I have many pleasant memories of childhood ... probably what I cherish most is time spent with my mother and father ... a picnic in the park, or a visit to the zoo.

Doing the dishes ...

What a great question. I would go to my favorite store (Barnes & Noble) to buy books and all kinds of Star Wars paraphernalia because I'm just that much of a geek. I would also buy a pretty necklace and as much shoes and handbags as I could because..well I'm a lady and that's what we do.

Books, chocolates, a new winter coat (mine is 4 years old and starting to look "worn"), new leather gloves ... and if I had any money left over ... more books.

I'd use it for new carpeting in my living room. :)

This is going to sound completely nerdy but every year I look forward to Shark Week.

I love watching this as well.

To me 'freedom' is to be able to live life by what is truly in your heart.
January 25, Wednesday: If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake?

Being able to do and say as you please without fear.

Fear of failure. Fear of hurting someone. Fear of looking like a fool.

For me it has to be the Chuckles the clown funeral, where Mary could not stop laughing.

Hmm. I guess that for most people, we are aware of the consequences of mistakes. Some worse than others depending on the mistake. Also, we are imperfect therefore destined to make mistakes.

I was such a fan of Mary Tyler Moore. I remember watching reruns of the Mary Tyler Moore show and The Dick Van Dyke Show because I am not old enough to remember them when they originally aired. I think I what I remember most is her humanity and the charitable work that she did. She was inspiring and will be greatly missed.

Happy in retirement.
Happy in retirement.

I agree with BC. Six more years to go.

I loved all her works, but really enjoyed The Dick Van Dyke Show.

Not being oppressed by others. Thinking for oneself and acting accordingly.

January 30, Monday: What is the first major event you remember happening? (example: 9/11, assassination of Kennedy, etc) How did it affect you?

John Glenn's orbit of the earth. It was just sooooo exciting to be in the "space age." There seemed to be much more emphasis on math and science in school following that as well (or maybe I was just old enough to have more focus on those subjects).

For me it would also be Kennedy assassination. I would have been 7. I remember watching the funeral procession on tv.

The explosion of the Challenger. It really hit me hard because the teacher on board was from my home state of NH and one of my own teachers had been a candidate for the ride along. We all ran up and gave her hugs after.

I think the most memorable moment is the September 11 Terrorist attack. At the time I was working in mid-town Manhattan directly across the street from the Empire State Building. I remember seeing the smoke but I had no idea what had happened. Once the news came out I remember trying to make my way home since everything was shut down in NYC. My son was only 20 months old at the time. I remember being in shock at the people trying to get out of the city and my heart breaking for all of those that lost their lives.
