jimmy Upon joining the group, please introduce yourself here with your name, pronouns, and whatever else you see fit!!

message 2: by jimmy (new)

jimmy I'm Jimmy, the main moderator/founder, and I use he/him pronouns. I'm poly- and pansexual. I like punk rock, making zines, and reading (as is obvious by me starting this group), and I'm passionate about intersectional feminism and queer rights. Feel free to talk to me about anything on or off group, I don't bite c:

message 3: by Casey (new)

Casey (alittlecoldoutside) | 5 comments Heya, I'm Casey! I'm a non-binary person from Ohio, they/them/theirs pronouns would be great, please. As far as sexuality goes it's more or less just ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ in terms of me just having absolutely no idea short of me not being heterosexual.

I'm not as much of a reader as I'd like to be but using this site helps push me towards reading at least a bit more and every bit helps. This group also seems like a good thing for me in that way. I received a copy of Laura Jane Grace's book for the holidays and have held off on reading it so it can count for my yearly challenge for 2017. Looking to hopefully dive into that and discuss with others pretty soon now.

Otherwise I'm not a horribly exciting person. I'm really into music (my first love), film, and video games. If you get me going I could probably go off about any of those for an endless amount of time. I've at times been called a connoisseur of LGBTQIA+ content in media by friends (as long as the representation isn't a mess I will consume absolutely any LGBTQPIA+ media I can get my hands on) but books have commonly been a blindspot. I'm hoping to really work on that more in the future!

Thanks to Jimmy for inviting me to the group. I look forward to participating in later discussions.

jimmy hey Casey!! you're gonna love ljg's book, it's so rad! what kinda music do you like?

message 5: by Casey (new)

Casey (alittlecoldoutside) | 5 comments That's a tough one, I'm not great with genres but I'd say that a majority of my favorite music is pop and/or indie centric. My top 10 releases of 2016 were by Mitski, Tancred, Solange, Told Slant, Against Me!, Beyoncé, G.L.O.S.S., Frank Ocean, Jimmy Eat World, and Bellows. Hopefully that gives a bigger picture than just me trying to describe with genres. I'm also still really partial to some pop-punk/pop-rock bands (The Academy Is... and Motion City Soundtrack especially) from like 05-08 as that's when I first really got into music and attended shows.

I'm always looking to listen to new things so if you ever have recs feel free to send them my way regardless of what they are. I'll try listening to anything at least once. I've branched out a fair amount from where I began in terms of genre and time frame with what I listen to but I still could improve much more.

What are some of your favorite artists/albums?

message 6: by jimmy (new)

jimmy Music is a tough one because I love so! much! stuff!
My biggest releases of this year were Andrew Jackson Jihad, Against Me!, frnkiero andthe patience, and DEATHSPELLS. I love punk and most genres surrounding that, but I'm more partial to classic pop-punk than more recent stuff. I also love love love folk punk!
Favorite albums of all time: Love Songs for the Apocalypse by Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains
Almost Killed Me by the Hold Steady
In Desolation by Off With The Heads
Left and Leaving by the Weakerthans
Reinventing Axl Rose and Transgender Dysphoria Blues by Against Me!
Feeding of the 5,000 by Crass
Rogue Taxidermy by Days n Daze

Sorry, got a little wild with my list but I love music more than about anything. Maybe we should start a separate thread?

message 7: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin (kerstinweb) Hey there! I'm Kerstin and I joined goodreads only today as a new year's resolutions thing. This group seems like a great way to keep reading more diversely and get involved so that I actually keep coming back to this side. ^^
I'm a cis girl and use she/her pronouns. My sexuality is similar to Casey's kind of a mistery to me, but I'm calling myself bixexual at the moment to see how the label fits.
Also I've been meaning to read We Are The Ants anyway, so I'm really looking forward to this month and group in general!

message 8: by jimmy (new)

jimmy Hi, Kerstin!! I'm excited to have you in the group!

~Akweley♡Mazarae♥~★☆★oblivion★☆★~I CAN'T BREATHE~ (nala13) Hey Hey Hey y'all, I'm Nadia, I go by she/her and they/them pronouns, anything's chill, and as for my sexuality, I'm just hella queer, lol xD xD I'm aroflux demipolysexual. Anything else to know about me? I'm introverted, very interested in different cultures, I'm a HS junior, I don't like sweets (except chocolate and I don't like dark), and I've kind of stopped reading lately because I haven't found anything I'm really into, but maybe this group will help! So heeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyy to errbody else *waves*

message 10: by jimmy (new)

jimmy Hey Nadia!! Glad to see you join! Hope we can help c:

message 11: by Spencer (new)

Spencer Sacrey (laurspensac) Hi! My name is Spencer. yes I know here it says a different name. because some of my friends on here don't know about my gender identity do yep. Anyway, my pronouns are they/them/ theirs. I'm pansexual and gender fluid as far as that sort of thing goes. I love horses music and Reading duh.

message 12: by Kristopher (new)

Kristopher | 4 comments Hey! I am a pansexual canadian reader. In the past I have enjoyed gathering many books and graphic novels that feature glbt characters. I lean more towards well written glbt Mystery/detective, fantasy, or adventure books. Right now I'm mostly supporting some clever lesbian detective series, partially due to troubles finding gay books also by male authors. My past favorite authors are the Baroness Orczy, Jules Verne, Farley Mowat, Thomas Harris, Steven Brust, Neil Gaiman, Laurie R.King, Anne McCaffery, Truman Capote, Alison Bechdel, and Gail Simone.

So Jimmy, intersectional feminism is essentially feminism with a focus on inclusiveness as to raise up its own minorities within the group to be recognized and heard as well? I am not sure if I've got the understanding down or if there are other main elements.

message 13: by jimmy (new)

jimmy hey guys!! i have definitely been slacking on saying hello!!
alek, what's your favorite book at the moment?
spencer, i'm sorry your friends don't know yet, i hope it goes okay if/when you tell them,
kris, that's essentially right! also, i can send you some recommendations of queer books by male authors. also, what are your pronouns?

message 14: by Kristopher (new)

Kristopher | 4 comments Jimmy, oh right, I'm a he. Sure! I do like fantasy and mystery books and find myself with a really big list of books with gay characters and I've got to go through them all for the not lady made(like yaoi), and not homophobic/stereotypical ones so I can track em down to read.
