Looks like I finally got my achievement in Shadowverse. That's good
Mom and I have been watching Violet Evergarden for the past few days because I finally just decided to watch it with her and I was excited about finally finishing it tonight but she said she doesn’t want to watch anymore because the ending is pretty boring and anticlimactic in her opinion and I’m just better off not watching it and of course I got annoyed and told her it doesn’t matter how boring the ending is, I still want to finish it and she said I could just finish it on my own then The nerve. I watch this anime with her that she’s been trying to make me watch for the past year and when I finally sit down and watch it with her she has the gall to say we won’t finish it because she finds the ending boring?
My baby brother was complaining about how Infinity War doesn’t make sense and I told him that I think you have to watch the others for context and he announced super loudly that he doesn’t care about the others and then goes right back to complaining about being confused
Mom was talking about how she thinks Netflix anime is better because they pick lesser-known voice actors than other companies do and she appreciates not recognizing voices for once, and I told her they actually pick a lot of famous voice actors and that just because she doesn't recognize them doesn't mean anything. She then said that even if they do hire famous ones they're mainly confined to minor roles while the major roles are unknown people, and I told her Yuki Kaji literally voices the main character in B: The Beginning and she said the character barely talks so that doesn't count, and I told her it did count because they were still credited
I told Mom that Bloodivores is starting to get good and she looked at me like I was crazy lol

I finally got a rank in the arena on Shadowverse and am almost onto the next rank already! Even though I'm happy about it at the same time I wonder if it should even count because the partners I fought against all forfeited when they felt the match wasn't in their favor anymore, so I don't really feel like I 'earned' it unlike if I had beaten them fairly Funnily enough they were both the same class with the same character and near-identical deck, but they had different usernames and were from different nations(one was from Japan and the other didn't list their nation)
Someone said they'd think Diabolik Lovers would be better and sexier if it was one boy with six sisters and for some reason that comment rubs me the wrong way. I'm clearly in the minority here but I don't think I would like it any better if it was that way, in fact I think I'd either not pay it attention or very strongly dislike it. Diabolik Lovers works because it's a parody of tropes usually found in otome games. They take common types and make them all yanderes and make the actual content dark, gruesome, and sexual. They're not the first otome to be dark but I think they go the furthest with their content. That's what makes it unique.
If it were genderswapped, it would be like any other harem dating simulator out there, except with a weak guy being tied up by vampire girls. Which....already exists. As several games. But can you name an otome game exactly like Diabolik Lovers?
Plus the types wouldn't be as interesting to me. They'd just be yandere girls and that's been done to death. Like I'd probably hate Kanato if he were a girl. As he is, he's a yandere little brother and he was when I first realized I really like that idea. But as a girl, she'd just be the yandere little sister. Yawn yawn, been there done that
I'm happy Diabolik Lovers pushed the envelope and decided to be different from other otome and make a name for itself. I'm glad it's not like every other dating simulator out there. Switching the genders would ruin everything it set out to do and I suppose that's why it makes me so upset.
I've sene people complain about games/shows that subvert tropes and want it to be "fixed" and I'm like "...you do realize that kind of defeats the whole purpose of the work in the first place, right?"
Exactly my point with this I mean, even the games aren't perfect. They tend to handwave a lot of logical errors away and I feel like some of the scenes are overkill or pointless, like the one where Yui gets raped by animals or the one where she's forced to burn a house down, but overall I think they're a solid series

Speaking of my mom we watched that Demon Skayer anime last night on a whim and she was actually really loving it, much to my surprise. She's not a fan of shounens but she really loves this one because of the mature plotline and animation style. So it looks like we're watching something new haha She became intrigued when I told her it was a popular topic of conversation in my FaceBook anime group and that people praised it for following the manga closely in art and story, and for being a very dark shounen

My mom and I also finished Violet Evergarden a few days ago. Yes I finally convinced her to watch the ending with me. Unfortunately since we started it together it is ineligible for my resolution list, but I still wanted to say something about it
Mom was trying to act like she was all 'woke' last night talking about the terrible societial and cultural and working pressures placed on people there where people like animators don't get paid at all and are practically forced to work themselves to the bone while the CEOs of their companies profit off of everything, and how a lot of voice actors and 'idols' can get groped and are encouraged to not speak out about it but it might ruin their careers, and the fact that half of the population wants to shut themselves up in their home and not contribute means she believes there is something extremely toxic about their society. And I got annoyed with her and was like: "So what? Are you just never going to watch anime ever again? Is that what you're trying to say?" And she said that wasn't it, but she wants to tell as many people as possible in the hopes of getting something fixed and I told her if it hasn't gotten better in this amount of time, it likely won't get better as most people here in America simply don't care and people in Japan probably care but don't know what they're supposed to do
So she should stop acting 'woke' just because she read a few articles about something. If she truly cared and wanted to make a difference, she'd look into ways to actually help these people instead of just spreading it around

Because somebody in the neighborhood was running around shooting things with a gun. I guess he just wanted to cause a disturbance, I think they caught him and arrested him. But he shot a lot of people’s houses and he shot our front door several times so the police had to come and make sure we were okay and collect evidence

For some reason I have a huge urge to write one of those wish fanfics for Black Butler. Basically what happens in them is that a character makes a wish on something that a major event or character in their story never happened/existed and when they wake up the whole world has changed. I actually really like them but I can’t find any for Black Butler so I wanted to write one. Though I’m not sure where I’ll actually go with it. Right now all I know is:
-Ciel’s parents and brother are still alive(that was the wish)
-Ciel’s brother is engaged to Elizabeth but he is engaged to Sieglinde
-Ciel attends Weston and is best friends with McMillian and Harcourt
-Sieglinde is still disabled but she was born that way
-She is the daughter of Diederich and one of those soldier ladies
So far that’s all I have. I don’t know what I’m going to do about where Sebastian fits into all of this because it’s not Black Butler without him(literally)
Also not sure what the story should actually be about...or how it should end lol

I think there should be more media about creepy carnivals/circuses/theme parks for teens and adults. I feel like with that age demographic in mind they could do more stuff with the idea. A lot of people that age don’t scare easily and usually don’t go to places like that but I feel like there’s still potentional with the idea

Annnnnnnd the Helix Waltz Wiki now lists Hugh as being transgendered. That literally makes me so upset. Something like that does not belong on the Wiki unless it is canon that they are transgendered. And it is not canon that Hugh is transgendered. If she is anything she is a crossdressing tomboy Her name is Hugh because it's a transliteration of her Japanese name, 'Shuu' from the card game. In the card game, she is the dominate, b*tchy, princess-type of character. She is obviously a girl too, she wears a ball gown and there's a scene where the main character accidentally falls and looks under her skirt and comments: "I've heard the rumors about you, but wow, you are definitely a girl," (She punches him)
In Helix Waltz, she is a crossdresser because she wants to be a knight and is her family's heir because her older brother is incompetent. Her cousin is trained to be a knight too but because she's a girl, she is only a waitress. But Hugh wants to be an actual knight but only men can be actual knights. She also despises getting married and it's a major plot point in her route that her parents are hoping she'll get married and that you'll teach her how to be 'charming and graceful' There are so many scenes in the game that flat-out say she is a girl
Now as for Hugh herself...she never actually says she is a guy!!! Your character just makes that assumption based on her appearance. Everyone else like her family calls her a girl, and she seems more embarrassed than mad. If you finish her route, she actually speaks about how she longs to wear a dress and look all girly and beautiful for you before getting embarrassed.
It is true the game treats her as a boy, like the options say 'talk to HIM' 'dance with HIM' etc. She is one of the only girls you can dance with and when you do, she treats you like the other guys do. The girls when you dance with them act like you're hanging out as best friends, while the guys flirt with you. Hugh is the stereotypical 'white knight' that is perfect and courageous and whatnot. Plus, her gender is supposed to be a secret. It's like how in Danganronpa, Chihiro is obviously a boy, but the game treats him as a girl until the secret is revealed because it's a major spoiler. Same with Hugh.
There's also the fact that even though she's crossdressing, she is extremely girly. And she doesn't even really bother to hide her breasts as a boy. In the Sound of Music event, her breasts look ready to pop out of her shirt. If she were trans, don't you think she'd try binding them?
Mom and I were having a discussion last night about 'lesbian erasure' which is a phenomenon I talked about in my journal before where historians automatically assume all female crossdressers, especially if they were romantically interested in other women, were transgendered. Hugh reminds me so hugely of that, since she too is a crossdressing lesbian that is obviously designed to just be a tomboy that everyone automatically assumes in transgendered.
So go on ahead, come at me and call me transphobic. I'm waiting for you
