Anna Chichester I picked up this book last summer and ended up putting it down after 70 pages or so. The story was original, however having been introduced to more advanced writing since I'm in high school, I couldn't get into it due to the writing. It's not bad, but it's for a younger audience. I first read Harry Potter in middle school and that made the experience more enjoyable per-say because it was targeted more towards my age group at the time. Should I give this another go?

Kristen I think it really depends on the reader and the mood you're in at the time. I made it to the third book and abandoned it somewhere after chapter 2. The series was just 'blah' to me. But some people really love it.
However, if you were bored after 70 pages, I can't imagine you'd feel differently with the rest of it. For me at least, it was not one of those books that was worth it when I reached the end.

Neha I think you should. The books are undoubtedly for younger audience, and as I'm growing up I find this difference too. But believe me, it's all totally worth reading! We're talking about Rick here, the Myth Master, who writes book based for middle grade children, but have such amazing plot twists and concepts about Mythology and Modern Life that it completely amazes the adult audience too! And the characters- oh they're all soo good. And if you like this series of Percy Jackson, you'll just Love the sequel series-The Heroes of Olympus- even more!

Happy Reading :)

Inah (Fueled By Chapters) I think you might just give this book another go. I picked up this one when I was in my 3rd year of high school, but I'm like 14 at that time so it's totally understandable. It may be for middle-graders but Rick Riordan somehow manages to drop subtle hints for mature humor. Plus, the series is totally amazing.

Stephen Personally, I'd save it for when you're younger.

I used to be too old for such things as well but after 50 when I found my narrow waist and broad mind starting to change places I decided that maybe some younger reading was in order.

That's partly a lie... I've never been narrow waisted.

Lenny I was unsure if I would like reading from a 12 year old's POV but I LOVED the series and until now I haven't disliked a single thing uncle Rick has written. Just give it a try!

IT IS BRILLIANT!!! I am in high school and I am an avid Percy Jackson fan, I've read all of them and they're amazing! The characters progress and grow older through the books and they get better as they go along (even though the first one is great too)... I would highly recommend them!

Brittany I read these books in high school along with my little sister, and I really enjoyed them. Even though they are targeted to please a younger audience, I really enjoyed the story and watching the characters mature and grow. I am looking forwad to reading Heroes of Olympus Series, which I have heard is targeted towards an older audience. I would say to give the book another go, also, as the series progresses the books get better!

I think you mean Blood of Olympus haha. House of Hades is already out :P

Kelly Brigid ♡ It really depends on the type of reader you are. I know some 10 year olds who adore this series, and some 30 year olds who love it. I think it is more enjoyable as a younger reader, but is still a good read for any age.

House of Hades released last October; do you mean Blood of Olympus? Haha. :)

Tilly Wheatley Oops, getting them completely mixed up! I was thinking about Nico, which led to Hades! :D

Shannon Dalrymple I think you could give them another try. My younger brother read these books, loved them, and insisted I read them. I think I started at around 15? Anyways They are really cute, and perfect if you like myths

Aidan Chan If you like greek mythology, then yes. You would be amazed.

Patricia Kaniasty I am 47 and loved the excitement of the stories. You are never to old to read ANY book. There are no rules. If it's a good story, read it. I spend just as much time in the youth section of the library as I do the adult.

Cinder YES.

Give it ago!! Sure it didn't start out that interesting but it gets better and better and soon you won't be able to put it down!! Like me, I didn't stop reading for 4 hours straight!! It is non stop adventure!!

chinami i read this series as an adult and found it lacking in romance as these books are meant for children around the age of 12. being original, fast, action based and funny the books were worth the read.

Actually, romance does start forming between the characters starting in the 3rd book. It just has traces but it grows stronger.

i think the heroes of olumpus series is more mature but to read that first u must finish the pj series...

Agreed. But both series are equally enjoyable. No wait, take that point back. Heroes of Olympus series has many things more as the original and new characters mix and mingle.

C.T. Tunnell If you don't find it enjoyable there's nothing wrong with that. The 'intended audience' tagline doesn't really affect me personally. I think it's worth reading, but you shouldn't force yourself to.

I enjoy this series because it's a lot of fun. He takes lots of graphic material (the original greek myths) and tones them down enough to pass for a younger audience. He does this primarily through leaving out details, though he doesn't do this in every case (Tantalus comes to mind). As a history major, I find the series fascinating because he's constantly putting strange and inventive twists on history as he mixes it with myth.

Stephanie Bolen I have the same problem with a lot of YA books. I hated high school, and camp sucked why anyone would want to relive those days is a mystery to me. I have one problem with these books it's not the YA aspect. It's the fact that even though Percy has studied Greek mythology, he is continually surprised. I get the intended audience hasn't really read Odysseus or Orpheus or even the creation myths. But the characters are all supposed to have a working knowledge of those things.

Victoria Ellis I read the Percy Jackson books when I was 17 so I really think it depends on your mood at the time. The first time I read 'The Lightning Thief' I had already seen the film, and was really critical. But a year later I read it again and found myself really enjoying it for what it was; a fun, adventure book.

Hannah Kelly Read it in high school myself. But for me if I enjoy a book I don't care what age demograph it's written for. Harry Potter started out easy and got harder and those are some of my favorite books ever. If i hadn't started them later I don't think I would have appreciated them the same way. Percy however doesn't get any harder so if that bothers you than maybe its just not right for you.

Annie Ivanova I decided to give it a try and it was boring at first. It's really written for a younger audience. But I just started reading the 5-th book and I have to say - the fourth was much better and interesting. So if it's not too boring for you, try.

Ina Reads its pretty interesting once you start reading it! i really enjoyed this one.

Elizabeth Rund The story is engaging, original and very fast paced. I read this series when i was 12 or 13 and found the writing very simple. It is very enjoyable for light reading, but if you are looking for something more challenging i would choose a different book.
