I almost forgot to put a bra on today
Mom's making cornbread and chicken for dinner. I wonder if she's going to save me any cornbread? Yesterday she saved me rolls from last night's dinner and I was surprised by that especially considering we were still fighting and everything.

I don't think they were expecting people to be outside walking. I am not joking when I say I was one of the only people outside today. The only other people I saw were two owners of these restaurants that are next to each other talking and they normally have an outside eating area and one of the owners was talking about how just this morning it was super sunshiney and warm and nice and how his customers were outside eating when all of a sudden a huge gust of wind blew through and almost snapped this big tree in front of his place and he ended up having to move all of the customers inside and since he had lost power shortly after that he was thinking of just closing for the day.
They also probably found it pointless seeing as how this never happens. We get lots of severe storms, but none of them have knocked the power out this badly. I mean, sure, some houses and stores losing power? That's expected. But I have never seen stoplights and things like that broken too. And this was just from wind, it wasn't from like a tornado or something.
It looks like everyone else's GoodReads broke too.
So this morning I got in trouble with Mom because I screamed really loudly: "PULL OVER DONOVAN, THERE'S A POOR PERSON I WANNA THROW MY LATTE AT!! 1% REPRESENT!!!" Lol
Mom is wanting to do another art swap with me because she's drawing me something she'd normally never draw in a million years, but in return, I have to write a fanfic for her of this one anime character that literally nobody ever thinks about and is constantly snubbed by their actual show but Mom is obsessed with them for some reason and I literally have no idea about what to write about. I mean, the last time she did it, I actually like Austria and Prussia from Hetalia. And I was able to write about them in a historical context and I had a lot of fun researching that war for my fanfic. But I can't really do that with this character. I don't hate them, mind you, I just literally never think about them because they're not in the series very much. Mom hasn't been very helpful aside from giving me the idea of the character coming across a girl dying from tuberculosis or cholera and the character turning her into a vampire and one of their servants as a result since the series says this character has more servants than anyone else.
But I don't know...I'm not sure I'll be able to write the character properly and it doesn't help that we don't know very much about them in the series since obviously they're not a main character.
And I'm sure you guys can understand my hesitance since I'm afraid Mom is going to pull the same trick she did before where I work my absolute butt off trying to write a really amazing fanfic about a character I don't really care very much about and then have her freaking snub me and then I'm stuck with something nobody else will really read and something I'm not very happy with. She insists she won't but I don't really trust her word.
I just don't know....I really want my picture but I also don't want to write a fanfic for a character we barely know anything about simply because there is literally nothing to write about concerning them.

Probably when I broke my wrist/arm after falling down a flight of stairs. I still remember trying to put it in my pocket and pulling it out but it as literally so painful. I couldn't move it. It felt like a huge jolt of pain, like a really sharp pain that traveled through my body like lighting.

I used to write letters all of the time to my dad's side of the family. Looking back on it, it was likely more 'etiquette' training because I was drilled on how to write and the proper etiquette for writing letters-yes, it does exist-but I genuinely had fun writing letters and getting ones back in return. My dad's mom saved all of my letters though she lost almost all of them in Hurricane Katrina. She only has two left. I would love to start writing letters for someone again though.

Part 1 because the original was too long Writer Ask Game
1: What age-group do you write?
I write for the YA audience, but I don't really want to be limited to one age group because I feel like most age groups could enjoy my writing. I've noticed what categorizes a book as one age group as opposed to another is simply the age of the main character. Some of my books will likely be considered middle grade for that reason, and some others would be adult. But strictly speaking, I will specialize in YA.
2: What genre do you write?
I write mainly historical fiction, but I also have a few sci-fi, fantasy, and contemporary ideas.
3: Do you outline according to big ideas or small details?
A lot of my stories come to me as a single scene, not one big idea. I often write down that one scene and then form a story to go along with it. Like one sci-fi plot I have in mind originally started as a scene of a girl telling the main character her name was Ferrum and that it means something really beautiful on her planet and the main character replying in disgust that Ferrum on Earth means metal. I took that scene and created a bigger plot around it.
4: Which do you prefer--line-editing or plot-revisions?
Plot-revisions.
5: Do you write better with or without deadlines?
I write better with deadlines. Then I can schedule my time better, figure out how much I need to write each day, and plan my day around that.
6: What would be the biggest compliment you could hope to receive on your current WIP?
"What a beautiful and decadent writing style. Everything was dripping in lush detail and I never once for a second I had doubted I was anywhere else but Imperial Lithuania,"
7: How long is your current WIP?
Ninety pages long and I can't believe I actually wrote something that is ninety pages long!!!! And it's not even finished yet!!!!
8: What author would you be most excited to be compared to?
Ruta Sepetys because she is my writing idol. But at the same time, I wouldn't want to be compared to her since I want to develop my own writing style.
9: What do you struggle most with as a writer?
Trying to take things slowly and expanding on the story instead of rushing through the plot to get more exciting scenes. I need to take my time and let things between the characters, whether that be relationships or plot, develop naturally.
10: Do you brain-storm story ideas alone or with others?
I always have at least six or seven story ideas floating around in my head at any given time.
11: Do you base your characters off of real people?
Sometimes! A lot of my works are historical fiction so a lot of times real people make appearances; sometimes they're fictionalized and sometimes they're not. I also model my characters after some of my friends.
12: Is your writing space clean or cluttered?
It's clean currently.
13: Do you write character-driven or plot-driven stories?
A little bit of both? Like I'm annoyed by purely character-driven stories but I feel like a lot of what I write is more watching a character grow and develop than anything super plot-heavy....in fact the plot tends to just be watching that character on their journey.
14: Do you have a favorite writing-related quote?
Pretty much everything from Kurt Vonnengard's writing tips. But some of my personal favourites from that collection are:
"Make all of your characters want something, even if it is only a glass of water."
"Leave nothing unanswered. Make the answers so obvious that even if cockroaches ate the last page your readers would still be satisfied."
And the best one:
"Write only for yourself. If your story opened the window and made love to everyone it came across it would get pneumonia and so would you."
15: If you transport your original characters into another author’s world, which world would you choose?
I'd like to transport my characters to Camp Half-Blood. I don't know why, I just think it'd be interesting to see how they'd react in a place like that.
16: Would your story work better as a movie or tv show? Why?
Probably a movie? As long as all of the key points were hit I wouldn't have a problem with them cutting some stuff out. It doesn't seem complex enough to be fleshed-out into a TV series.
17: Do you make soundtracks for each story?
It depends on my mood, but I usually don't unless I'm really feeling a particular way.
18: If you could assign your story one song, what would it be?
The one I'm working on would likely be described best with the song Do You Hear the People Sing from Les Mis. I mean, it is a retelling of Les Mis....
19: Would you rather live in your characters’ world, or have your characters come live in our world?
I'd rather live in my characters' world because almost all of them live in the Russian Empire!
20: What book would you love to see adapted for the big or small screen?
Incarceron. They almost made a movie adaption of it back in 2011 or something but they never did. I love that book and I think it would look amazing as a movie or mini-series with how trippy and steampunkish it is.
21: Do you finish most of the stories you start?
Yes, actually.
22: Has your own writing ever made you cry?
When I was really young it did but it doesn't anymore, lol
23: Are you proud or anxious to show off your writing?
I'm both. I'm proud on the one hand because I know I'm a good writer deep down and that I have unique ideas. But on the other hand, I'm anxious because I don't know what the other person will think of it.
24: When did you start considering yourself a writer?
When I was around twelve and I started to write actual stories instead of just fanfics and put them on writing websites. That was when I realized I wanted to actually make a career out of it.
25: What books are must-reads in your genre?
Anything by Ruta Sepetys. This is probably controversial but I would also suggest Philippa Gregory and Michelle Moran. And Evelyn Skye's The Crown's game series too. I'm not sure if it counts as being 'historical fiction' but stuff from Twain, Dickens, and Tolstoy have inspired me and influenced me greatly so I would suggest them too, especially Tolstoy.
26: What would you like to see more of in your genre?
More obscure time periods or well-known historical events but told through the eyes of someone who lives in a nation that experienced that event but isn't written about very often, like Italy in WW2. And can we please stop writing about France? I swear, a bunch of YA historical fiction coming out next year all take place in France.
27: Where do you get inspiration from?
Everywhere. I often get inspiration from watching anime as cringy as that might sound. Some of my future ideas are even modeled after famous anime plots. But a huge majority of them are fairy-tale retellings, so you could say I get my inspiration from those original fairytales.
28: On a scale of 1-10, how much do you stress about choosing character names?
A thousand and ten.
29: Do you tend to underwrite or overwrite in a first draft?
Underwrite. If anything, my very first draft is just a collection of short notes about what I want to expand on and add in in future drafts.
30: Does writing calm you down or stress you out?
It stresses me out, actually. I start thinking about how my idea isn't original, how my characters aren't very good, how people will react to it, and eventually I can't focus at all.
Part 2 because the original was too long 31: What trope do you actually like?
Someone who was once at the top of the world being knocked down and being forced to associate with people they normally never would've, like a princess being made to hang out with townspeople after losing her fortune. It can take on many forms.
32: Do you give your side-characters extensive backstories?
I try to at least write small notes about their backstories. I also talk about their sexualities, hobbies, interests, fashion sense, likes/dislikes, etc. just in case. I often don't discuss things like sexualities in my work because it's not something that's on my mind at the time, but if I get asked at like some sort of event I would be able to answer them.
33: Do you flesh-out characters before you write, or let their personalities develop over time?
I at least have some kind of idea in mind for their personality. Sometimes it's as simple as saying 'I want them to be the opposite of this character' and I start to write them like that. Once I have that idea, then I start to flesh-them out in the actual story.
34: Describe your old writing in one word.

35: Is it more fun to write villains or heroes?
I know a lot of people would say villains, but I have more fun writing heroes. A lot of people dislike heroes in stories and find them to be boring or predictable. But I love heroes and oftentimes relate to them far more than I do the villains. I want to write interesting, complex heroes-but still have them be the heroes. I want to show people heroes can be interesting and engaging too.
36: Do you write with a black and white sense of morality?
I sure hope not! I want to try and make heroes who have questionable ways of attaining what they want, which in the end is a good goal, but they have questionable or even bad ways of getting to that end.
37: What’s one piece of advice you would give to new writers?
Read books in the genera you want to write in. Doesn't really matter the age group unless you already have a certain age group in mind for your writing. Find out the tropes and cliches in that genera. Find out the typical writing style. Ask yourself: "What isn't being done in this genera?" And then do that.
38: What’s one piece of writing advice you try--but fail--to follow?
To not write for anyone but myself. I want to write for myself, but at the same time I am aware of the audience I'm trying to write for.
39: How important is positive reinforcement to you as a writer?
It's very important to me. I know I'm not the best writer out there so I need a lot of encouragement to keep on going.
40: What would you ask your favorite author if given one question?
Well, I already asked Ruta Sepetys a question! Lol so if I had to ask Evelyn Skye one question, I would ask her how she responds to all of the negative reviews, since I know not a lot of people liked her debut novel.
41: Do you find it distracting to read while you’re writing a first draft?
Not really.
42: Do critiques motivate or discourage you?
They actually motivate me! Maybe it's because I don't really receive any negative comments, but seeing positive feedback really motivates me to continue doing what I'm doing!
43: Do you tend to write protagonists like yourself or unlike yourself?
A lot of my protagonists are a lot like me, it seems. I try to not make it obvious though. I try to experiment with different personalities and sometimes I throw my own in there.
44: How do you decide what story idea to work on?
I work on whichever one is pressing against me the most. By that I mean the story idea that literally won't leave me alone no matter what I do. Even if I write down just a little bit of it and put it away for a while, I still feel relieved that I got something out there and not keeping it in my head anymore.
45: Do you find it harder or easier to write when you’re stressed out?
It's actually harder for me to write when I'm stressed-out....but most of the time when I'm stressed-out I write so....lol
46: What Hogwarts house would your protagonist(s) be in?
Hufflepuff maybe? Or Ravenclaw.
47: Where do you see yourself as a writer in five years?
As a published author with two or three books out already.
48: Would you ever co-write?
Yes! It's actually a dream of mine to cowrite with another author. I would love to cowrite with someone and see our ideas combine!
49: Are you a fast and rushed writer or a slow and deliberate writer?
I'm a very fast writer...but lately I've been trying to take it slow and go over all of my work.
50: Would you rather be remembered for your fantastic world-building or your lifelike characters?
I'd rather be remembered for lifelike characters. I've noticed a lot of books that have amazing worldbuilding tend to have generic characters. But books where the worldbuilding doesn't matter have these characters that people cry and scream over. I want to be remembered for that and have people say things like 'these characters are so good!'

Oh yeah, we didn't go to the Splash Pad yesterday because my baby brother screamed all day and put Mom in a bad mood.
I arrived at the library early again today and saw this super cute boy waiting outside with me but when I looked at him closer I realized that he was the same twelve-year-old boy from the anime club back in February who I thought was much older and I nearly revolted in horror
Don't know why but I find it funny that one of Twitter's trending tags today is #WhatILoveAboutTheNineties and today is the anniversary of the worst tornado outbreak in my state's history which coincidentally happened on June 2nd, 1990
My mom says I need to put more positive stuff in my journal instead of negative stuff and I was literally like: "Do you even read my journal???? The main reason why nobody comments on it is because I talk about really insignificant stuff that makes me feel happy. If that's not positive I don't know what is,"
I thought I had seen everything in town but yesterday I saw someone out walking their rabbit. I am not joking. An actual living rabbit and it was being walked on a little leash.
It's so bright and sunny out today! It was cloudy and rainy on Wednesday and Thursday and it made me sad. But seeing the sun come out made me happy!
These four years have gone incredibly fast. I felt like it was just yesterday I moved into town and was going to start my first day of middle school any day now, but here I am.It's a little bit surprising to me that I survived, and its scary to me as well, because with all the recent school shootings, I worry for the future generation of freshmans and seniors. People should feel safe, not threatened. And to those who are going through a rough time in their life, do the best you can, and stick it out. Don't listen to the demons in your head that tell you can't. Listen to the voice of optimism, and improve.
I know this a little cliché, but it's important to me to let you know, its going to be okay. Because, look at me, I made it out, and Im just some girl nobody really knew or talked to that much. But, I have improved, and now a lot of you know who I am, even as embarrassing as that sounds.
But, anyway, hope you all have a great summer, and hope to a better future. I have faith in all of you, even more than I had faith in myself the first day of high school.

No....that has nothing to do with me. I mean, I even said I teared up when I read it...why would I tear up at my own writing? I don't care about school shootings. And I definitely wasn't 'some girl' whom nobody paid attention to in school. I was one of the most popular girls in high school.

It was raining really hard earlier with extremely strong wind gusts that knocked out the power. We had a severe thunderstorm watch in effect earlier but they cancelled it an hour ago. Basically I thought it would be fine to walk to the library since it's currently not raining or anything, just windy. But the power had been knocked out all over town. The stoplights didn't work and neither did the walk signs. So I think you can understand how much danger I was in when I had to cross extremely busy streets but luckily the drivers were very nice and let me cross. But it still made me nervous to see all of these people driving around without working streetlights. Almost everything in town was closed due to not having power and I quickly realized why barely anybody was out today. Thursday is often a very busy day in town here, especially in the summer. I honestly thought the library was going to be closed too but they got their power fixed it seems. There were a lot of tree branches strewn around town from the wind gusts.
So yeah, I probably shouldn't have gone to the library today if almost everyone has their power out...I hope it'll be fixed by tonight. I'm worried about trying to cross a busy street in the dark without any working stoplights or walk signs.
