Great addition to a great series. Love this family of vampires and getting to see who the siblings end up with as mates. I also love getting to see how their powers will manifest when they reach maturity. Ian has his work cut out for him because Paige believes all vampires are evil, natural born or turned.
Great writing that pulls you in, great characters that you just want more of, plenty of twists, action and romance.

5 Dazzling Stars

I freaking love this series. From the very first book I was addicted, and couldn't get enough. I am so sad I have to wait until 2018 for the next book to come out. I don't want to say too much about what's going on in the story because of spoilers, but I will say that this book was just as interesting and obsess-worthy as the other four books.

I love Simon and Meg's story line. This series is the most extreme slow burn I've ever read. I love it and hate it at the same time. I keep screaming in my head, JUST KISS ALREADY!!!

I love all of the Others. They are so entertaining! The way Bishop makes their dialogue and inner thoughts so animal like is really amusing. The way they describe humans and their behavior is freaking hilarious.

This is a series that I feel anyone that likes any type of paranormal should read. It's one of my all time favorites. The story has so much to offer. There is lots of action, great MC's, awesome side characters, an interesting take on the paranormal, and a slow burn for the record books.

Review:

My first book by Samantha Young, I loved it and will be looking for more of her books.

Loved her writing style. Great main and secondary characters. Caine and Alexa had crazy chemistry and I loved their banter. I even loved neighbor Effie.
The story had just the right amount of angst where it didn't tip over the edge into being annoying for me. I thought Alexa was a strong heroine and very determined. Caine kept fighting his feelings for her but she knew what and who she wanted and went for it.
I would love to see more with best friend Henry

Sherri | 781 comments 2/1: Guilty Pleasures Shelf

Book: The Immortal Who Loved Me by Lynsay Sands
Dates Read: 2/11 - 3/29
Rating: 3 Stars

Review: This was an enjoyable read and a little bit of a reunion novel of the Port Henry crew. The main characters Sherry and Basil are likeable; just not memorable. The storyline was a bit odd and confusing with the introduction of Sherry's mysterious "friend/father/uncle" and the direction of this story plot was one of the main reasons this was not a sure fire good read for me. There are themes of mind control and rape, which will certainly put off some readers. It was a distraction I could have done without.

I would like to see less of the entire gang and more of the main characters. Although it is nice to revisit those characters it does detract from the main storyline and I feel takes away from the relationship building that occurs between the main characters. I find that believing these characters are in love is difficult with the limited interaction they have.

3/1: Futuristic

Book: Bonds of Justice by Nalini Singh
Dates Read: 3/8 - 3/21
Rating: 4 stars

Review: I really liked this installment of the Psy-Changeling series. The storyline was fresh and the main characters were fantastic. The take on justice Psy was unique and Sophia's character was very well written and conveyed a depth of character of an individual struggling to "live" with what remaining time she thinks she has available.

Max is a perfect complement to Sophia's character. His strength, combined with her feelings, totally balances this book. As with any Psy-Changeling book there are numerous story threads woven into it. The main story, in Bonds of Justice, does not center around the Psy conflict and I think this adds to keeping the series fresh for me. There is thread that deals with the Psy conflict but it is not front and center.

Overall, I forgot how much I enjoyed this series and will be working to catch up on it.

Shelf #9 (3/15) - Kickass Hero
Book: Silence Fallen by Patricia Briggs
Dates Read: 3/17 - 3/24
Rating: 5 Stars

Review: God, I love this series and I just have to ask "Why can't Patricia Briggs write more quickly?!?"

First of all, let me say that the change of location for the story was the winner for me. Also, although I love Adam, I enjoyed that Mercy was by herself and cut off from the back. It brought back memories of Moon Called and Blood Bound which were the original books that got me hooked on this series.

The timeline is a bit confusing, but Briggs does warn us of that fact at the beginning of the book. I found the quote at the beginning of each chapter helpful in placing each chapter in its proper sequence; so keep that in mind as you read.

Overall, the Mercy Thompson series remains highly enjoyable and the change of scenery and storyline POV's kept it fresh. I must read for all fans of the series!

After the letdown of book 3, I was afraid the series was going downhill for me but this book...I heart Blood Promise. Is it the most predictable book ever? For sure, but I still loved it. I was so much more emotional throughout this book than the previous one. Rose with Dimitri's family, that was utterly heartbreaking! And this new Dimitri, I am a fan of this version (not that I think he'll stay this way but it's fun to see for a little bit). As always, we get to learn a little more about the rare spirit wielders and shadow-kissed and it's totally fascinating. And the mysterious Abe, he is one I want to come across again in the future, so many secrets to unfold.

Review:
So I finally made it thru this book. This was an meh/ok read for me but not as bad as I thought it would be. Not really my genre but the blurb piqued my interest enough that I decided to give the book a read. I actually liked the writing and concept of the story, but I didn't care for the heroine. It's hard for me to fully enjoy a story if I don't connect with the characters. I liked the other characters ok. Olivia was past annoying and stubborn and just didn't want to give an inch. I understand that she was taken from her life and world but she knew of the agreement between Earth and the kindred. She was determined to fight bonding with Baird at all costs. There was too much back and forth, it went on too long and so by the end I really didn't care what happened with her.
I may even read the next in the series because I know there will be different main characters and I would only have to deal with Olivia as a side character.

I really expected more out of this book. I anticipated that I would really enjoy it because I loved her Legal Briefs series. I just felt that the whole story didn't have a genuineness that I appreciated in her other series. It seemed forced and just over the top.

The MC was so cliche and cheesy. He was a complete womanizer and wasn't sorry for it either. He was conceited, selfish, and his personality was sort of unrealistic. Over time he grew up and changed some, but then his grand gestures were completely annoying and it was so unbelievable.

"I was what my family had wanted and waited five years for. I was a little prince. I could do no wrong. There was nothing I wanted that I couldn't have. I was the most handsome, the most brilliant. There was no one kinder, no one sweeter than me. I was loved beyond words - doted on and catered to.
So if you think I'm arrogant? Selfish? Spoiled? You're probably right. But don't hold it against me. It's not my fault. I am a product of how I was raised."

How am I supposed to love a hero that thinks like that?

I get that this book was from a guy's perspective and the author is trying to make it feel real, but this book is so full of generalizations about men and their opinions. "Ladies, no guy ever wants..." or, "Ladies, a guy might tell you one thing but what he really means is..." And on and on it went. It was very annoying and most of it wasn't true from what I know about guys in the real world.

One thing I did like about this book was Kate. She was strong, smart, and funny. She was the shining light in the story.

I hate to say but I was not impressed. I won't be reading the rest of the books in the series.

Somewhere in this book I went from ooh, nail biting drama to let's just get this book finished and over with. I like Rose but I wanted to slap her a little more in this installment than previous ones. Things also got a little too unrealistic with the stuff she was able to get away with. Seriously, if Adrian can track her with a credit card purchase, so can everyone else. They weren't exactly smart about covering their tracks *rolls eyes*. I will say the book is action-packed and Dimitri is one of the high points for me. His character is awesomesauce in all forms and I do want to get to the end for some resolution. It's been a whirlwind of reading and with one left, fingers crossed the series ends on a high :)

This series was a roller coaster ride. Sometimes I loved Rose, sometimes she made me want to smack some sense into her. It was always an adventure. This is one of my favorite quotes:

ʺEighteen, and already youʹve been accused of murder, aided felons, and acquired a death count higher than most guardians will ever see...I couldn't be prouder.ʺ

As predictable as the last few books have been, there were a couple surprises for me this time around, including the identity of the murderer. The whodunnit/murder mystery aspect of this book was really fun and I enjoyed the moments at court seen through Lissa's eyes as well, probably more than I enjoyed the runaway Rose escapades.

The series ended as expected and while some things were wrapped up nicely with a bow others left me unsettled. One character summed up my issues pretty well:

"You got the guy and your happily ever after...but next time you're in bed with [name redacted], stop a moment and remember that not everyone made out as well as you did...There's been a lot of collateral damage along the way while you battled against the world."

There were a few characters who sort of disappeared from the book without resolution and I was a bit confused at first but I guess their stories continue in the spin-off Bloodlines. I don't know that I'm ready to dive into it now but perhaps at some point in the future.

I have heard mixed things about Bloodlines. It has to be hard to try and do a spin-off from a series that is so loved. I like the characters in it though so we will see. After I take a little break from the YA world :)

Noah and Olivia both work for a marketing firm that is owned by their fathers. They are to inherit the business but they have to marry each other first. The only problem is that they don't get along at all. Their interactions are very comical. The fact that they grew up together only compounds their dislike for each other. To make matters worse their company is failing and they are trying to save it together.

The story starts out really cute and it flows nicely. It's very easy to read. I didn't love this book but I didn't dislike it either. The story was good, but it didn't grip me like some books do. The situation they are in that forces them to get married is not very believable. I've read books before where people are forced into marriage due to business/inheritance reasons, and this author didn't execute this very smoothly.

I like the way the MC's personalities are total opposites. One is a passionate people person, while the other is closed off and socially awkward. Their differences compliment each other well. I just can't understand why Olivia is so adamant to keep herself physically and emotionally distant whenever Noah is giving her no reason at all to feel that way. If anything, he is doing everything he can to make her feel the opposite of that. He is trying very hard to be a great friend/partner. The author gives plenty of justifications for why she was behaving that way, but they just didn't make sense to me.

One thing I noticed is that there was the exact same paragraph at the beginning and the end of the book about a story of his friend and his prom date. I don't know how the editors missed that one.

It was an entertaining fun book. I read all three in this series in less than a week. It didn't help that they were like 250 pages each, but they were still enjoyable.
