saw was of my grandma. The second he saw her he told the guy that was the girl he wanted to date, and the guy was like: "Are you sure? You literally just watched only one tape, why don't you watch more to be sure?" And Grandpa was like: "No, I'm positive, she's the one for me," I have no idea why but that story is really sweet to me even if it is pretty nerdy
I told Mom that it's a dream of mine to basically get a house of my own and then put one of those elaborate fandom paintings in my living room like over my couch or something. There's always a bunch of artworks in fandoms that are extremely epic in their detail size and scale and look like famous works of art in their own right even though they're just fandom pieces but that's the joke; I want to get one of those, frame it, then have people come over and think it's some forgotten relic from like the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and worth a lot of money and not some random piece of fanart I got off Google Images and put in a frame lol
I knew I wouldn't be able to relate anymore to other people my age the day someone developed a crush on me and asked me out several times
How so?
Because everyone I know laments how they’re not attractive or appealing enough for anyone else to develop a crush on and I somehow got that opportunity
It always bothers me when people say there can’t be a retelling of Mulan or similar stories with a white girl. Not because I think they’re getting upset over nothing but because they treat it like Mulan is the only female warrior to dress up as a man and fight for her nation when I’m fairly positive every culture has their own take on such a story with real women who did that. Taking the actual word-for-word synopsis of Mulan and making that about white people is bad, however I think it’s just as bad to act like that’s the only story of its type and every time someone writes a story like that with a white woman people automatically say they’re being racist. Like my God do they not teach children about Joan of Arc anymore

There was also a countess who fought for her country in the Russian Empire in the 1850’s I think. She cut her hair and got a horse and is considered to be a national hero even today in Poland and Lithuania(because she was a Polish noblewoman but was born in Vilnius and back then Poles Lithuanians and some Belarusians had parts of their nations in each other and they all considered themselves to be cut from the same cloth so nowadays it’s often a headache trying to figure out if the self-titled Polish-Lithuanians were indeed both, just Polish, just Lithuanian, just Belarusian, or all three)

Trying to get used to the new Chromebook and it's hard. Everything is so big and bulky
I randomly remembered someone who reviewed that one episode of Hey Arnold where Helga has to get counseling and at first she tries to hide it because she doesn't want people to think she's crazy and one of her friends tries to cheer her up about it saying plenty of people get counseling even for smaller issues they might have and it made me remember when I had to get counseling in fourth grade due to how bad my anger issues were and at the time my first immediate thought was what my classmates would think about me; the school made it an open secret about what I was doing and my classmates had witnessed a vast majority of my meltdowns so I was worried that they'd all think I was crazy like genuinely crazy. I didn't really have anyone to make me feel better about it and what reassured me was when I walked back into my class after my first therapy session, expecting everyone to notice but despite coming in late nobody even batted an eye aside from the teacher who had to give me my assignment. It made me realize that nobody really cared what I was doing and it made me feel so much better about my sessions that nobody would judge me for them because they were an important stepping stone in learning to control my temper as a kid looking back

You don’t run in the same circles as me :PI’m not hating on their music obviously I like those artists I just hate the gatekeeping and ‘you can’t like their music or relate to it because you’re super bubbly and pink!’ Like you don’t know my life. This artist might be ‘okay’ for me to admit liking in public since their aesthetic is pink kawaii sparkles and cheerful positivity and technology but they also do LGBT stuff so maybe not because as we all know if you’re super pink and girly you’re obviously straight
When you said "aesthetic-y artist " I thought you meant actual artist, not music :P
