This book is really on "hidden gem" status as less than 200 people have rated it on goodreads, but Dreamland Burning is absolutely brilliant. Told in alternating perspectives, we travel between present day and 1921, during the period leading up to the Tulsa Race Riot. I learned so much about this time period and am still deeply shocked by the events.
The author explores a dark piece of history, but tells the story in a way that makes it clear we still need to grow as a society, that even one person can make a difference in the continuous struggle for equality. This topic is on the raise in the current political climate, making this all the more important!
I'll have to take a look at this one- eventually! I've got a rather large TBR pile right now. I'm also not feeling historical fiction right now, but it's definitely somewhere on my TBR list.

Though I expected a little more from this book and the ending sort of fell apart, the story is compelling enough and the book looks amazing. I really loved how the pages tarnished and blackened as August sank more and more into the world of The Wicker King.
