~Look Down, You're Talking to Your Highness~[R]
You can be whichever you want.
I want to be the younger brother since I'm good at playing little boys and need more male characters, but if you want me to be the older sister then I can do that too.
I personally don't care. Also, I read about Taiwanese weddings....and oh boy my guy has his work cut out for him :P They're expensive, and huge! But the lucky bride gets treated like a princess.
Well there's a lot of planning involved for the guy. They need to spend a lot of money on EVERYTHING. They have to book a nice restaurant to hold the wedding in, preferably a place with sea-food. Sea food is really expensive in Taiwan, so if the groom can afford it for the guests then it's seen as a good thing. He must get a special type of Taiwanese money and give it to his in-laws and guests to give them luck. Giving them a lot is considered good luck, it represents how their daughter is being married off and they need compensation since she can't take care of them when they're older. The guests are expected to give the groom some too, but it all must be paid back to them; it's considered rude not to. And the more money your in-laws give you, the more you gotta pay back.
The weddings usually start about forty minutes after their scheduled time; since the guests like to take their time in getting ready. The guests love to drink alcohol, whisky and red wine especially. American wine is popular in Taiwan.
A photographer is usually hired to take photos and make a movie, since normally you don't have enough time to do that yourself.
You also have to get a special wedding cookie to give as a favor to all the guests. You usually have to get a few friends to help the guests sign in and whatnot.
The groom usually wears an expensive tuxedo that's black and white, and the bride wears three different dresses: first she gets walked down the aisle in a giant white wedding gown that looks like our wedding gowns. The groom walks with her slowly down the aisle. After the vows are said, then the bride changes into a colorful party dress and the couple kiss and the speeches are said. After THAT, then the bride puts on a traditional Chinese dress and then she's free to dance with you, and the couple toasts to their future with red wine.
After that part ends, the photos of the groom and bride are taken, then the favors are passed out. Then the wedding is over.
Luckily, Taiwanese girls are encouraged to marry white men, so perhaps your character's family will be happy with the match!
Indeed. But if my character does it correctly, then he'll have a lucky and happy bride and lots of satisfied in-laws!
She'd be happy with just being married and serving her family but this works :pDid you learn anything about Asian marriages in general? Like parts that they have in common with other nations?

Well East Asian weddings, like Japanese/Chinese/Taiwanese/Vietnamese/Korean weddings have lots of things in common, like some of the traditions, the bridal dress, the amount of guests, etc. Like in China, South Korea, Vietnam, and even India, it's traditional for a bride to wear a red wedding dress since red is lucky in those nations.
Well technically the friends of the bride and groom would come, as well as family friends. The weddings are intended to be huge in Taiwan, with the largest having as many as eighty guests.
Ah. But I meant like could other characters shown up? Do they need to know the bride and groom, or people the bride and groom are close to?
They would at least need to know people the bride and groom are close to. Like if I was having this wedding, then the friend of one of my cousins could come, because they're a family friend despite me not knowing them.
She's going to live in the town. I don't think people who go to the school are allowed to move into the town. SO if she always lived there, obviously she can't be from the real world.

Well like....she's not actually from the nation of Taiwan but her family is from a nation similar to it? Like how in fantasy novels they have fake nations inspired by real-world countries. I mean, Val La Jon itself reminds me of France for whatever reason.
That's exActly what I sas thinking of, actually :DBut I dont know if people can just show up. Should we get Sera here, or go to my journal or UU chat?
I've had some characters just randomly show up, I think....but if you really wanna ask Sera about it we can, but she seems busy.
I'm wanting to make a character who'll live in the town, but we can't figure out if regular people can just show up from other worlds and live there, or if they have to be born there.
Hunter wants to make a character whose family comes from a country modeled after Taiwan and he's not sure how they would get to VallaJon.
