1. Is there a way to add categories without the "for" that I'm not aware of?It looks like Κρατικό Βραβείο is the name of the award, and that the categories include (and others)

2. Should I leave these awards as is, until they can be combined properly?
I think they can be combined as in the thread linked above.
3. Should I create individual awards for the Second Place winners, while adding the shortlisters as nominees to the first place winners?
Personally, I think it would be better to make them nominees of the award, but designate in the category field that they are (2nd) or (shortlisted) - obviously whatever that would be in Greek.

1. Ah, thank you for that link! Yes, that is correct, but in Greek the preposition is implied by the noun's conjugation, so it both looks and reads really wrong when you see e.g. "Κρατικό Βραβείο for Μυθιστορήματος". If I change it to the "neutral" state, i.e. "Κρατικό Βραβείο for Μυθιστόρημα", I begin to wander from the award's title, though I wonder if that might not be best?

I think it would be better to accept the "for" because then all of the awards are together in one place. I like this approach because sometimes I want to see what other titles have won that award, and sometimes I find something I might not have otherwise. In the end, GR will be very forgiving, I think, if you decide another approach.

And I do think I should use the neutral state, as it makes more sense, even if the award title changes. In order to use the category function the title is changed anyway, so might as well have it make sense.
However, since I would be merging most of the current Greek awards, I'll hold on that for a while in case there are any objections after all.
One of the things you might consider, should you leave them as separate awards, is to add information in the award description about the others, and to provide links.When you have information in the award description, it also lets other librarians know that someone has worked on the awards, has given it some thought. Librarians will think twice before using a different approach. Also, I like providing a link to the award website. There is just so much we can do here, but linking to more information can be helpful to readers.

I will definitely be doing this. Question related to this: if the award is no longer being awarded, is it ok to link to a site that talks about it. In particular, I am thinking of linking to the National Book Centre (ΕΚΕΒΙ: a not-for-profit organisation set up and funded by the Ministry of Culture for the promotion of Greek literature in Greece and abroad).
More than one solution to the problem. Personally, I would combine them all, but I wanted you to see your options.You can put in the description, including links, to whatever you think will help readers best understand the award. You might include that the award ceased operation in 20xx with the link to the non-profit. (I'm pretty sure there are even awards with links to Wikipedia, so do what you think best with these.)

Elizabeth is our awards expert, and we are very grateful.
Unfortunately, in part, perhaps, because the system forces a "for" between award and category, all the different award categories have been created as individual awards, as seen here.
This particular award is further complicated by the fact that, before 1989, most of the awards had a first and second place winner, then just a winner, and since 2011 a shortlist has been published. (the longlist for this award is every book published in the year before the award that has been submitted to the Greek National Library).
Questions:
1. Is there a way to add categories without the "for" that I'm not aware of?
2. Should I leave these awards as is, until they can be combined properly?
3. Should I create individual awards for the Second Place winners, while adding the shortlisters as nominees to the first place winners? (Note: I know this is exactly what the manual says, however, shortlisters and second place winners have never been announced for the same year of an award)
