Why is it so hard for people to just like...follow rules?? Like there's a reason that they're in place? And if wanting to follow them makes me a terrible person than so be it

I was watching a YouTube video earlier about YA dystopians and when it showed a map of Panem Mom looked over and asked if that was from the Hunger Games and I’ve never been so proud of her I even said the Districts were placed wrongly and she agreed and started pointing out where they were all meant to go

She’s seen the movies and read the first book but she’s not a huge fan of them lol I didn’t get a chance to finish it yet but it seemed like he was just criticizing how bare-bones YA dystopia is and how it doesn’t understand how to make an engaging and thought-provoking commentary on society, they just want to be like ‘evil government bad’
I mean...it does feel that way compared to older dystopia.
He gave a list of the books he’s going to mention in the video and I’ve read almost all of them for some reason and I feel like there’s a huge difference between an actual dystopia and ‘a regime that arises after some form of natural disaster’ like he was going to talk about the Wither trilogy. From what I remember the government isn’t mentioned very much aside from the rule men have to have multiple wives to procreate faster since due to medical experimentation to discover cures for stuff like cancer it’s introduced a side effect into future humans where both men and women die at the age of twenty-five. That book was way more about the main character wanting to find her brother and escape the house of her husband and it talked more about how most humans over the years had died due to the experimentation and severe weather outbreaks. Nothing about a dystopia really

Someone said if you want kids to genuinely be well-behaved and get good grades instead of being super strict and monopolize their time and attention constantly just let them do whatever they want like how their parents let them go to sleep at four in the morning and eat chicken nuggets for breakfast and watch R-rated movies at the age of ten and they made Student Council, honor roll, never did drugs or drank or even went to many parties growing up and I felt called out because Mom also let me do whatever I wanted and I turned into a good student and great law-abiding citizen

I told Mom that someone suggested to me that I should take up knitting or crocheting and that I don’t know how expecting her to say it was a bad idea or not something I’d be good at but instead she said there’s a ton of YouTube videos I could learn from which would make better teachers than her and when I’m ready she’ll give me a yarn that she hates and suggested I start with a washcloth
