Gosh Sheila I'd be gutted too! Do you ever use Amazon Marketplace? I buy lots of my books from it. Great value and you nearly always get the oldies there.
Frankly I don't explore much as I am so busy reading and I find with the "promotions" others tell us about on GRs I have no problem having a large pile of TBR books. I will keep that in mind though...so thank you.
279.) The Musketeer by Sofie....A very short unpublished modern JAFF storyhttps://www.dwiggie.com/derby/old_200...
Sheila and JW - I'm so sorry you lost your book store and your credit!!!! That is tremendously sad! Our B&N has a used book section, which I love!
Nor ours either... my membership is usually due this time of the year, so the next time I'm in there I will ask. That would be really nice.
We were left here with one bookshop when the rest closed. I can never find anything that I read there plus they are very expensive. Then two months ago a new one opened in the shopping centre. I bought a book there for my nephew for Christmas and it was €5 cheaper than the other shop. €4 difference in a book my daughter bought. So great!! Because however much I buy on line I still like to walk into a bookshop and be able to purchase one I like.
I'm with you Teresa... there is something about walking in a bookstore and coming out with something delightful in your arms. ** Sigh**
Couldn't agree with you more,Teresa! Love browsing in the local bookshop, picking out books that catch my eye and sometimes treating myself to one.
I'm off in tomorrow morning for a browse around. My mother gave me money for my birthday so I'm going to treat myself. It's my own little Christmas hiatus because I have a hectic week ahead. So looking forward to it.
Thanks for the wishes J W and your one of the first with them. My birthday is not till Wednesday (Mam's always early with everything) so I'm officially claiming this as my first happy birthday!!! Yeh!
Hope you have a really lovely time looking around the shops in town,Teresa. Hope something special catches your eye and that you treat yourself to it! You're worth it! 👠📕🍷
Shopping for books is always fun, especially this time of year! Enjoy, and have a happy, happy birthday!
280.) Nature of the Beast ~ By Autumn D https://www.dwiggie.com/derby/autumnd...This is a long paranormal story which involves werewolves and mages. The Bennet sisters all have a magical power. Elizabeth communes with nature and has a healing touch for such...plants and animals benefit from her care...and a werewolf/dog is one of those in this tale. 4 stars

Thanks Sheila. Got a couple of books but to be honest there wasn't a great selection. I'll wait for my vouchers and then hit Amazon :-)
That is the spirit Teresa. I have already gotten one and loaded up my Amazon account as soon as I got home. Thanks to my SIL... of course I got her one also. That is our little joke in the family.
I always ask for an amazon/kindle gift card for Christmas, and I usually get one from someone in the family. Already looking forward to spending it!!
Apologies for posting this on Sheila's Y-T-D page! Happy birthday Teresa! Hope you'd a great day!! 🍰🍷🎉😊
Thanks Mary. Got some lovely presents (lovely book vouchers) so I'll have fun spending them. Have tonsillitis and on antibiotics which is a bummer cos I'm kinda knocked out with it. But it could be worse. Hopefully I'll be back on my feet for Christmas. All the best to you for the hols.
Hope you feel better quickly, Teresa! It's no fun being sick this time of year. (Okay, really, when IS it fun being sick? But you know what I mean...)
Thanks guys but I think I now have a kidney infection as well. Off to docs again tomorrow. It never rains but it pours and I have so much to do this weekend.
I drink lots of cranberry juice as I get urinary track infections plus my kidney are not functioning normally since my open heart surgery in August.
I used to drink it but haven't for a long time. Must start again. The same thing happened to me last Christmas. Got tonsillitis and then a week later got a kidney infection. I don't know what it is. I think I might be slightly 'run down' as my mother would say. I seem to be on the road morning noon and night and I'm constantly clock watching. Something will have to change in the New Year because I can't keep it up. I'm totally exhausted with the past three weeks or so. Hopefully have a rest over the hols.
Teresa, first off,I'm glad you got lots of book vouchers and that you can treat yourself to lovely goodies!!! 📕So sorry to hear that you're sick. I think at this time of year our batteries are run down and we need Christmas to recharge them. You seem to be very busy so I think it wise that you prioritise 'you' next year....if you know what I mean. ☺️
Hope Christmas goes well for you and you get some 'me' time. I'll be thinking of you!
Thanks Mary. I'm so fed up with being ill this time of year. I'm going to enjoy it though even if it kills me :-)
Teresa wrote: "Thanks Mary. I'm so fed up with being ill this time of year. I'm going to enjoy it though even if it kills me :-)"Teresa, do remember that we care about you and for you. I include you in my prayers at night. I am sure others do also. Take care of your self.
There's a lullaby that has a line included but here it is for you: "So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep. We care about Teresa and she will not keep...( in other words...she needs immediate sleep)
The whole poem/lullaby is this:Song for a Fifth Child
by Ruth Hulburt Hamilton
Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth,
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing and butter the bread,
Sew on a button and make up a bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She’s up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.
Oh, I’ve grown shiftless as Little Boy Blue
(Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
(Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo).
The shopping’s not done and there’s nothing for stew
And out in the yard there’s a hullabaloo
But I’m playing Kanga and this is my Roo.
Look! Aren’t her eyes the most wonderful hue?
(Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
For children grow up, as I’ve learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.
Never heard that one, Sheila. So sweet and so true! Thanks for sharing. And Teresa, Sheila's right. You're in our hearts and prayers, dear. Get better, and take better care of yourself. "No" isn't a long word, but sometimes it's the hardest one for us to say, even when we should. Don't agree to take on any more than you reasonably can. Good New Year's resolution!
That's just beautiful Sheila! Thanks so much for sharing. Thanks Debbie. You're so right about the word 'no' ! I've never been able to say it with conviction.
Thank the Lord for GR and my friends here. You are all my saving grace.
Teresa every time I take antibiotics I get an infection. The doctor told me to eat yogurt to help replace the good bacteria my body needed or take a probiotic. Also, if you can't drink cranberry juice, there are cranberry tablets. I've done that too. We are sending you well wishes, healthy vibes and healing thoughts. Blessings my friend.
Friends, last night in the dark I tripped on a curb and landed on my face on the concrete. Went to both an emergency care facility and then to the ER for a CT. I am OK except for abrasions down the right side of my face and a need for new glasses. No Christmas photos, Please. I have a "beautiful" black eye!
Oh,Sheila,I don't believe it! What a terrible thing to have happened. Thank goodness you're ok,apart from the shiner! That too will fade with time. Take care of yourself, make yourself a cuppa and treat yourself to an audiobook!
Sheila, bless your heart. I am so sorry. You can tell people that you ticked off Santa or one of his elves and they decked you. Maybe not as glamorous as saying you got coal for Christmas. But, it could work. All joking aside. we are so glad that you are OK. Sending you healing thoughts and hoping for pain free sleep.
I was taking a computer tower down our deck steps on my way to the car and hung my foot on the last step... I fell forward and right on the tower... that was the only thing keeping me from doing a face plant into the concrete stepping stones. My knees and hands took the brunt of the fall with me spread across the tower. By landing on my hands and knees... they took the brunt of the fall and that saved my ribs. I was a mess for a while.
Get better my friend.
Sheila -- Falls are BAD! I'm glad you have minimum damage except for your new "beauty" mark. Take care.
Gosh I'm so sorry to hear that Sheila. As if you hadn't been through enough already. Take care girl. We can't do without you here. J W thanks for all that. I have probiotic tablets to take as I can't do the yogurts or drinks because of the cow's milk and it's hard to get any of those in goat's milk here where I live. I'll get the cranberry juice tomorrow. Hadn't thought of it until you mentioned it!
I am so sorry to hear about your fall and am glad you didn't break anything! Hope you are still able to enjoy your holidays and get some glasses soon.
