2017 - Where in the world are you? (Currently reading)

I'm in the U.S. with The Pecan Man and circumnavigating the world with Over The Edge Of The World: Magellan's Terrifying Circumnavigation of the Globe.

I have wanted to read The Pecan Man for some time. Looking forward to your thoughts and impressions of this one.

I'm continuing a number of other great books, but also am in Hydra (Greece) with Beautiful Animals by Lawrence Osborne. I am wowed at the 1/3 mark, by everything -- language, characters, ability to describe human relationships with very few nuanced words, and plot pacing. I don't know where this is going, but I'm in.

I very much enjoyed The Pecan Man and would highly recommend it. Amazing how much was packed into this short book - great storyline, wonderful characters, human kind at its worst and, most importantly, at its best. A 5-star read for sure. I think you would enjoy it Carol.

That's wonderful to hear. Thank you, Lilisa!

I'm in 19th century Turkey with A Bride's Story, Vol. 1, a graphic novel written/drawn by Kaoru Mori.

I'm back in India with The Artist of Disappearance by Anita Desai. It's an anthology of 3 novellas, and I've already read the second one, so it should only be a quick visit!
Now I'm in Tibet with a fairly recent YA release - Running on the Roof of the World by Jess Butterworth. It's pretty fast-paced and absolutely beautiful to look at, with mandala-like chapter headings every few pages.

Yesterday I picked up Enchanted Islands from the library, which Jenny recommended to me at the start of the year. With my Galapagos trip mere weeks away, I'm keen to get swept away with this one.
I'm in Poland with book two of a great mystery/police procedural series: A Grain of Truth by Zygmunt Miłoszewski.
Hi all. Sorry, I've been away travelling for 5 weeks or so. I have been keeping up with your reads, but just not able to post much myself.
I'm currently reading The Gardener from Ochakov (by the same author of Death and the Penguin which I think a few people have read). I'm enjoying it. Whimsical and fun, sort of urban fantasy, sort of WWII book. Not sure how it will end up. Will let you know :D

Sounds like you had a great time Rusalka!
I'm in Korea (when it was one country) and Japan with Pachinko and in the U.K. with Year of Wonders and still navigating the world with Over the Edge of the World: Magellan's Terrifying Circumnavigation of the Globe (I guess it does take a while to go travel around the world!)

I'm in Uruguay with Cristina Peri Rossi's The Ship of Fools. It is excellent and way outside of my reading comfort zone

I'll be looking to see what you think of this one. I enjoyed the second one.

This is one of the best books I've read this year, Pauline. I hope you enjoy it.

I second that Carol.

Wow, that has some good reviews! I'll be waiting to see yours too.

I've just landed in Hong Kong, where I am making Ava Lee's acquaintance in The Dragon Head of Hong Kong. So far, so good.
... and now I'm finally jumping into the Pocket Atlas of Remote Islands: Fifty Islands I Have Not Visited and Never Will, as recommended by Rachel at the start of 2016.

Love Ava Lee!

I'm in East Germany just before and during WWII with Visitation by Jenny Erpenbeck. (It's also this month's book club selection in the 21st Century Lit GR group, if anyone wants to join the discussion.)
I'm also in Paris in 1950 or so, with In the Café of Lost Youth by Patrick Modiano. My first time reading him.

The Lebanon one sounds intriguing, Carol. I'm in India with The Accidental Apprentice - almost close to finishing - I'm liking how it's done.
