Book: Unraveled by Jennifer Estep
Dates Read: 4/25 - 5/9
Rating: 5 stars
Review: Boy, was this a fun read (listen) for me. Sarcastic dialog and an old west theme park had me grinning all the way to the end. Gin and gang are on another "vacation" and it doesn't work out any better than the last time she tried to take one.
Unraveled is the 15th book in the Elemental Assassin series and picks up a couple of weeks after Bitter Bite concluded. Fin is still in a funk over everything that happened with
Deirdre and when an unexpected windfall/invitation arrives from Bullet Pointe he sets up a couple's retreat to the swanky resort. Needless to say, not all is what it seems at the resort and Gin and gang and pulled even further into "The Circle's" influence.
Overall, this was a winner for me and I really enjoyed it. I have an idea of who the mysterious head of the Circle is and hopefully will find out if I am right in at least a couple of books. But Gin has a new enemy and I'm sure the next couple of books will involve revealing all the Circle's member before the grand reveal. I only hope I am right. :-)

These books are always so much fun, but they also make me hungry. I want illustrations for all of Gin's recipes lol!

Still outstanding: Snarky, Kickass Hero, Series Finished, Available at Library, Kickass Heroine & Owned Not Read Yet.
Apart from the latest 2 shelves, you only need 1 review for each of the other shelves, I think.
Keep reading & posting reviews:D

Book: Sins & Needles
Date finished: May 8
Rating: 3 stars

The first half of this book was soooo good. Ellie and Camden are two flawed characters who make bad choices and they made me like them and want to read their story. We go back and forth in time between the present and their high school days and it was such a promising beginning of wonderful drama to come. Then the second half came and it was just so silly and outlandish. Basically Ellie and Camden go on the run from some bad guys, which could have led to exciting adventures but didn't. And the ending was ridiculous and came out of left field. I knew this was a trilogy and I could not figure out how the author was going to keep the story going. Now that I know...well, I was interested enough to read some spoilers. Maybe contemporary romance just isn't my thing :/

This is what we have outstanding (not including last two weeks):

Book: Cress by Marissa Meyer
Dates Read: 4/25 - 5/4
Rating: 4 stars
Review: Cress is the third book in the Lunar Chronicles series. Although the Lunar Chronicles series is billed for young adults, I've been pleasantly surprised at the quality of the stories and the writing.
This installment focuses on Cress; who we initially met in Cinder. We also get to have the entire gang in this one; which was fun to be able to reflect on the changes that have happened to each couple. I was glad that Cress and Thorne find each other. Each is the opposite of the other so their social dynamic was fun to read.
I think that Cress is my favorite of the series so far and I will be continuing with this series.

Book: Winter Halo by Keri Arthur
Dates Read: 5/4 - 5/13
Rating: 3.5 stars
Review: OK, I have to say that I am on the fence about this series. I loved Keri Arthur's Riley Jensen series but I am struggling with this one. Perhaps since Tiger (Tig) and Jonas are struggling as much with their attraction to each other.
I did like Winter Halo better than City of Light since our duo seems to be making "some" progress with the stolen children. However, we are left on a cliffhanger and will need to wait until the next installment to see if that issue is resolved.
My favorite storyline in the book is the one with Tig's little ones. They add some comic relief to a very series toned book and Cat is just too adorable.

Lover Mine by JR Ward

4 Stars
This book took me a while to get through, but it was still really good. During the last book Xhex was kidnapped by Lash during a rescue attempt for Rhevenge. Her and John Matthew's last encounter with her was not a pleasant one. This book picks up with John Matthew going out every night and trying to hunt down Lessers to try and find some clue about where she was taken. He's reckless and ruthless. Xhex is fighting physically and mentally with Lash just trying not to let him break her. The situation is not a good one at the beginning of this book.
Seeing John so emotionally dark and sad really made you hurt for him. He's been through so much and it was hard to read. The emotional moments in this book really got to me. There is so much pain and angst, and it was put on the page really well. I could feel their sorrow.
There wasn't a whole bunch of side stories in the book, which I really liked. A lot of the story focused on what was happening with each of the MC's.
With Payne's side story JR Ward describes perfectly the Scribe Virgin's failings in creating and maintaining the race. "Design a breeding program to weed out defects so that the race was strong. Face the enemy on the field on each and win. Have her many children serve her with love, obedience, and joy." She touches on the flaws of the Primal and Chosen, the war with the lesser, and any race when it comes down to worshiping a deity. JR Ward has a way of summing up a huge subject in a few well chosen words; I think that with several things in this series. From time to time she has a passage that truly resonates.
The fact that John and Xhex can't communicate verbally seems to make their bond stronger. It's like they have a psychic link. I love the way JR Ward finds other ways for them to communicate.
The ending of this book was so satisfying in a lot of ways. I finished with a sense of things being completed in the best way possible. I can't wait to find out what's going to happen in Payne's story!

Book: Silence Fallen by Patricia Briggs
Date finished: May 20
Rating: 5 enthusiastic stars!!
When I have a series that's I am in love with, there's always a bit of nervousness before starting the next book. Is it going to live up to my expectations? Is this the point where it starts to go downhill? Didn't need to worry as I genuinely loved every moment of Silence Fallen.
This story is told slightly nonlinearly and with shifting POVs between two characters which is different for the series but it worked for me. We are cast back into the vampire world which I prefer to the fae, and it was nice getting to know some of the side characters a bit better. I am surprised by how okay I was with Mercy being separated from her people the entire time and it's amazing what she can accomplish while (view spoiler)
There was also a little surprise twist thrown in at the end about one of the characters and I want to reread the story and see if I pick up any clues about it. There are some general comments about the character but nothing I recall that would give it away.
This was book reading bliss! <3

Wicked Abyss by Kresley Cole

5 DOES NOT DISAPPOINT stars!!!
Sian is a demon king in the realm of hell and he is cursed to take on a demonic figure that continually progresses to be more disgusting as time goes on. He was betrayed by his mate who was fae several millennia ago, and he has been desiring revenge and feeling heartbroken since.
Lila is the reincarnated mate of Sian and she is a fae princess. She doesn't remember anything of her past life. She is funny, resourceful, and strong willed. She was a very entertaining MC. I loved her potty mouth! Her many uses of the F word were very comical. Sian captures her and brings her to his realm with the plan to exact revenge against her for her past crimes. Due to the fact that she doesn't remember anything from her past life and she doesn't feel like she deserves punishment for something she didn't do, she fights back. She does everything she can to outsmart him and prove Sian wrong. She is not who he thinks she is. Things do not go according to his plan lol
This is one of my favorite IAD books so far. I will be the first to say Kresley Cole is one of my favorite authors. Her writing talent, ability to world build, and dynamic leads shine through with this book. If I could give more than 5 stars I would.
I freaking loved this book! I do enjoy an enemies-to-lovers tale. It was hard to experience the emotional struggle of the pair, but the payoff was so worth it. Kresley Cole really knows how to tell a story. I could feel the demon king's frustration and hardship with his warring emotions. I could empathize with the princess' exasperation with her simple desire to be respected and have her needs met. The whole story, even though very fantasy, was extremely relatable. I have no idea where the author is going to go with the whole epic battle at the end of the series, but she keeps surprising me. Every story builds more and more on the stakes. KC is AMAZING!!!
I need more... GIVE ME MORE!!!

Halfway done with the Steampunk book, it's not my favorite but chugging slowly along.
My fae pick is Storm Front. My re-read for the round though it's been 7 years so for me, that's pretty much a new book lol. Going to try for a re-read of the series and hoping book 16 will finally be out by the time I get there. It's been 3 years Butcher!!

God Save the Queen by Kate Locke

5 STARS!!!
As Xandra would say... Fang me that was good! This was a really great book. It was fast paced and kept me interested. It was in the steampunk category I guess because of the type of clothing and vehicles were still Victorian style. There was modern technology like guns, cellphones, and television, but several of the aristocrats still preferred the way things were when they were still human in the 19th century.
The MC, Xandra, is a half-vampire/half-human and a member of the royal guard. Her sister goes missing and she goes on a mission to find her. The plot keeps the action and mystery going from the very start. The MC is relatable but also a complete badass. I love how she's either eating or fighting.
The male interest in this book... ohhhh man. Vex was a very sexy and awesome hero. He is a strong fighter but gentle with Xandra. He is confident yet vulnerable with her. He takes good care of her when she needs it without being overbearing. He deeply cares for her and is completely sincere.
The vampires, werewolves, and goblins in this book were created by a virus that caused cells to mutate so they were mostly born instead of made. The aristocrats were the ones that are the sups in this story. Humans could carry the gene for it to be passed on to their children if they mated with an aristocrat to make a halvie child.
This book had several twists that I never saw coming. I couldn't anticipate the plot and it kept me on the edge of my seat. Things kept happening that I didn't expect that added so much to the story. I can not wait to read the next book in this series!

Book: Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
Date finished: May 30
Rating: 2 stars
Simply put, this book wasn't for me. I didn't care about the characters nor what happened to them. There was no excitement, just the let's get it done feeling. Glad it's over and have no need to continue with the trilogy.

Spoilers can suck, I tried really really hard not to give anything away about the series when I reviewed my Mercy book :)
