~Look Down, You're Talking to Your Highness~[R]

Valentina was well aware of the dangers of the wilderness, after all, she practically lived in them. Lithuania was nothing but wilderness for most of it; one small town in the middle and then miles of forests around, for miles and miles around. She wanted to take her friends with her and of course they all packed some things too, simple and light things that wouldn't spoil overnight. Just as the military assigned. It wasn't the most delicious but it would do.
Also per the military's orders, they had to stick with the group. It took a lot of coaxing with the Lieutenant to allow her to go with her friends, but he relented as long as they didn't go off on their own. Dmitri scoffed at that-of course he would, they weren't children after all-but Valentina promised she would take good care of her friends.
And so, after dressing even more warmly and making sure their supplies were in check, Valentina and her friends headed off into the forest to 'scope out the scene', as the military put it, but she figured they would just spend a lot of their time messing around.
Not that there was anything wrong with that, of course.
Setting out started out simply enough. Sasha led the group around since he was the General of their particular group, and everyone else followed behind him.
"Do you think we will stay out long enough to see the sunset?" Maria asked cheerfully, clasping her hands together. "I do not know why, but sunsets in the forest are always so beautiful,"
"I surely hope not. It's bad to be in the forest at night," Dmitri said sternly, crossing his arms in front of his chest.
"That is if you are alone," Mykol tilted his head slightly in thought.
"Cheer up! I just wanted to see a sunset!" Maria giggled.
"I would like to see one too," Valentina added from the back, carrying their medical kits. She, Maria, and Sasha were the only ones with extensive knowledge of how to use them, but Valentina wasn't worried. They weren't likely to need them, or if they did, it would be for a simple bruise or sudden vomit attack.
"Did they say what we were looking for?" Mykol asked, glancing at Sasha, who shrugged. He was already much further ahead from the rest of the group. "So we can do whatever we want, huh?" He smirked slightly at Maria, who gasped in surprise.
"I think we just have to scope out this area. Make sure nothing illegal is happening, or people lying in wait to ambush travelers," Valentina suggested. The forest had already been dusted with a light fall of snow, a bit too light for mid-January, but the group was thankful for it.
"People don't even travel this way anyway," Dmitri grumbled.
"You are so grumpy today, Mr. Grumpy!" Maria chuckled, gently nudging him.
"Shut up," He roughly shoved her back, making her squeal in surprise.
"You can't do that to a lady," Valentina frowned slightly, turning to look back at them. Dmitri simply shrugged.
"Are you two fighting? If you are, I will send you straight back to Lieutenant Braginsky and you can explain to him why you came back early," Sasha warned, not even turning around to look at them.
"No General!" Maria announced, raising her hand apologetically. Her golden curls were hidden underneath layers of furry hoods on her head, but Valentina knew the ditzy girl well enough to know her hair underneath was put into a simple braid at her side.
Sasha continued walking, leaving some silence for Dmitri to quietly mutter an apology under his breath, and he found that satisfactory enough, as he didn't push it.
"We haven't found anything yet," Mykol stated, looking around. He had curly dark black hair and tan skin, though his eyes were a vibrant blue. "If I was Dmitri, I would say this was a waste of time,"
"It will not be a waste of time if we get to see the sunset," Maria said firmly, making Dmitri glare at her.
Valentina wondered why Dmitri was suddenly so apprehensive to the idea of a sunset. Was he really that nervous about getting lost in a forest? But they were all in a group, and Sasha wouldn't let anybody randomly wander off. She didn't know very much about blond Dmitri; they tended to train with separate squads and obviously they slept in different cabins. She had no idea what he did after lights out. Did he lie awake at night, praying for the light to come back? She wished she could remember who he shared his cabin with so she could ask them.
"Is the snow not pretty?" Maria smiled, holding out her hands to try and catch some of the flakes falling off the branches.
"I like it! It reminds me of my old home," Mykol smiled.
" Everything reminds you of your old home," Valentina reminded him in a teasing tone. In truth, she related the most to Mykol in the group. His blue eyes and her flaming red hair marked them both as outsiders, as half-ethnic children with a non-ethnic father. He was usually fairly quiet, but he could tear up battlefields with his sword in ways never seen before, in ways one wouldn't believe someone like him could.
"Have we found anything yet?" Dmitri demanded, having moved closer to Mykol and Valentina in a past few minutes.
"No. As you said, not a lot of people use this path, but better safe than sorry. In fact, that might make it even more of a target for criminals," Sasha explained. "Keep your guard up,"
The group nodded and silenced themselves, concentrating on everything that was around. Due to the snow, the forest seemed calm and still, almost ethereal. Valentina wondered if some of them were keeping quiet so as to not ruin the atmosphere.
An hour or so passed and soon it was breaktime, or what would be breaktime if they were back at the barracks. Sasha picked a shady spot underneath some older, taller trees that provided almost a makeshift canopy over their heads, then the rest of the group scooted in closer to him, pulling off their packs and stretching.
"I'm not particularly hungry," Dmitri shook his head as Maria started to unpack the food, glancing at the horizon line. She shrugged her shoulders and started to pass out the food to the rest of the group, gently sitting on her heels afterwards and making sure her skirt still covered up her legs. Valentina did the same, covering up her exposed petticoat.
"So, we have found no suspicious activity in the forest so far," Sasha recounted, and everyone nodded. "Good. Boring, but good. But sometimes boredom is preferable. I'm sure Lieutenant Braginsky would be very pleased with our progress."
"I cannot wait to go back though. Some of my friends were jealous that I was picked to come with you all!" Maria beamed, placing a hand on her rosy cheek.
"I cannot imagine why. All of you are such a boring group," Dmitri huffed, taking a swig from his flask, which had vodka inside it.
"Is that homemade?" Mykol asked curiously, pointing to it. Dmitri nodded.
"It's a thing in my family to make flasks for ourselves. I hide it under my shirt at all times. It can be pretty useful for other things too. I'm sure Lieutant Braginsky has seen me with it, he just doesn't want to take it away from me." He placed it underneath his shirt again.
Valentina nodded in understanding. Her father made a matching set for him and her mother, which they hardly ever took off. When she asked about them, he simply said it was a Russian tradition and ruffled her hair, telling her once she got a bit older he would make her one too.
Of course, that day never came. Her father ended up skipping out on her and her mother, the military said it was 'official business' but Valentina knew the real truth. He was sick of being tied down to a Krygz woman and her daughter, a daughter he likely never even wanted. Valentina's mother became distant and once she turned fourteen, she was pulled out of her coed boarding school and into early training to be in the military. Her schooling finished and five years later, here she was, a talented nurse and decent sniper for the Imperial Russian Army.
The irony.
"The food was very good! I will thank whoever made it when we return!" Maria promised loudly, shocking Valentina out of her thoughts.
"Really? I found it a bit dry," Mykol laughed awkwardly. "But it is food, right?"
"Better than nothing," Sasha concluded, looking up at the sky. "The sun should be due to set in a few more hours, so we should find our way out of here before then," He stood up and handed everyone their packs, and they nodded and started to follow him again, a few feeling antsy because of the vodka they drank.
"Yes, let's go back. Preferebly soon." Dmitri agreed, an edge to his tone Valentina hadn't heard there before. Maybe he really was afraid of the dark. She placed a hand on her heart briefly.
"What are you afraid of?" Sasha asked, likely to just make conversation with the group, but the topic seemed to briefly unnerve Dmitri even more before he composed himself.
"Nothing." He answered, looking away.
"I don't really like birds. Bad memories. But I have yet to see one in the forest, so we are good," Mykol laughed awkwardly again.
"I'm afraid of freezing to death. And a lot of Russians. They're just too big for me," Maria giggled in a bubbly way, making everyone else stare at the 6'4 girl slightly.
"I'm afraid of freezing to death too. I'm also afraid of a friend dying as a direct cause of my actions," Sasha said calmly, making Valentina put another hand on her heart.
"That's really deep," Maria gasped.
"How about you?" Mykol asked Valentina, and she thought about it.
"Being abandoned." She answered finally. "By anyone. Friends, family, lovers, whatever. I just cannot take all of the mental turmoil that comes with such an action." She looked away from Mykol, thinking of her own father's abandonment. She wondered if Mykol had a similar story, especially as he put a hand on her shoulder.
"Well luckily, none of us have anything to worry! Our fears won't bother us tonight!" Maria announced cheerfully, clasping her hands together.
"You say that as if you're so sure." Dmitri sneered. "How will you know a big Russian guy won't come barreling out of the forest and try to kiss you?"
"Dmitri!" She gasped, scandalized.
"Or puts his hands on your top, unbuttoning it, pulling your hat off, lifting up your skirt and lowering you down to the ground," He continued until he felt Sasha's glare on him.
"Dmitri! A big Russian man would never be in a forest like this!" Maria scolded, seemingly past the explicit description.
"You shouldn't say such things when ladies are present," Valentina scolded as well, teasing.
"Ladies shouldn't even be in the military, to begin with," He muttered under his breath, looking away.
"Come on, keep walking! We need to walk faster if we plan on making it back to the barracks before nightfall. At this rate, we'll just barely make sundown," Sasha scolded, turning around and walking ahead, forcing everyone else to run after him to keep up with his speed.
"It gets a lot colder at night too," Dmitri whispered in Maria's ear, making her gasp and run ahead even further to be at Sasha's side. "It is just a fact,"
"Come on, you two. I will tell the Lieutenant on you if you continue to misbehave," Sasha scolded more fiercely. Valentina giggled quietly and the group silenced once again, continuing to walk through the forest.
Nobody said it, but there was one solidary thought on everyone's mind: what if they didn't-couldn't make it back before nightfall? What if they were stuck in unfamiliar woods for the remainder of the night? Would they freeze to death? Or would their comrades find them? These thoughts even invaded Valentina's mind, and she always found herself to be the most level-headed of the group.
But in times like these, she couldn't help but to wonder. She tilted her head back and sighed heavily, watching the ghostly breath spill from her lips and float upwards into the darkening sky.

But I'm bored and who else is going to give me a prompt? I already have one sitting there so I might as well finish it.

Perhaps, but humans are social creatures who need strong bonds throughout their lives as part of their health.

Mom: "Definitely Sasha, because she eats a lot and is super annoying just like you are!!!!"
And all of my friends who had seen the show tried to reassure me by saying Sasha was actually super badass and that I should be proud to be like her, but when I asked them what badass things she had done in the show they weren't able to answer me and that pretty much just made me even more upset.
Mom keeps telling me she doesn't even remember saying that and that all of the characters run together in Attack on Titan so it doesn't even matter anymore.
But that whole incident is exactly why I stopped asking her that question.

In addition, the gusty winds will combine with very dry
vegetation to produce an elevated wildland fire risk across the
region today. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. One
uncontrolled brush fire burned over 20 acres yesterday in
southwestern Kentucky.

Review your severe weather safety procedures for the possibility
of dangerous weather today. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio,
weather.gov, or other media for watches and warnings. A tornado
watch means that conditions are favorable for tornadoes to form
during the next several hours. If a tornado warning is issued for
your area, move to a place of safety, ideally in a basement or
interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
(This is NOT for my area, nowhere near it in fact but I still found it interesting since weather updates like this are hardly ever used)

Even a regular, non-severe thunderstorm in the south carries strong winds and hail and knocks out your power.

..STRONG WINDS TODAY...
Southwest winds will gust to near 40 mph from the late morning
hours into the mid afternoon hours.
Unsecured objects may be blown around. Motorists, especially in
high profile vehicles, should be alert for strong cross winds.
This hazardous weather outlook is for central Indiana.
.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.

possible. There is a chance for light mixed precipitation Sunday
night into Monday morning. Snow accumulations are not expected at
this time.

Storms in Indiana or storms in the Deep South?

At like 1 AM it seemed like the storm had passed, it was still outside and the only sound was the wind.
Now this wind sounded like something I had never heard before. It was extremely violent, loud wind that pushed against my bedroom window with such force you could hear it pushing against the glass. It almost sounded like my window would break. And the wind was super loud too, it was whistling. At first I paid no attention to it, but it just got worse and worse and eventually I decided it couldn't hurt to go see what was going on.
I went into the living room and saw my dad still awake and watching TV and the news said a tornado had touched down somewhere and I looked at the radar and asked nervously: "Isn't that where we live?" And Dad nodded and asked if I wanted to come outside with him to look and of course I said yes because I don't know why, I just said yes. So we went outside.
The first thing I remember now about actually going outside was how warm it was. It was easily sixty or seventy, tops. This was late February, mind you, and we actually got a lot of snow and cold weather that year. Plus, it was one in the morning but it felt like a literal summer afternoon.
It was also bright. Not like daytime bright, but bright enough I could make sense of where I was because the sky was this extremely green colour. It was bright and sickly and thinking about it now makes me feel ill.
The wind was even louder and stronger now and sounded like an angry whistle blowing by. But the thing I remember myself thinking the most, even moreso than any of these other things, was that if I just walked off the porch and walked a few blocks to where my bus stop was, I would see the tornado. It was literally so close to me and there was nothing I could do about it.
I wanted to wake up Mom and my brothers and I ran back inside to do so, still in a really adrenaline-fueled way. I felt numb and terrified in a way I don't think I've felt since.
Mom didn't believe me when I woke her up and told her and told me I was just overreacting over nothing. She punished me for waking her up and punished me for being up so late on a school night.
The tornado ended up turning around and going the other direction; if it continued on the path it was on it would've slammed right into my house. I later learned it was an EF2, which is a decent strength for a tornado.
Ever since that day I've been petrified of tornadoes, and I'm sure my mom's reaction to the whole thing just made my fear worse. Of course we haven't had any actual tornadoes since, just funnel clouds and a bunch of watches and warnings, and tornadoes are actually extremely rare in my town anyway, but that doesn't make me feel any better.
My logic is always to expect the worst from severe weather, because one night I ignored a really powerful storm and I nearly paid for it. So now I feel like I always have to be one step ahead of severe weather so it never catches me off-guard like that again.

(Please forgive me if this is cringy and annoying, I was a edgy emo smol seventh-grader)
A Tornado Touched Down Right Next To My House!
Last night, one of those freak storms blew up and I was playing my laptop late at night, then I heard a serin. The wind was blowing so hard, it almost pulled my window off.
I told dad that we should be worried and he was watching something on the news and it said that a tornado had formed in Bloomation, and it was going to hit a heavily resdintoiul area. Dad was smiling, and we went outside. The clouds had a greenish tint to them, and the wind was blowing really hard now. Lighting flashed above us, and you could even hear the tornado. I was scared half to death.
Dad woke mom up and told her that a tornado had touched down where Wal-Mart was.
I'd like to point out that my arpement complex has about 6 or 7 clusters, and when you go down the winding road and turn right, Wal-Mart was there and I was the 4th arpement complex down.
Then, we kept watching the news, and it said the twister was moving away from us. It was pretty scary how the tornado was only 5 blocks away and made that choice.
I still worry like crazy, and I was tearing up writing this.
Elizabeth Out.

Why didnt your dad try to explain what happened?

And a lot of kids were late to school that day because there was knocked-over trees and signs and bad house damage and a lot of people had to spend the morning clearing all of the debris away. Like one kid said a tree was blocking his driveway and that was why he was late. Of course my neighborhood had some debris in it too but I somehow managed to make it to school on time.

Description: "These are Vines of all sorts of different anime!"
Actual Video: '98% of the Vines are from Seraph of the End'

I don't know, Maybe I'm just jealous because three books I want to write are influenced by anime I like but I just know someone is going to call me out and say I ripped off those anime because they have the same basic plot but the setting, characters, etc. are completely different

<3 <3 <3!!!!!
I don't know why but reading that made me want to call the insurance company. It made me want to do what needs to be done.

I don't deserve to cry because I just give people a hard time. My mom is in a bad mood and all I did was demand for her to come up with something for me to do and argue with her over stupid things. I'm a terrible person and terrible people don't cry.
