Rachel giggled. "I thought we already had that list made? Either way, I like Ciel," She motioned to the twin in her right arm.
"Then that one will be named Ciel,"
Rachel smiled warmly but weakly. "And this one? How about Astre?"
"I was going to suggest Cedric, after my father," Vincent stated, watching as the midwife and Rachel's sister gently took a baby from her. "Now you should rest up, you're still very weak," He took her hand and gently kissed it.
"Ciel and Cedric....they're unusual names, but I like them," She laid back in her bed, holding her chest.
"They fit parents like us though,"
~~~~~~~~~~~~
A few days later, Vincent's sister, Frances, arrived with her own children to take a look at the new heirs. The twins were wide awake in their cradles, reaching their hands out for anything that came close enough to be grabbed. Elizabeth gasped and hurried over to the cradles, learning over Cedric's.
"So tiny!" She gasped in amazement. "They look the same! They look like little dolls!"
"Keep your voice down," Frances scolded lightly.
"And just think, one day you'll be married to one of them," Vincent teased Elizabeth, ruffling the tiny little curls on her head. She seemed unfazed and kept staring at the babies.
"I can't tell them apart," Edward grumbled slightly, staring at Ciel. The baby he was looking at let out a tiny, curious coo.
"I'm sure they'll be easier to tell apart once they get older and have their own distinct personalities," Alexis reassured his children. "What are their names?"
"Ciel and Cedric," Rachael answered easily. "Aren't they pretty names?"
"Cedric?" Frances asked in curiosity.
"It was his idea. He wanted to name a child of ours after his father,"
A maid came in and gently nudged Elizabeth and Edward out of the room. "It's time for their nap," She explained to the pouty toddlers.
-3 Years Later-
"You're such a slow-poke!" Ciel laughed, running down the hallway. He stopped at the end to allow Cedric to catch up, and when he did, he was out-of-breath.
"Sorry," He pouted, fluffing out he skirt of his dress. "Doing what?" He asked and Ciel put a finger to his lips as he slowly pushed open the kitchen door, crouching down so it'd be harder to spot him. Cedric nodded and followed his lead, looking around.
"Cook made sweets! I want some! You do too," Ciel announced at a whisper, watching the kitchen closely to wait for an opening. Once the cook had his back turned, he bolted into the room, Cedric gasping and following after him.
"Wait up!" He reached the counter first and stared up at it, being too short to get the big bowl of frosting down from it.
"Watch!" Ciel smiled in a mischievous way and threw a fork really hard at the bowl, making it topple and fall over, spilling the frosting on the floor. "Free dessert!" He giggled and ran over to the mess, sticking his fingers into it and licking them clean. Cedric's eyes widened and he started to follow his lead, only to freeze when the cook shouted at them.
"You little brats!" He snapped, and Cedric gasped, standing up.
"I'm sorry!!!!" He apologized shyly. "It was good!!!!"
"We wanted some!" Ciel continued to lick his fingers off, looking absolutely unashamed. Vincent walked into the room and had to stifle his laughter when he found the twins.
"What kind of trouble have you two found yourselves in?" He gently picked them up, trying to avoid their wet and sticky hands. "Those cupcakes were meant for you and your cousins to share,"
"Is Eli mad?" Cedric asked in concern, his eyes widening.
"She doesn't care!" Ciel declared, grabbing Vincent's shirt with his hands.
"Sorry about these two. They're still young, you know," He apologized nicely to the cook, who still looked annoyed. "Now you two have to take a bath," He left the room with the twins in his arms and carried them back into the nursery, where their cousins were still playing.
"I wanna play too!" Ciel said, pointing at Elizabeth who was dressing up a stuffed rabbit.
"Bath time first," Vincent said gently, setting the twins down on the bathroom floor. He sent for a maid and patted their foreheads, then the twins watched as the maid filled the bath up with hot water and bubbles.
"Just our hands are dirty!" Ciel protested, holding them out for the maid to see. She simply smiled.
"Master's orders," She gently undressed the twins and placed them down in the bath once it was full. "Want any toys?"
"Yes please!" Cedric smiled politely, splashing around in the bubbles. "A rubber ducky!"
"I want a boat," Ciel said, and the maid nodded and hurried into the nursery, coming back with a yellow rubber duck and a colorful wooden boat for the twins. She placed them into the tub and smiled at they happily splashed around.
"Is it bath time? I want to take a bath too!" Elizabeth asked, leaning against the doorway. The bunny was still in the crook of her arm, wearing a pink frilly bonnet.
"It's not your bath time, Lady Elizabeth." The maid shook her head and flicked her wrist at Elizabeth to make her leave.
"Can Ciel and Cedric play with me when they're done?" She asked, undettered.
"But you're already playing with me!" Edward instantly piped up from the nursery.
"I wanna play with everyone!" She threw her hands into the air.
"Yes, both your brother and cousins may play when they're done," The maid promised, and the answer satisfied Elizabeth so she ran back into the playroom, sitting across from Edward and building a tower of blocks.
"It squirts water!" Cedric said happily, noticing a hole at the bottom of the duck designed to drain water. He instantly squeezed the duck underwater, making it overbloated, then he aimed it at Ciel and sprayed him, making the two giggle.
"Stop!" Ciel laughed, sending a huge splash of water at Cedric, soaking him. Cedric then gathered up a handful of bubbles and blew them at Ciel's face, making them settle in his dark hair.
"You're getting water everywhere," The maid scolded, getting out a small bar of soap and rubbing it into her hands to form a lather, then pulled Ciel closer to her and rubbing the lather into his hair.
"Hey!" He gasped in surprise and kicked his legs, sending more water and bubbles out of the tub. The maid continued to wash his hair, gently splashing some water over it to rinse.
"You're next," She pointed to Cedric, who instantly squeezed his eyes shut for fear of the soap falling in. She gently washed and rinsed his hair out too, then pulled the two out of the tub and wrapped them in towels. "Now wait here a second while I get-"
"Yay we're free!" Ciel cheered, instantly running off into the nursery, making the maid and Cedric gasp.
"Come back here!" She darted after him, soon catching up and picking him up. "Honestly,"
Elizabeth stared wide-eyed at the spectacle, soon laughing really hard. "He runs so fast! We should have a race!"
"Later, my lady," The maid shook her head and placed Ciel back in the bathroom, pressing her finger against his forehead. "Don't do that again. I'm going to get your clothes," She then left the room and came back in just a few seconds, apparently scared of one of them trying to escape again. She carefully put frilly blue dresses on them that went to their knees and brushed their hair, looking over her handiwork. "Alright, you may go play,"
"Yay! Let's go!" Ciel cheered, pulling Cedric alongside him into the nursery, helping Elizabeth build her block tower.
"It's already so big. If you keep building it, it'll fall over," Edward stated.
"Then we'll just rebuild it!" Cedric replied happily, placing another block at the top.
"Let's make my house!" Elizabeth suggested, taking another set of blocks and starting to build a fence.
"They've never seen your house before!" Edward scolded her.
"I wanna go," Cedric announced. "I wanna see Eli's house!"
"Me too," Ciel smiled at him happily.
-3 More Years Later-
"You just look like the most adorable dolls!" The seamstress cooed at the twins, dressed in identical blue and white sailor suits. "I did very good work,"
"This is kinda tight," Cedric said to himself, tugging at the ribbon at his neck.
Ciel stared at him for a bit before suddenly running off, making Cedric chase after him.
"I just got a funny idea!" He yelled back at Cedric, though he stopped once their dog lumbered out of their parents' room. "Sebastian!" He kneeled down and happily petted him.
Cedric simply gasped and stopped in his tracks. "Oh no," He tried to walk back the way he came before the dog noticed him, but the inky black dog started to bark really loudly.
"Sebastian! Stop it!" Ciel scolded, petting him and letting his fingers get tangled in the dog's fur.
"He doesn't like me," Cedric said quietly, more to himself. The dog had only been living there for a month and it had already decided it disliked him for no real reason. Everytime he was alone, Sebastian would bark, growl, and chase him. He hated that dog more than anything, he figured. He couldn't even remember who gave them it.
"Good boy," Ciel cooed, finally standing up. "I had a great idea for a joke!" He looked back at Cedric, hiding behind the corner. "Want to hear it?"
"What?" Cedric asked curiously, not coming out of hiding.
"If I told you, it wouldn't be a surprise! Come here," He gently pulled on Cedric's arm and led him to the laundry chute, a dirty laundry basket placed underneath. Ciel dug through it before pulling out something that glinted silver.
"That's....Mother's brush!" Cedric gasped. "You hid it!" The brush was soft-bristled and a very shiny silver with an ivy design on the back. "She was looking for that this morning!"
"I know! I told her Diederich's kid stole it," He smirked.
"She believe you?"
"A bit. But now we can bring it back to her and be praised!"
"So that is what happened to my brush," Rachel's soft voice reached their ears, making the twins gasp.
"Mother!" Cedric happily ran over to her and hugged her tightly. "Mother, Ciel stole your hairbrush!"
"I see that now," Rachel held out her hand for it.
"I didn't take it! I found it in the basket! That's where Fritz left it!" Ciel declined, hiding the brush behind his back.
"Ciel," She said simply, and Ciel got a big pout on his face as he slowly handed the brush over. "If you tell me the truth, I won't tell your father,"
"He stole it!" Cedric repeated, tugging on Rachel's grey dress.
"I wanted to take it and hide it so when I found it again, you'd give me a reward," Ciel admitted very quietly. "So I said Fritz stole it,"
Rachel smiled slightly. "It was a good attempt, aside from the fact Fritz isn't visiting today," She held the brush tightly in her hands. "I won't tell your father, but stay out of trouble, alright?" She kissed their foreheads and left the hallway.
"Mother's right, you know. We should just stay out of trouble...we've caused enough for one day," Cedric said shyly.
"You're right...." Ciel said, but a sly grin was forming on his face. "Mother's hair is really shiny,"
"Yes! It's super shiny!" Cedric agreed happily. "What about it?"
"Aunt Angelina says her hair is super shiny because she uses eggs!" Ciel finished, laughing.
"Eggs? What? You use those for cakes,"
"She cracks them over her head and then washes her hair out. They make it shiny!" Ciel dashed off again, making Cedric run after him.
"Wait! What are you going to do? What do eggs have to do with anything?" He ran after him and found him in the kitchen, trying to coax one of the servants into giving him some eggs.
"What for, my lord?" she asked suspiciously.
"Mother wants them for her bath!" Ciel said happily, holding out his hands.
"Because she trusts me!" He then noticed someone struggling to carry in the jug of milk bottles and pointed in that direction. "Oh, he needs help!"
"Hm?" The maid looked and saw the struggling man, gasping. "Oh goodness, he does!" She placed the eggs on the counter and hurried to help while Ciel stole the eggs from her, stuffing them into his pockets and running back into the hallway, only to run right into Cedric. The two fell on the floor with a crack.
"Did I break something?!" Cedric instantly worried, looking himself over before he noticed something yellow and runny pouring from the pockets of Ciel's pants. "Did you have an accident?"
"What?" He showed his hands into his pockets, only to gasp and find broken eggshells and goop on his hands. "They broke!" He stood up and tried to pull the broken eggs out of his pockets.
"Get rid of them before someone sees!" Cedric cried urgently, dancing on his toes. "What were you trying to do?"
"I just wanted to see if they would make our hair shiny too!" He tried to pull more out, only to hear someone's footsteps. "Father-!" He turned around, only to see Edward standing in the hallway, looking at them in silence.
"I don't think I even want to know," He said finally, leaving.
"Oh, that means Elizabeth is here!" Cedric said happily. "We're going on a picnic today with her and Aunt Frances!"
Ciel finally managed in cleaning his pockets out, groaning slightly in disgust. "My hands are all sticky," He slapped them together to try and get the eggshells off.
"Cedric! Ciel! Are you ready to go?" Rachel called cheerfully, her eyes widening when she saw the egg mess on the floor. She frowned instead.
"Mother! Your hair is really shiny today!" Cedric laughed awkwardly.
-3 More Years Later-
Cedric wandered around the house, looking for his brother. The Midfords had come over again to spend the Autumn holiday, but they were planning on leaving once more for winter, which meant they would miss the twins' tenth birthday. Cedric was disappointed by it, but there wasn't very much he could do. "Ciel! Ciel? Where are you?" He called, going into the kitchen and looking around. He figured he could spend time with Elizabeth and Edward, but his cousins were twelve and fifteen and so much more mature and intimidating than him. He didn't really feel like being scolded by Frances either.
"Here I am!" Ciel said happily, standing on a stool and watching one of the servants make a big pot of tea.
"Ciel!" Cedric happily ran over to him. "What's this?"
"The tea for Lizzy's party. See how fancy it is?" He motioned to the gold-embellished set made of fine china.
"Oh, that's Mother's favorite set!" Cedric breathed. "I hope she doesn't break it!"
"Lizzy is very careful," Ciel winked. "I asked if we could take it to her,"
"Us? But isn't it really heavy?!"
"We're just carrying the tea pot," He explained just as the servant announced the tea was done.
"Here you go," He gave Ciel special gloves and handed the handle to him. "Be careful,"
Ciel nodded and smiled sweetly. "We'll be very careful," He promised, slowly walking out of the kitchen. He then placed the teapot on a nearby endtable and pulled a small packet out of his pocket.
"What's that?" Cedric asked curiously.
"Seasoning," Ciel answered, ripping open the packet and gently pouring half of it into the tea. He then stirred it up, throwing the spoon into a dustbin.
"Tea doesn't need seasoning-"
"Trust me," Ciel simply placed his finger to his lips as he picked the teapot back up and carried it over to the tearoom, where Elizabeth and Edward were quietly sitting and waiting.
"Our tea is here! Thank you very much," Elizabeth smiled politely, taking the pot from Ciel and pouring it into both hers and Edward's cups, not spilling a single drop. "Did you want one of these? I can't eat any more!" she offered her plate of biscuits to the twins, and Cedric eagerly took one.
"Come on, all that sugar isn't good for them," Edward scolded, sipping his tea. His clothes were in the same shade of light green as Elizabeth's and had just as much frills.
"It's just one cookie!" Elizabeth protested, drinking her own tea. "Besides, I really couldn't eat anymore,"
"Let's give the rest to the servants!" Cedric suggested happily. "I bet they'll love them!"
"Oh, sure," Ciel hummed. Cedric quietly ate the chocolate biscuit as he watched his cousins drink the tea and chat about how their training was going and what plans they had for the winter holiday. Elizabeth finished her tea first and placed the cup on the saucer with a clatter.
"What kind of tea is this?" Edward asked.
"Your usual," Ciel answered quickly.
"Maybe I did eat too many biscuits...my stomach hurts," Elizabeth said quietly, clutching it.
"So does mine," Edward said in surprise, standing up. "Did you do something to it?"
"No," Ciel answered.
"He just put seasoning in it," Cedric stated, making Ciel glare at him.
"Nobody puts seasoning in tea!" Edward scolded before quickly dashing out of the room.
"It hurts," Elizabeth cried, running out of the room as well.
"What did you do?" Cedric asked the second they were gone. He started to drink some of Edward's leftover tea, only to have Ciel smack his wrist.
"Don't! It'll make you sick too!" He yelled, pulling a small box out of his pocket. "I put these in their tea,"
Cedric rubbed his wrist gingerly and read the box, his eyes widening. "These are...laxatives? You put laxatives in their tea?!"
"Isn't it clever? There's no proof it was me," Ciel smirked.
"I guess that idea could come in handy later....maybe," Cedric said to himself, unsure of when he would ever need to do something so gross and mean to someone else.
"Cedric!!! Ciel!!!! Get in here!" Vincent directed from the hallway, making Ciel throw the box under the table and hurry off.
"Like I said, there's no proof I ever did anything wrong!"
"Wait up!" Cedric pouted, hurrying after his twin. "We're in so much trouble again...."
Why was Cedric wearing a dress?
He's being breeched
What does that mean?
In the olden days little boys who were being pottytrained would be breeched until they were old enough to properly undress themselves , usually around the age of seven or eight. Until then, they would wear dresses so it would be easy for them to take their clothes off to use the bathroom. The creator of Black Butler drew a lot of scenes of the twins dressed in breeching dresses so of course I had to jump on that bandwagon
Besides, I totally love the idea of Ciel and Elizabeth wearing matching dresses when they were little
