I gave up after book 1. The MC annoyed me.

Kirsten (kielianne) | 265 comments Victoria wrote: "Next question.... What's the WORST book you read in 2016?"
Both of these I gave 2/5:
The Wizard of the Sea or, A Trip Under the Ocean - outdated vocabulary/labeling, racism, slavery, slaughter of animals for sport, etc. all pushed me away from this book.
This Side of Evil - just wasn't up to the standards I have come to expect for Nancy Drew.

NEXT QUESTION: If you could only read one genre of books for the rest of your life, which genre would you pick?

It got worse with book 2 imo. But I'm also open with the fact I'm
Not a big paranormal romance reader

maria helena (mariahel) | 964 comments Kirsten wrote: "NEXT QUESTION: If you could only read one genre of books for the rest of your life, which genre would you pick? "

Ha, easy to answer for me. Without a doubt mystery-crime (and if I had to narrow it down even more it would be Nordic crime).

I used to be a much more varied reader but for each year, I think my preferences becomes more and more narrow.

-------------------------------
FOLLOW-UP QUESTION: Which genre would be your last pick/would you absolute not pick, if you could only read one genre of books for the rest of your life?

Caly ☯ Crazy Book Lady Morning all! I'm Caly in TN, I am currently reading Into the Sea of Qi by Mark Popplewell because I love both Historical Fiction and books about the Chinese culture. Just started it, but interesting so far...

FOLLOW-UP QUESTION: Which genre would be your last pick/would you absolute not pick, if you could only read one genre of books for the rest of your life?

Easy for me, I absolute would NOT chose Romance novels. I hardly ever read them because I think they are so formulaic, often make women seem weak because of what they do for love and reading about sex doesn't interest me .

MY QUESTION: How do you feel about e-books vs. Print books? Which do you have more of?

message 256: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kielianne) | 265 comments Caly ☯ wrote: "MY QUESTION: How do you feel about e-books vs. Print books? Which do you have more of? "

I will read either, but I have FAR more print books than e-books. E-books I tend to only read when I am traveling as it is easier to pack multiple books that way. Otherwise I read print books (or audiobooks). I also just like looking at my print books lined up on my shelves.

NEXT QUESTION: Once you have read a book are you more likely to keep it or get rid of it (via selling, gifting, donating, etc.)?

message 257: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1876 comments Hello! I am getting so excited to start this challenge again!!

I typically get rid of books either by passing them on to friends or on a swap site like bookmooch. I simply do not have the space to keep anything other than special ones. But I do tend to hold onto books until the series is finished in case I want to re-read when the next one comes out.

New question: what book or series did you put off reading for whatever reason, only to regret not reading it sooner?

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 143 comments Judith wrote: New question: what book or series did you put off reading for whatever reason, only to regret not reading it sooner? ."

My goodness there are so many to say, The Wheel of Time series, I read The Eye of the World (Wheel of Time, #1) by Robert Jordan back in 2012 and I never did continue on with it. I've been rereading with the plan to read the next book when I finish or at least with in a few books after I finish it.

New Question: What is the book that made you love reading?

Caly ☯ Crazy Book Lady New Question: What is the book that made you love reading?

I know that I was into books from an early age but I think the one or ones that hooked me for life was The Chronicles of Narnia (Chronicles of Narnia, #1-7) by C.S. Lewis by C.S. Lewis I still think it is one of my favorite series ever.

New Question: Do books made into movies usually disappoint you or are you okay with them?

message 260: by Anna (new)

Anna (annasweetrose) | 178 comments It depends on the book and if it adapts well to movie porn like I thought the first divergent made a really cool movie and I enjoyed it but I thought the movie Heaven is for real didn't do the book justice and I don't think the book did well on the Big screen

message 261: by Anna (new)

Anna (annasweetrose) | 178 comments I don't remember the very first book but the series that I couldn't stop reading and really made me want to read more is the o'Malley series by Dee Henderson

message 262: by Leslie Ann (new)

Leslie Ann | 341 comments Hi,
I am Leslie. This will be my first UNO challenge.Looking forward to playing.

The worst book I read last year was Truly Madly Guilty

I know it is a highly rated book. I just couldn't get over the whinny characters. I gave it 2 stars.

2 of my favs were: Stargirl and Feed

I am usually disappointed by books made into movies. Every once in awhile they turn out okay. I did enjoy the Harry Potter movies...thought the directors did an excellent job

message 263: by Louise (new)

Louise | 1282 comments I have never really enjoyed a movie that is based on a book if I've already read the book. The reverse is also true if I read the book first.

Next Question: Is there a book that you've read purely because everyone else has but have been disappointed?

message 264: by Diane Woods (new)

Diane Woods | 81 comments Kathleen - What is SOS Bingo?

NEXT QUESTION: If you could only read one genre of books for the rest of your life, which genre would you pick?

If I could only read one genre for the rest of my life, I would absolutely choose horror. I have loved horror books since I was 10 years old. If I had to choose a genre to NEVER read again, it would be romance. They all seem to have the same story and if I have to read the words "throbbing manhood" one more time, I will scream.

What is the book that made you love reading?

Ramona the Pest by Beverly Cleary. Once I realized that they had many more in the same area, I read a Ramona book at least once a week.

Next question: if you could go on vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Ghost in the Stacks Diane!!!FINALLY someone who dislikes Romance as much as I!

message 266: by Victoria (last edited Jan 21, 2017 01:08PM) (new)

Victoria | 387 comments I used to hate romance as well, but I've gotten hooked over the past couple years. Although, there usually needs to be strong subplot (mystery, paranormal, historical, etc) going on for me to really enjoy them. I tend to get annoyed when the romance is all that's happening.

Question: If you could go on vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

This is tough since I would like to go EVERYWHERE, but at the moment I really want to go to Machu Picchu. It's a place that's always interested me and over the last few years I keep seeing or hearing things about it and now it's all I can think of. I just haven't had time to go, but I'm thinking of making the trip this year. Next year at the latest.

****************************
NEXT QUESTION: If you could go back in time, when and where (and why) would you go?

Poor Fabio - he's never been the same since he got hit by a goose in the face while on a roller coaster ride. Guts all over his face - alas the poor goose died - the real goose that is - not Fabio.

I love romances - I love that I know what I'm getting - have been reading them since I was 14 -read the before and after I got married and been married for 40 years this year and I can assure you our romance was NOT Mills and Boon material - but I have always had the ability to realise that fictional romance is in the books and real romance is what you have right in front of you.

Caly ☯ Crazy Book Lady Abbie wrote: "Diane!!!FINALLY someone who dislikes Romance as much as I!"

That makes 3 of us Abbie!

Caly ☯ Crazy Book Lady NEXT QUESTION: If you could go back in time, when and where (and why) would you go?

I would love to go back in time to when Stonehenge was built and see how they did and what exactly it was meant for. I have always been fascinated by that time in history and by Paganism.

New Question: What book would you love to be a part of? To live in that world or time and take part in the adventure or story line?

What book would you love to be a part of...?
This sounds crazy, but I've always loved Gone with the Wind! I'd much prefer not to deal with the war and/or slavery, but the whole thing was just so romantic. Don't know how I feel about corsets & it's been quite awhile since I had that 17-inch waist....

New Question: What was your favorite big girl book with chapters and everything -- while you were growing up?

*off to stalk Augustus and Ty*

Ghost in the Stacks Haha!

I would off prefered Jack or Mark myself...but I guess will have have to go Elizabeth Bennett, Pride Prejudice & Zombie -Style!
