j a m m e s (thepanbigensister) Thanks, now what ideas do you have?

message 3: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Um. I kinda wanted to do a roleplay where both boys were handicapped in some way. Like where one boy was deaf or something and the other boy was mute. Something like that and they kinda help each other through high school because they are really the only one's who know sign language.

message 4: by j a m m e s (new)

j a m m e s (thepanbigensister) Sure, I can do that :)

message 5: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Yay! Okay. Which handicap would you prefer you OC to have?

message 6: by j a m m e s (new)

j a m m e s (thepanbigensister) Mute, I want him to be Mute, is that okay?

message 7: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Yeah, that's fine. Mine will be deaf.

message 8: by j a m m e s (new)

j a m m e s (thepanbigensister) Alright, shall we make our characters then?

message 9: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Yeah. I'll have mine up soon.

message 10: by j a m m e s (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Whitley took a deep breath and ran a hand through his hair. He didn't want to be here. It was a new school and here he was, arriving in the middle of the year in the middle of the day. But ya know, he couldn't do much about it. "Goodbye, Mom," he signed before getting out the car, leaning in to pick up his backpack. He slammed close the car door and then waved to his mom before walking inside. Whitley walked slowly and quietly to the front office. "Hi. I'm Whitley. I'm new here," he told the woman at the front desk. He wished he could sign. Even though he could speak despite his loss of hearing, he preferred to use ASL instead of speaking.
The woman looked up and smiled at him, glancing to the side as someone else came in. "Hi, Elliot. Late again?" she asked him in passing but didn't wait for an answer. She looked at Whitley again and stood up. "Okay. Come with me and we can get your schedule then get you to class before it's too late," she told him and gestured for him to follow.
Whitley just stood there though, not moving, sure he looked like an idiot. He could only pick out a couple words upon attempting to read her lips and those were words like "me" and "with". He glanced around, blushing lightly, feeling like a fool. "Uh, ma'am," he called, trying to not be too loud but he clearly couldn't tell too well. "I'm deaf. I cannot understand what you're saying. I'm sorry," he explained then apologized, feeling like he was obligated to. Because clearly, it was his fault he couldn't hear.

message 17: by j a m m e s (new)

j a m m e s (thepanbigensister) Elliot had waved goodbye to his brother when he dropped him off, he had headed up to the school and went inside after another kid had walked in, he followed the kid to the front office and just watched him talk to the secretary of the school. Elliot had just did a two finger salute when the woman spoke to him, he has always been a little late to school because he can never get up that fast in the morning. Elliot sat down in the chairs since he would have to wait until the woman was finished with the boy, but he noticed the boy and realized that the kid was deaf, he stood up and grabbed a paper wrote something down for the woman to read. He walked over and handed her the paper, to which it says:

I can help with this kid, I know sign language, just tell me what you need to tell him and I can translate it back to him

message 18: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments The woman smiled at Elliot and nodded. "Just tell him to follow me so we can get his schedule. And if you, Elliot, come also and take this young man to his class and help him around, I'll allow you to have a free pass on the tardy," she told him, walking back over to the young men and watching as Whitley as he shuffled around. She hadn't realized he was deaf. "And tell him that we will try to accommodate him in every way possible and I'll let all his teachers know about him being deaf," The woman added.
Whitley looked over at the other boy who had come in after him and watched him write something down on a piece of paper and show the woman. He wondered if something was wrong with him. No, not wrong. Whit had learned that being handicapped or disabled did not mean something was wrong with you. So he had more sympathy for others like him. He watched them and sighed softly, hoping that someone was going to help him.

message 19: by j a m m e s (new)

j a m m e s (thepanbigensister) Elliot nodded and smiled a bit, he followed her over to the other boy and stood in front of him, he waved slightly, " I'm Elliot, but you can call me El," Elliot signed as he awkwardly stood in front of the new boy. " she wants you to follow her so that you can get your schedule, she also wants you to know that they will try to accommodate you in every way possible and that she'll let all your teachers know about you being deaf," Elliot sighed, he smiled the entire time so that the boy didn't feel scared or weird. Elliot didn't speak, it wasn't that he didn't want to speak, he physically couldn't speak because his vocal chords hadn't grown in properly and so he was left with mutism. Elliot looked over at the woman and smiled, he grabbed the same paper and wrote down, I will gladly help him out around school, he then looked back at the boy.

message 20: by Xavier (last edited Dec 27, 2016 02:20PM) (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Whitley smiled, genuinely smiled, over the fact that someone knew sign language too. He had someone he could properly talk to. "I'm Whit. Thank you for telling me what she said. I appreciate it," he signed back, curious about Elliot but knew it wasn't right to ask that after just having met him. Whit looked over at the woman and nodded at her. "I'll follow you," he told her. Whitley smiled one time at Elliot, not sure what he would do. So he just gave a sort of goodbye and followed the woman to a nearby room, waiting in the doorway as she looked through something for what he assumed was his schedule. He shuffled his feet and glanced behind him, looking a round. Whit shoved his hands into his pockets and gave a light smile when the woman stood up, walking over to him with a paper in her hands. Whitley made out the word "here" and took the paper, looking over it. So he was supposed to be in math class right now. Huh. Whit hated math. A lot.

j a m m e s (thepanbigensister) (( sorry, I've been busy ))

Ethan decided to stay where he was until he was needed, he messed around with his backpack straps and soon started playing around with a piece of paper on the woman's desk, his arm accidentally hit the woman's pencil holder and it fell onto the ground with a loud thud, while the pencils and pens all clattered on the hard linoleum floor. Ethan mentally cursed himself and dropped onto all fours, he began to pick up the pencils and pens before the woman and Whitley came back, he didn't want to get into trouble for touching something that wasn't his.

message 23: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments ((I thought his name was Elliot...))

Xavier moved out of the way as the woman gestured for him to follow and he did as he was bade. He followed her back front, golfing the paper in his hands. Xavier looked to the side and saw that the boy, Elliot, had captured the woman's attention. He appeared to be cleaning up what seemed to be a mass evacuation of pens and pencils from a cup he guessed had been on the desk.
The woman sighed as she saw Elliot and she bent down to help him. "I need you to take Xavier to Ms. Gardners. He has Algebra II. I'll right you an excuse note for being tardy," she told him and then stood, grabbing a stray piece of paper and writing a quick note for him. "You better help him today. Don't leave him hanging," she said to his, giving him a stern look.

j a m m e s (thepanbigensister) (( sorry, I have lots of male characters walking about on this site, I forgot their names sometimes, also I'll reply soon, I don't feel well at the moment and can barely move around without coughing like I'm dying, so I'll definitely reply soon ))

Xavier | 912 comments ((It's fine. Get better.))

message 26: by j a m m e s (new)

j a m m e s (thepanbigensister) (( Only just realized this but it's Whitley not Xavier ;) ))

Elliot only blushed sheepishly and nodded at the woman, he turned to Whitley and smiled softly, "I'll take you too your first class since I have it too," Elliot signed as he took the note from the woman and stood up straight after he finished helping her pick up the pens and pencils. He then came closer to Whitley, he smiled again, he didn't like smiling so much, it hurt his face, but he didn't want to see rude and so he didn't stop.

message 27: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments ((Of course. -_- I just had my name changed in real life so I keep writing Xavier. xP))

Whitley nodded, sucking in his bottom lip and hooking his thumbs in his backpack's straps. He looked to woman and signed the shorthand for 'Thank you'. Whit wasn't sure if she knew what he saying but he smiled lightly at her before looking back at Elliot. "Lets go," Whit signed quickly to Elliot and ruffled a hand through his hair before returning his hand to the strap. He hated that he couldn't talk to anyone at the school. Yeah, he could talk to Elliot but how was he supposed to know if he thought he was a weirdo or something and didn't want to talk to him more than necessary? Whit would love to hear himself but as far as he could remember, he never had heard it. He had been deaf since he was a little boy, the victim of an attack at the university his mother had been attending when he was young, very young. The classroom he had been in with his mother had been bombed and Whitley's eardrums had been destroyed after which he could no longer hear.

message 28: by j a m m e s (new)

j a m m e s (thepanbigensister) (( when you say you had your name changed in real life, do you mean real life real life or you just changed your username real life? Because if it's the first one that's really cool! ))

Elliot nodded and looked at Whitley, "Follow me, I have Algebra II as well," Elliot sighed as he did a two finger salute to the woman and then motioned for Whitley to follow him, oh how wonderful it would be if he could just talk normally to people, but his father had said that he'd never be able to speak because they couldn't do vocal chord transplants. Elliot sighed softly, that was the thing, Elliot could do anything else, he could grunt, groan, moan, sigh, hmpf, and make many other noises that didn't involve voice and that bothered Elliot terribly. He began walking towards the doorway of the office, wanting to and needing to get out of there quickly.

message 29: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments ((I had a real life legal name change. I'm so excited about it! I've been waiting a couple months to see if it would go through.))

Whitley nodded and followed Elliot out of the office and into the halls of the school, trailing closely behind him as he went to what he guessed what Algebra II. He stuffed his hands in his pockets and let his eyes wander around and about the school's halls as they walked. They were a typical white with all kinds of posters and signs hanging up. Whitley hoped that here, despite his deafness, he would be able to make friends with people who didn't look at him with constant sympathy. He and his mom had moved to another state to escape it all. No one seemed to ever look at him with a happy face his whole life, or at least since he lost his hearing. It drove him insane and they moved hoping to get a fresh start.

message 30: by j a m m e s (new)

j a m m e s (thepanbigensister) (( OMG THAT IS SO COOL! I WANNA GET A NAME CHANGE! ))

Elliot felt like it was his fault he couldn't talk to anyone, he felt like he was in fault that his vocal chords didn't grow in properly, he sighed and stuffed his hands into his front jean pockets as he walked in front of Whitley. Very few people said hello to Elliot as he passed them, and few waved at the new kid, a smile on their faces, people knew that if anyone hanged with Elliot it normally meant that kid was special too, and not the kind people made fun of, the kind that people found cool and amazing. The kids at the school were very welcoming despite the other schools around town, they were all used to new kids like Whitley coming in and then leaving because some jerk decided it was good to ruin the kids lives, Elliot was going to make sure Whitley was protected, either by him or his very few friends that he had.

message 31: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments ((Thanks! ^_^ I'm genderqueer but I lean much toward guy than my physical appearance of female. For me, it was a huge boost in confidence, my name change.))

Whitley smiled faintly at those who greeted him upon passing. Oh, how he longed to hear their voices. "Elliot," he said softly to gain his attention. Once he had his attention, he began to sign. "Would you mind if I sat with you in class? Since I don't know anyone else and ya know," he paused to gesture at his ears in reminder of his handicap, "I can't really hear the teacher." Whitley finished signing, a sheepish expression making it's way to his face as he looked over at the other teen. Whit didn't want to just walk in blind and be stuck with someone who more than likely couldn't sign and wasn't much help to him. What Whit hated most about deaf was that he was completely dependent on other people in school. He couldn't listen to lectures and take notes as they spoke, he could only write down what was already written down for him on the board.

message 32: by j a m m e s (new)

j a m m e s (thepanbigensister) (( that's amazing, I'm agender and I really want a name change because my name seems too feminine for me and I want a gender neutral name like Jay, it's basically just a nickname right now, but I hope that someday I can get my name legally changed to that, I use it at school anyways and nobody seems to mind ))

Elliot turned when he heard his name being said, he watched Whitley sign and smiled softly, he nodded, "Of course you can, I have a friend named Jessie, she's learning sign language, she sits at my table, so she can help you as well if I'm never here," Elliot said with a small smile as he turned forward and saw the classroom becoming closer and closer.

message 33: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments ((Well, I hope it works out for you. ^_^ I get how important it is.))

Whitley nodded and raised his hands to sign again but dropped them when Elliot turned back around. "Okay, thank you," he said out loud. He bit his lip hard as he realized the were approaching the class room. Whit knew they would be walking in in the middle of class so he could imagine that everyone who stare at them at least for a little bit. He understood the feeling when a new kid walked into class, especially someone like him. Whitley took a deep breath. He wondered if the silence was just a deafening when you walked in during class like that for someone who could hear. He reached up and tugged at his earlobe, a bad habit he had acquired as a panicked young child that was not yet accustomed to not being able to hear. He pulled as if it would help him hear but all it did was turn his left earlobe a bright red and he forced himself to stop before he started freaking out like he always did.

j a m m e s (thepanbigensister) (( thanks :) ))

Elliot felt an odd tingling sensation when they approached the closed classroom door, he sighed softly and reached out to grab the door knob, but before he did the door opened and a student walked out with a sickening look on his face. Elliot frowned at the kid and watched as the kid disappeared around the corner, he shrugged and motioned for Whitley to follow him inside, to which everyone in the classroom turned and watched them. Elliot ignored the stares and walked up to the Teacher with a straight face.

message 36: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Whit followed Elliot slowly inside, trying to look around the room and the other students discreetly but knew he had failed at that. He stayed quiet though and stood behind Elliot, trusting he wouldn't say anything stupid about him. He didn't think he would but it was hard to know how someone you just met felt about you as a person as a whole. Did Elliot think he was dumb? Who knew? Not him certainly.
Ms. Gardner looked up as the two teens walked into her class. She knew that Elliot was late but she didn't know the other young man, so she assumed that he was new. The only assumption that she could make. "Good morning, boys. Elliot do you have an excuse note?" she asked in reference to his tardiness. Ms. Gardner then looked over at Whitley. "Hi. What is your name?" she asked him but was confused when he never answered her. Then it clicked. If this young man was with Elliot, he was probably like him in the sense of a handicap. Good morning, she signed. Ms. Gardner was the only teacher who had made any effort to make things easier on Elliot when he arrived by learning to sign. At that moment, she hoped this new kid knew it also. I'm Ms. Gardner. What is your name?, she asked him.

message 37: by j a m m e s (new)

j a m m e s (thepanbigensister) Elliot only gave the woman a smile, he handed her a note and nudged Whitely when the woman began to sign, "She's the only Teacher who's made an effort to learn sign language," Elliot signed before he allowed Whitley to answer the woman. Elliot saw his friend and walked over to his seat, she began to enthusiastically sign to Elliot, asking him many questions about the new kid, people were watching the two and were becoming dizzy because of the hand gestures.

message 38: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Whitley let a genuine smile slide onto his face as Ms. Gardner began to sign to him. He found himself excited that he could talk to at least one of his teachers. He bit his lip and began to sign. My name is Whitley. I'm new here and I'm deaf, he signed, his fingers deftly forming the letters and signs he needed to communicate. Is it okay if I sat with Elliot since he knows sign language? he asked her, hoping she would allow him. He didn't see that she wouldn't but you never knew how someone would respond to something.
Ms. Gardner nodded and she wrote his name down in her attendance boom before telling him to sit in the seat next to Elliot's one that had always been empty.
Whit sat where he was directed and placed his backpack on the ground beside his seat. He sighed softly as Me. Gardner began to teach again but since he couldn't hear, he just copied down what was on the board and hoped that he would understand it all later when he had to review it for homework. Because there was always homework in any math class.

message 39: by j a m m e s (new)

j a m m e s (thepanbigensister) Elliot told Jessie everything he knew so far about Whitley, and let's just say she was very enthusiastic to meet him herself, so when said kid sat down next to Elliot, she grew very excited and was about to ask him so many questions when she was stopped by Elliot. Let him adjust Jess Elliot sighed as he gave his friend a smile, she smiled back and nodded before signing to Whitley, Hi, I'm Jessie, but feel free to call me Jess or Essie Jessie said before she pushed her notes towards the boys so that they could copy down what they had missed. Elliot smiled thankfully and dug around in his backpack for his math notebook and a pencil, finding both he opened his notebook to the next blank page and began jotting down the notes from Jessie's notebook.

message 40: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Whitley looked up when he saw Jessie's hands begin to move in the corner of his eyes and caught most of what she said. Nice to meet you, Jess. I'm Whitley. You can call me Whit, he replied then smiled graciously as she gave him and Elliot her notes to copy. He turned his attention to the notes, quickly writing them down in his typical chicken scratch writing style. Whit rested his forehead on his hand as he propped it up on his desk, his fingers slicing into his hair. God, he hoped he could make friends out of these people, he really did.

message 41: by j a m m e s (new)

j a m m e s (thepanbigensister) Elliot smiled softly as he watched Jessie and Whitley, he went back to copying Jessie's notes, he finished and looked to the board, he began copying whatever the Teacher had on the board and then decided to rest his eyes. Elliot didn't entirely have many friends in school, and the very few he did have had to have Jessie translate everything for them because they couldn't understand Elliot.

Xavier | 912 comments Whitley sat on the end of his couch, his knees pulled up to his chest. He smiled and laughed out loud at the movie he was watching with Elliot. He had invited Elliot over so that they could do a project for math together but they ended out watching a movie. Albeit, it was a little difficult for him since he couldn't hear but he watched the subtitles and laughed at the jokes. He and Elliot had been friends for about five months and he was really comfortable with him at that point. "Ellie-" he called him that just to annoy him. "That was funny right and I'm just not crazy?" Whitley asked for clarification, smiling widely at him. Whit had completely opened up to Elliot the past few months the actual him, the insane, goofy, boy that didn't care he was deaf, had come out to greet him.

message 49: by j a m m e s (new)

j a m m e s (thepanbigensister) Elliot had been hanging out with Whitley for five months, they've also been friends for five months as well, he smiled as he watched the movie with Whitley, he didn't quite enjoy the many sounds that came from the movie but he enjoyed it nonetheless. When Whitley turned to him and asked him and asked a question, he smiled and nodded, ' It was very funny, you're not crazy ' Elliot signed, he hated when Whitley called him Ellie, but he didn't care anymore, he was actually growing accustomed to it. Elliot loved their friendship so much, especially when his father started becoming close to Whitley as well, his family was still a bit iffy about Elliot himself but his older brothers and his father quickly warmed up to Whitley without hesitation, despite the fact that it was a little hard for them since they could all hear and talk and well Elliot just loved how his family welcomed Whitley.

message 50: by Xavier (new)

Xavier | 912 comments Whit smiled happily and playfully fell against Elliot. He loved teasing him and annoying him. "So, um. Are we actually gonna work on the project today or we just gonna watch movies? Cause, I'd much rather watch movies but if you want to work, we can," Whit inquired. He tipped his head back so he could meet his eyes from his position of his head being on Elliot's arm. You could tell he was comfortable with Elliot and enjoyed his friendship because he actually talked more when they were alone and he acted like a 5 year old with him. He didn't hide in his shell that he reserved for the public and school and instead let himself relax and be himself. Whit turned his gaze back to the tv as he waited for Elliot to answer. He didn't attempt to move but if Elliot wanted him to, he would have.
