Kate (katebehr) Hi all! I'm trying to help my dad find a short story he read a while ago -- he thinks in the 70s. By his retelling, it's about a boy who's given the ability to see the future. He learns his brother will fall into a frozen pond and that he'll have to decide whether or not to save him. If he doesn't save him, he'll die, of course, but if he does save him, his brother will grow up to be evil. It sounds like a compelling story but I couldn't find it by Googling any of those details. It's possible he mixed up a couple of the specifics, but he usually has a pretty good memory for things he's read. Sound familiar to anybody? Thanks in advance!

Please note the bump period for this large group is 30+ days -- or sooner if you remember more information.

No worries. We realize different groups have different guidelines. This group is quite large and we want everyone's request to have a chance to be seen.

SBC (essbeecee) | 1594 comments I read a short story with a similar theme in New Amazons ed. by Margaret Weis (2000). The story was "Gifts of Wonder and Darkness" by Kathleen M. Massie-Ferch and it was about a woman who can tell that her unborn son is going to be evil and has to face a dilemma about what to do to help/stop him. Sorry I don't know the name of your Dad's story. Short stories are hard to track down!
