Soren Summers (sorensummers) | 5 comments Hi there, my standalone novella Smolder was somehow added to my Vertex series of books. It's in the same setting but is otherwise not a continuation to the first book. In fact I'm still writing the sequel, haha.

Could I get some help removing it from the series, please? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

If it's in the same setting and has characters in common, that would meet Goodreads criteria for being in a series.

Soren Summers (sorensummers) | 5 comments It isn't technically book 2, though, which is what is indicated on the series page now. When the actual second book comes out, it'll then be marked as book 3. Wouldn't that just be more confusing?

As a novella, it should actually be listed as 1.5, rather than 2. Corrected.

Also added a note to the series.

Soren Summers (sorensummers) | 5 comments Thanks for the numbering correction, much appreciated! Smolder isn't actually a sequel, though. The two books don't share characters, and they're unrelated stories. Could we leave out the note? Sorry for the hassle.

I'm having trouble reconciling this with same setting. Could you please elaborate?

Soren Summers (sorensummers) | 5 comments Sure thing! I write MM romance in a sci-fi/dystopian setting. Monster is the first book in the Vertex series, and every book in that series will feature the same main couple, Jarod and Gabriel. I'm currently planning for a trilogy following the same two main characters.

Smolder is a standalone novella that follows a different couple, Zach and Nathan, unrelated to Monster. Both books are, however, set in the same universe, which revolves around a megacorporation called Vertex. There is otherwise no relation between the two books.

I guess one way to look at it is the relationship between the main A Song of Ice and Fire books versus The Tales of Dunk and Egg: same setting, but with different characters and stories.

Hope that clears it up!

Thank you. That's very clear. Removed number from Smolder and changed series note. https://www.goodreads.com/series/1944...
