Don't read this if you're going to judge me or call me disgusting or whatever.
(view spoiler)[ I have trouble with seeing a bunch of things, especially small things, all in a giant clump. Even if it's food. I can't look at stuff like white rice without feeling absolutely disgusted. Or seeds or anything like that.

When I was in ninth grade, my gym class had a swimming unit, and you better believed I loved it. I was pretty much the only person who was excited to change into a swimsuit every day and learn all kinds of new ways to swim. It was in February too, so it was like having summer in the middle of winter.

When I came back from Spring Break, I was coated in itchy red dots everywhere aside from my face. I went to the nurse and she said it was poison ivy and gave me some anti-itch cream to take the edge off, and I believed her.

However, a few weeks later, it didn't go away, when poison ivy would've. I went back to the nurse for more cream, but she decided I didn't have poison ivy-I had something worse and sent me home. I was away from school for a week and even missed a party since I was deemed a 'public health issue', and I finally found out what I had-scabies.

Nothing would be as embarrassing as that moment, not even what happened my sophomore year.

It didn't even seem real, it didn't seem like something I could get in this day or age. It sounded like something some poor person in the Victorian Era would get from the slums.

Scabies are little tiny bugs that burrow into your skin, covering it with itchy red bumps. I would often have nightmares afterwards of all these little tiny bugs, covering my skin, and covering my organs. I would wake up clawing at my throat sometimes, having a nightmare that they were inside my throat, crawling around.

Everything I touched in my room was disinfected with a super strong chemical-EVERYTHING. My clothes, my sheets, pillows, blankets, mattress, my stuffed animals, my jewelry, and finally myself, I was given a super strong cream all over my body to kill the scabies, and it BURNED. I couldn't touch the cream, and I had trouble sleeping that night from how much it burned.

I went back to school the next day, and that weekend my family went out on a picnic at a nearby playground.

I never told anyone aside from my friends about what happened or where I went; I told everyone else that I was simply sick.

I later found out scabies are EXTREMELY contagious, and are water-borne. They're spread in water sources, like swimming pools. Doesn't take a genius to figure out where I probably got mine from.

To this day 'm still embarrassed and disgusted by that. I don't swim as much as I used to, terrified I'll get scabies again. This was easily one of the worst experiences of my life, and my sophomore experience with bugs was probably a close second. (hide spoiler)]

I don't know, some people might think I'm making a big deal out of nothing and it's not like I was raped or anything.

It was still a traumatic experience for me though and I legitimately feel really dirty from it. And it's not fair that I was the only kid in that unit who seemingly got sick.

If they fuss at you for that they're stupid. You were in pain for weeks and it traumatized you. Heck, I was traumatized after being stung by ONE wasp. I can't imagine what your experience was like.

They do hurt, they itch like crazy and you can't make it stop, no matter how much you scratch and scratch. And the medicine they put on me to kill them all literally burned like a fire.

This plus my experience in tenth grade was enough to make me extremely obsessed with personal cleanliness and to avoid being in a large group of unfamiliar people.
