I remember my ex-boyfriend used to be really judgemental of other guys who were girly or just liked things that were considered to be 'girly', like when I told him my middle brother liked shows like Big Time Rush and iCarly, my ex said: "But aren't those girl shows? Why is your brother watching them if he's a boy?" And at times I just really wanted to grab my ex and tell him 'dude you were wearing a literal honest-to-goodness skirt when we first met and you want to judge other guys' masculinity?!'
It should be illegal for Google to change its search layout/appearance without consulting me first. I was the only person who didn't mind the fact you bought YouTube, give me some perks here!

I'm in the group that sees BTR as more pandering to teenage girls ((not that I care)), but I LOVE iCarly. Just because the main character is a girl doesn't mean it's a "girl show". Who decides that anyway??

Eh, my boyfriend had a really weird idea of masculinity. It got really annoying to hear him complain about other guys doing stuff like that when the whole reason we became friends was because he was into really girly anime. And by girly, I mean pastel-pink, vomit sparkles/rainbows/puppies in your face it was so girly. It would make your boobs bigger from all the estrogen in it. And there's nothing wrong with him liking stuff like that, but I disliked how he looked down on other guys for liking things like that. My ex said the whole reason why he dressed like a girl in the first place was because he was so sick of other people telling him boys couldn't like the girly stuff he did, and then he turned right around and started doing the same thing to other guys.
I feel the same way you do about this. Either be supportive of others or stop doing it yourself!
He always wanted to be manly and maybe that's why he did it. He loved baseball and admired famous baseball players; playing the sport himself and having dreams of become really athletic and fit. He hated how scrawny and weak he was and believed he wouldn't be a good boyfriend if he didn't develop a more muscular body. He worked out a lot when we both entered high school as part of his whole 'become a man' goal and well we all know how that ended.

I really want one that's pink or girly and seems 'mysterious' in a way since that's how I'd describe my current picture and I think it really fits the whole aesthetic I've built for myself on that site. Of course, that's not necessary.

Am I the only one who remembers how at the gaming store they'd let you rent games for whatever console you owned? It was like renting a book at the library where you'd have it for a week or two and then you'd have to return it to the store for the next person. If I was really good at school Dad would go out and get me a few for my DS. It was kinda awkward because a lot of times you'd get a game that had someone else's progress on it and I'd always feel bad about erasing it especially because a lot of times they had unlocked everything and had finished the game. I don't know if they do that anymore or not, but it brings me back good memories of when I was younger.
At Blockbuster? yes. other places? no.
I think Dad got mine at like GameStop or someplace similar.
But whatever, I'm also probably the only kid who's ever gone to an intermediate school lol

It's like a middle school but only for fifth and sixth graders. As my school handbook put it: "Adolescence is a very important time for your child, both physically and mentally. Around the ages of ten, eleven, and twelve, they need more personal attention and specialized learning tools than children younger than them. DILC(the school's initials) was created to cater specifically to this stage in your child's development." Etc. etc. etc. Looking back, it was a pretty strange school. Like breakfast was served to us in crates and we watched TV in our classes as we ate. We had booths in our cafeteria that students could sit at under certain circumstances. One of our freaking units in gym was playing Dance dance Revolution and the grade/class who got the highest score got a prize!
I'm not sure, but I don't think other schools operate like that unless they are highly specialized.
I've literally never heard of thatMy middle school sure didnt operate like that. All they cared about was our test grades and sports. Same with high school.

It also wasn't a middle school lol Maybe it also had to do with the location? That school was in Indianapolis so maybe all schools in the big city are like that.
It doesn't matter though since I literally almost killed myself while going there, so.
Oh yeah, and we also got to leave at one PM on Mondays and two PM Tuesday-Friday, and our schedule was pretty laid-back on Mondays because we didn't have as much time.
And we had our 'homeroom' teacher who also taught us English and geography, and then we'd switch to the class next to us for science/math. We had to go to homeroom in the morning and then switch for science/math. we ate lunch pretty early and then we'd have recess. And then we had whatever elective we picked for that year. At the end of each month, if we received good behavior reports, we would all get to watch a movie in class with snacks and drinks. And then there was Field Day at the end of the year, which was always this massive party with stuff like dunk tanks and DJs.

Someone wrote this one fanfic and I've only one read chapter of it thus far but that first chapter bothered me a whole bunch so guess what I'm going to complain about it here in my journal. The whole premise of the fanfic was showing the plot of the series through one of the character's minds and I love that idea and I liked the character they picked too. The problem is....
They made the character's thought be really snobby, stuck-up, unconcerned, and perverted. And that realllly doesn't fit this character, who literally watches mosquitoes drink their blood because they're too nice to swat at them.
It's really hard for me to talk about it though without sounding like a huge hypocrite because I love taking really sweet and kind characters in canon and rewriting from their perspective, giving them a really cold and perverted mind. I could say it doesn't fit this character, but does it really fit the characters I try to do it to?
I suppose the point I'll say is this. I don't think it fits this character because of their backstory and how they present themselves. They have a major complex and hate themselves for that complex. I cannot see them looking at their other friends and saying stuff like 'this chick is only good for sucking dick' or 'we don't want any fucking high-school dropouts here like that guy' because they have been bullied in a similar way for most of their lives.
When I make sweet characters think stuff like that, they are characters who in canon have already been shown to have some kind of darker side due to past trauma they've suffered. Therefore, it wouldn't be too out-of-place for them to harbor bad thoughts about their friends. And even in the case of the extreme cinnamon roll, if they have those thoughts, they try to purge themselves of them, saying it's not healthy or right to have such thoughts. I would accept this character being a secret perverted snob more if his kinder side showed up and tried to tell him stuff like 'we'll all just try to get along, after all, everyone here seems nice! I shouldn't try to judge so quickly!' or stuff like that.
But so far in this fic, that hasn't happened. I really like the character and this fic obviously won't ruin them for me, but it's really distracting to have a really passive and awkward character in the actual canon be turned into a cold-hearted pervert, albeit secretly. It just doesn't sit right with me if they're not going to at least make the character have good thoughts too to try and rid themselves of thinking such things. This character doesn't have to be sunshine and lollipops all the time, in fact, they're not in the actual canon, but going this far in portraying them seems really strange and too over-the-top for me.
I don't know, does that make sense? Probably not because I feel really physically unwell right now and I'm likely just rambling, and I don't really want to provide actual examples since I don't think most of the people reading this would even get what I was referring to. I'll probably fix this when I'm more clear-headed, the key word being 'probably'.

I'm kinda jealous of how artists can draw warm-up pieces to get themselves ready and focus on the main thing they want to draw, but authors can't write a warm-up story or whatever to get themselves ready to focus on their main project. Like if you want to write, you just have to just jump right into it and hope for the best, no matter what. I don't know, maybe it's just me that feels that way.
I'm starting to feel down again and I'm not really sure if I can fully explain why...and even if I could, there's the chance I'm just overreacting and trying to make a big deal out of something really minor.
I just want you all to know that when I was in eleventh grade we read The Great Gatsby in my English class and one of our assignments was to find a song that fit a character in the book and why we picked that song and the song I picked was Jealous by Nick Jonas for Gatsby
One thing I learned from 11th grade English is classic American novel symbolism represents God, Death or the American Dream. Or a combination
I learned that my own writing would be more accurately be classified as 'realism' because of the topics I cover; I write them as if they're from the Romantic period but in reality what sets a novel apart from being a 'Romantic' or a 'Realistic' novel are its themes and topics and thus my novels are realism novels but written as if they're romantic. I did a lot of thinking back then lol
That's something that'd be cool to discuss
We had huge units over the two differences. I find it ironic that my style resembles realism because that started back in the late 1910's-early 1920's and I'm not a big fan of classics from that era.
