Book: Jane and the Unpleasantness at Scargrave Manor (Jane Austen Mysteries #1) Stephanie Barron
Thoroughly enjoyed learning about the law and how it has changed since 1802. I really liked the footnotes in the book.

#31 Roll: 3
Place: Leicister Sq./ Atlantic Ave.
Task: read a book set in a country located on the Atlantic Ocean.
Book: Treason at Lisson Grove.(Charlotte and Thomas Pitt #30) Anne Perry
I have read several of the Pitt novels. I always enjoy them but this one was not one of my favorites. I felt the the plot was slow and even guessed who the culprits were before halfway through. My husband shares my enjoyment of the Pitt novels and he also found this one lacking. Anyone else read it?

Enjoyed this book! I will definitely read more in the series. Found the use of a real character as the main narrator very interesting. I also thought the description of the position of women at this time very appropriate. I try to relate to my 7 granddaughters how women have been restrained in years past. (The one description that always makes them shake their heads is that I had to wear a skirt (no slacks or jeans) to class in college even when the snow was over my knees).

I have always enjoyed Charlotte and Thomas Pitt books. My husband and I do not have the same tastes in books but this series has a mixture of both of our tastes so when we go on long trips we can listen to these books. This particular storyline was not my favorite but it did hold true to the Charlotte and Thomas series. Thomas was involved in a serious investigation at the home office at Lisson Grove. He even had to chase a suspect to France without notifying anyone. Charlotte is involved in domestic problems. Although these 2storylines seem miles apart they converge to form a story where both Thomas and Charlotte become involved in trying to save Thomas’ boss’ job thus saving Thomas’ job.

Enjoyed the book. I think that The Verity Kent Series would be interesting. I lik e the period after WWI. There is a shocker in this book that I did not predict which made the book fresh and interesting. Verity is a strong willed woman that has lost her husband in the war. Verity was also a spy in the war. So has learned to be self sufficent . Times are changing for women and Verity is ready to take advantage of any opportunities that come her way.
Very interesting location - Umbersea Island at the mouth of the Thames. Sounds like a perfect setting !

Book: A Useful Woman(A Rosalind Thorne Mystery #1) byDarcie Wilde
Inspired by the novels of Jane Austenthis Mystery is set in19th century London. This book introduces the charming and resourceful Rosalind Thorne who has known the loss of her family’s name, fortune and honor. Her father and sister ran away from London after her father lost the family’ fortune.Rosalind and her mother were left in London to face the society’s spurning.

This first book in the Rosalind Thorne Series is entertaining. I enjoyed the story of hor Rosalind faced adversity and learned how to take care of herself. She invented a profession of being an assistant to any woman that needed someone to help her steer through society’s mazes. The story of Almack’s and how it controlled the lives of the wealthy was interesting. Although Rosalind was ostracized by society because of her father’s betrayal she found a way to survive. The murder mystery was shocking in detail.
