True Crime Anniversaries, 2017 Edition
8/5's Man of the Day is James Byron Haakenson. He is the second unidentified victim of John WAYNE Gacy to have been named using DNA testing. After he ran away from home, he called his parents on August 5th, 1976 to tell them he'd made it to Chicago and was OK. Nobody ever heard from him again, and 2 years later he was found in Gacy's crawlspace, more or less intertwined with Rick Johnston, who definitely died the very next day. So it appears Gacy was just about the first person he met up with in the Windy City. See The Chicago Killer.

Sheila Egan breathed her last on this day, thanks to Willie Pickton. See On the Farm.
William Code, Joe Robinson, and Eric Williams all died at the hands of Nathaniel Code. See Rise of the Black Serial Killer: Documenting a Startling Trend. It's really sad to me that all the victims in this big volume don't seem to rate their own individual books, but that's the way the cookie crumbles, I guess, when you're "less dead."

What most online articles fail to mention is that Edwards was married at the time to Brenda's sister, meaning that he was right there at the funeral comforting his wife and in-laws about their devastating loss, the rat bastidge.
