Haven't seen Ramayana. No memories either. Vividly remember Mahabharata. And have seen that DD1 Mahabharata - 94 episodes again in 2013.

How will culture and language be protected making it a separate country? Until they stop immigrants.
Last part seems true. And yeah extremists have the foremost role to play as usual.

Have moved from Riots to Rulers...
The current stalwarts are in picture now. Manmohan Singh, Sonia, Modi.

People are still fighting for this... and God knows till when it will continue!
Thoughts?
I'm on chap 28.
Will speed up from tomorrow.

I'm all for the hospital, but since it's India, even a hospital won't be safe. I think a power plant (thermal) would be good. It will help in electricity problem of UP.

Godhara- He said that it's not really clear who set those compartment on fire. In fact, sir even mentioned that it could be a fault of those Kar-Sevaks, implying that the fire was due to cylinder or something. I didn't know about this version. I thought that it was pretty clear who did this.
So Ayodha case was a very important event in the history of India. It changed the Indian politics for ever.
BJP wouldn't this big without it, nor Modi uncle.

No. No intent either. Why do you ask?"
I asked bcoz it was about the Bhopal Gas Tragedy. It does have some horrible scenes. It could have been a great movie, but they messed it up.

Well, imagine they succeed in a separate country plan somehow. First thing they will do is to ban immigration, make a great wall, ban people from a certain community. I guess that will save the culture, won't it ;)
Pak was built on the promise to provide the Muslim people a country where they wouldn't be subject to another community's oppression, and could live safely and happily. Well, didn't they succeed? Peshawar school attack didn't happen! People are completey safe there! It's all peace there. No girls are stopping from education. Lower muslim community is being treated very well. In short, all is good. Goal accomplished ;)

Anything is better than other people's involvement...huh.
I don't understand this hatred at all. So what if Hindi got chosen for national language and not Tamil? So what is few new people have arrived in your state that do not speak your language? So what if people from other state are getting jobs in your state bcoz they are more hard working? These all are such petty reasons to start such massive movement.
Ppl should learn adjusting and accepting. Otherwise we won't have anything in the end. First we will fight over religion and demand differnt nations on this basis. Then we will request a complete different nation because we speak different language than others in this country speak. Then culture. Then caste. Then resources. Then colour. Then eating choices. Then...
Oh it will only break the country into million pieces.

I think people of Punjab had to suffer a lot and still they are most jovial people. #PunjabiRocks

Same thoughts. But even a power plant or any other building might sprout communal feelings owing to the land dispute. I feel nothing of importance should be done there. Just let it be... or max, make a public park.

BJP wouldn't this big without it, nor Modi uncle."
The reason why Advani ji was pretty upset on not being given the PM post. He was the spearhead during Ayodhya times.... and yes it was very crucial shaping the future poilitics of India.

There is a slight mention of AB and Rajiv Gandhi's friendship (and rift), though without any mention of Bofors in this context.
Notice how Bofors is slightly mentioned and dusted off as a generic political thing...

Also notice, cities which have overcome these barriers are the most successful ones (without even a single exception!)
Mumbai Bangalore Pune Hyderabad Delhi.... Not an expert on this data, but ... you get the drift....

At least many in South could still speak and converse using Hindi.... how many such cases can you find about Tamil in North?
In fact, when there is that annual Cauvery water issue between Karnataka and TN, people in North are like -"why Madrasis are fighting against Madrasis?"
Without respect and compassion, you cannot dictate terms. It is bound to create reverse effect otherwise.
So what if Hindi got chosen for national language and not Tamil?
Similar case - when Sinhalese was chosen as national language of Sri Lanka. It created a big chaos. Anyways, we can never know what could have happened...
But one good thing is, it propelled English which benefited in many many ways to the whole of India.

Can't agree more on this. That partition havoc. Bluestar. Punjab was the eye of the storm in both cases.... And yet they rock!

In my opinion, it doesn't creates much trouble. In fact if you show some respect to the local language by atleast trying to learn (and even fail!), it makes them more happy and creates love instead of hatred.
Basically such steps don't give chance to extremists to brainwash common people.

Totally agree on this.
See the way America is ousting non Americans. For pretty much the same reason!

And so glad I've read *one* referenced book mentioned in this.
The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century

Ha ha ha. Precisely the reason Western journalists and writers keep pouncing on India's democratic failure.
One line from epilogue summarises their confusion.
"An Italian is as much different from a Scottish, as a Punjabi from a Malayali."
The beauty is we have been successfuly striving *with* these differences.
Might not be the case if we try eliminating these differences.
Whats the problem having multiple national languages, food choices, cultures... so many things... Whats the priblem in that?
We have proved these are only supporting unity, instead of breaking it.
Only in cases where people are forced to change *non-willingly*, problem arises!

Public park? Peace for few years, but then some new wannabe-Adwani will claim this piece of earth again, and it will take only hours and they will capture it. Problem again.
The only solution will be to make it such a place that humans can't approach it. Only that will solve the problem....lol.
PS: Do you think Adwani & Co. will be punished?

On chapter 29. Will come here once I finish it.

Not enough timeline to punish him on earth. I don't think any of those will be punished. Even if they do, those will be termed "martyrs" and spurn new chaos!

I think Glimpses of world history give enough intro about the world in general to appreciate/understand other history books better.
Great Phani. I'm gonna read as much non-fics this year as I can manage. Your company would be amazing.
Discovery of India is in my tbr.
Glimpses...History is 1100 page long. Gorab and I took more than 3 months to finish IAGandhi, which is just 700 page. Glimpses... would consume the entire second half of 2017 :P

I honestly think that if only more people read about Carl Sagan, the world would be much better place.
Me too for Sapiens.
Will watch the videos soon.
