Oh nice. I can't wait to read it. My work life is slowing down a bit. I have serious reading goals for 2017!

A very quick read. I have to say my only disappointment is that I did not realize it was more of a middle school rather than YA book. I loved how the ending wrapped things up. I will discuss more once everyone who is reading it is done

I requested

Cee Cee thanks for joining and reading. I was surprised how quickly I got through the book. Looking back I liked how we saw both sides of the bullying with Vasquez and his dad. I just found most the the characters so endearing. Even though it was a middle school book the way topics weren't too candy coated. I liked the honesty with the doctor and Lily's dad. Lilith should be getting the book soon so we can discuss more. I am not sure who else is reading the book.
Also, if there are any books you want to read go ahead and make comments on our bookshelf thread.

~from reading your previous posts it looks like I agree with you both about

and by the way - I love all the ones that you have on your 2017 agenda!
I still haven't received "Lily and Dunkin" from the library!! ARGH! I should have reserved it sooner. I didn't think it would take so long.
Cee Cee...regarding choosing books...trust me, we've chosen books that we've rated one or two stars. Sometimes you just never know...so don't hold back from putting input because you might feel bad! We read all kinds of books, some good, some bad...Also, if you're really interested in "The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake," I wanted to let you know, Aimee Bender is a phenomenal author...Her style is so unique. We read another book by her a while back called "The Girl in the Flammable Skirt." I rated it 5 stars. Just letting you know, if you're interested.
Welcome to the group!!!

Cee Cee, I just skimmed through your to-read list...
I noticed that you have a book on your list that is already on our bookshelf that we have not read yet...It's "Everything, Everything" by Nicola Yoon. We could always add that one soon if you'll be ready to read it some time after "The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake"...

I was wondering if anybody would be interested in reading Nicola Yoon's two books back to back. She just released a second book, The Sun Is Also A Star, which is really good reviews. I picked it up a few weeks ago from Amazon.

I would be interested in reading both at some point, but I usually get my books from the library and sometimes that means waiting a little longer for new releases until they are more readily available for check-out.
I already have

That would be great : )
I like the back and forth perspectives between Lily and Dunkin. It's really well written. Even when you read about a situation twice, from each of their perspectives, I find that it doesn't quite feel like you're reading about it again...It really shows you how differently each person thinks about the same situation. Something I think we all forget about often...,:P
Oh no!! Poor Lily! I hate how Dunkin is hanging out with these losers who pick on her! This is just awful!!
It's so sad that Lily cut her hair because of her father being a total bastard! And then even after cutting her hair was still teased at school!

I'm already 75 pages into Lemon Cake and loving it. I'm thinking I'll need to pace myself or I will have forgotten that one too by the time everyone else is reading it.
Still pondering suggestions to add to your to-read list as well...
I liked yer discussion between Lily's dad and the doctor about having an alive daughter or a dead son.
I thought it was sweet how Dunkin made his friends fall in their costume to protect Lily.
The Tree!!!

Oh don't worry about spoilers! doesn't bother me. I'm just over half way through...can't believe how long it's taking me to finish the book...I'm just not reading as often as I used to.
I'm on page 224. Almost finished! So far, I like it....It's a good book...although I DO wish the author focused more on Dunkin and his bipolar disorder. I was surprised she didn't, considering she chose to write a character with bipolar disorder because of her son who has it.
Books mentioned in this topic
The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake (other topics)All the Bright Places (other topics)
Fates and Furies (other topics)
The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake (other topics)
Great book to start off the year with!
Interesting piece of trivia I found...Donna Gephart had promised her bipolar son that she would write a book with a character in it that has bipolar disorder!
