And this is why I messaged a mod to withdraw me from this challenge. Poorly executed challenge, no communication. If you're still waiting for people this close to the start date, that's a huge problem. As a person who actually has a life and can't afford to wonder constantly, waiting for info was a waste of my time. I've run bigger, longer challenges with a lot more people smoother than this, in less time.

No disrespect to anyone. My life away from GR is a lot more important than constant checking in. I actually needed to plan out things for this to work. Lack of communication proves I won't be able to.

In the past two years that I've done Uno, and this year so far, I've always felt like the mods have been super responsive, positive and helpful, and it is one of my favorites of the group challenges. But it is certainly true that every challenge isn't a good fit for everyone - good thing because that means we are all unique and interesting. And it's certainly better to step out at the start than mid-challenge since that is difficult for the team.

I'm not sure what the issue is. The challenge doesn't actually begin until 01 Feb, which allows plenty of time for Captains and team members to check in. The fact that we are only waiting for one captain after 24hrs seems to me that there is no problem with communication. And as you said, people have real life to deal with and can't be checking Goodreads constantly, and need more than a day to check in. Perfectly reasonable since the challenge start date is still nearly two weeks away. I also thought it was smart for the mods to withhold the team assignments until the captains have a chance to check in.

Most of us are just going crazy checking and rechecking the threads because we're excited.

Is well over a week, almost two, until it starts - a bit of patience for a few more hours is not that much to ask :)

I know I am super excited to be assigned to a team - but once I am there is still just under two weeks to go before I can even start reading - I think it's quite fair for the Captains and Co-Captains to check in and get the team thread ready for our thunderous arrivals :)

The two weeks-ish allows for us to get to know our teams - chat and interact - maybe go visit our friends in other teams to say hello.

Will be such FUN!!!!!

I'd like to thank the mods for all their hard work so far :D We know they have busy lives and still make the time to create and run these challenges.

I'm super excited for this round. UNO was my first group challenge so it will always be my fave. The suspense is killing me but I know it will be worth the wait ;)

This is my second time doing this challenge, so not too much experience, I know, but the challenge doesn't start for 9 days, so I don't think it's a big deal that 1 captain hasn't checked in. There's more than enough time to plan for February 1st. And the mods in this group, and the captains of the teams, have been so responsive in the past, I don't expect this year to be any different.

I'm only consistently checking in because I want to know my team.

GR is so big, there are so many challenges for everyone, no reason to be negative.

And of course one of the things we have to remember is time zones. If this person is in Australia for instance it is early in the morning there and they may be a work.

I am as anxious and excited as everyone but I agree with over a week till we can get started another day is not a big deal to wait.

Having more people join up right before time, just shows how popular the game has become. Its nothing to do with planning.
We ALL want to see who our teamies are, and are just excited to "move in". Having someone not check in, is in no way fault of the mods here. Its not like they can physically go to their door and make them log on.
With groups challenages you get all walks of life. Some may be on GR every five minutes checking for their UNO team, or some may only stop by once every few days. You just have to take it as it goes.

This is my second time playing, and I have to say I have no complaints with the game itself or the mods.....now some members on the other hand.......well lets not go there.....

And if you check the main thread. You, Greenfairy ,have actually been assigned a team since yesterday, and have not checked in.

Thank you all for your supportive comments.
We do the best we can, and sometimes it can be helpful to remember that we don't get paid or have any benefit for being a mod. That means that our day-day lives (work, family) do come first.
It is probably best to leave now if you aren't happy, although of course the irony is that I need to manoeuvre team members to account for your exit so it will now take a bit longer to finalise everything! :o
I'm at work right now but will work on the finalisation when I get home and hopefully our last captain will have checked in by then too!
