Nik Krasno | 19865 comments A friend of mine claims that having a book or two in your field of specialization under your belt can be leveraged into finding a better high-end job. For him it definitely worked and he attributes his success in improving employment largely to a published book not long before that. He's - non-fiction though.
Does writing help you in other fields? Opening some doors maybe? Brings publicity and attention to biz?

Tara Woods Turner | 2063 comments Yes! I write non-fiction and that will def help my consultancy. Among my peers it seems to impress them - and it should ha ha!

Justin (justinbienvenue) Uhh no but if your suggesting it does and its okay to humbly brag to get some doors to open for me then I'm making this a goal for next year.

Depends -:) I, for example, separate entirely my writing from law practice, for my stuff can raise some eyebrows among the clients -:) While some compatible stuff can be leveraged, like my friend did to find a new high end job and like Tara's expecting to do

Justin (justinbienvenue) Maybe if I wrote a book about football it would increase my chances of being seen by the higher up's of the stadium I work security at lol.

Nik Krasno | 19865 comments How about you have a friend heckle your boss like an author did to Ivanka and you spectacularly rein him in? -:) Doesn't contain literature in it? Well, you can write a story about it afterwards -:)

Especially if you get one of the higher ups to write a foreword or introduction to the book, arrange to have a release party at work and build social validation for the book through blog posts etc. it is workable.

Nik Krasno | 19865 comments Take Tara's excellent advice, not mine

Nik Krasno | 19865 comments Is being an author helpful in other spheres and can be leveraged to promote one's career? What do you think?

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8079 comments Writers have many skills that could be applied in other arenas: the ability to plan ahead, to think outside the box, to express yourself coherently, to manage your time, to be disciplined and self-directed. And being a good writer would definitely help on job applications.
