End of ch9 (view spoiler)[ The very last line of ch9 gives us that precognitive remark that Will and Devlin will never see home again as they drive away. I tend to like this kind of foreshadowing - do you? Stephen King does it a lot in his books also. (hide spoiler)]

Yes, I do like foreshadowing. I think it was the best thing to do; steel off in the middle of the night. How sad though that he had to abandon everyone and his family. The place they live at now sounds amazing! I know what u mean about the agent, but she did show him her credentials. Still, I get an eerie feeling that things are not going to go good from here. I'm worried about his daughter and her safety. I stopped at ch16. The audio book is good. Great narrator.

I wasn't thinking it was the greatest idea that he took off, until he gave his reason to the agent. Made perfect sense then, and I agreed with it then. I think you're right with the eerie feeling...

DAMN this is good! I'm on edge! Stopped at ch21 I think. (view spoiler)[so the agent turned out to be a fired agent who has a personal vendetta. Very good. Didn't see that coming! Did you? And the balls she had to get Havier...that was genius! You think he wud of caught on to something like that since it is his own formula. Can't believe they left him there like they did out on the trail. This guy is a criminal! You don't leave him out of your sight! Big mistake and now he's got away.... (hide spoiler)]

I made it to ch21. You're right, too (view spoiler)[ they're going to end up regretting that The criminal got away, especially since he's a part of that special alpha drug group. And I didn't see Kalyn's story coming, either, although I didn't (and still don't) trust her. (hide spoiler)] Also, we're a quarter of the way through, and no snow yet. At some point, I assume the story is heading north.

I hope you are wrong about Kalyn. I want so much to like her. And I was wondering about the snow too and what snowbound means in the book.

I ended up finishing it last night (another no sleep night). I liked it and was surprised (view spoiler)[ with the twist that Kalyn was involved with Javier all along, that it was all a setup for them to disappear - although I do guess that the part about saving her sister was real. I did have two issues that kept me from going with the full 5 stars though. First, there needed to be an explanation as to how Will survived those wolves. In the freezing temperatures and the attack by that many wolves, I just dont' see how he made it, and with only minor injuries that didn't even bother him later. The other issue was with the idea that with this house full of imprisoned women and the guests taking advantage of them, that there were only the two brothers and one or two guards running the show! I kept expecting more guards to show up. Otherwise, I enjoyed the characters and the action, and the story kept me guessing throughout. (hide spoiler)]

I knew we'd see Havier again. The talk about the baby between Rachel and Will was hard to swallow. I guess I wud expect them all to be a family again, but there are some hard questions to answer before that can be accomplished.

Hard to imagine actually being in that position and trying to work through all that. Would you ever feel the same again? I would hope it would work out for them, too.

It just bugged me that she kept asking him why he didn't remarry....I mean, I wud want him to be happy but the selfish part of myself wud hold out hope that he wouldn't and that one day he'd find me again...idk though. It's hard to put myself in her position and know what it was she endured for 5 years including having 5 pregnancies.

She must have convinced herself that he would move on. I could understand if she felt detached or distant moving forward, at least for a while.

Wow! Twist and turns til the very end. I like that! Blake Crouch usually delivers and I am not disappointed. I had to listen to all the action that went down a couple of times. I dozed thru some of it, mostly cause I'm tired and then I wished I had the actual book with me. The Christmas scenes were interesting. What was ur take on that? I think it helped set up for the whole cell phone scene and I quite enjoyed them after all that action. My mind was blown when he realized that Kalyn and Havier were working together. Which means kidnapping him was part of the show and explains why it was so easy and why he got away. The end was pretty awesome. Leave it to Kalyn. She's a badass! He shud use her in another book.

I started and finished it yesterday. Wow, it really moved. (view spoiler)[ Surprised a bit about Kalyn's sell-out. Or was she always going to let Will and Devlin go? And she got cut-up a bit by one of the bad guys. A lot, actually. And how did she get the money from the FBI? Guess things don't always have to be wrapped up neatly. <\spoiler> (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I think the part with Kalyn selling out Will and Devlin to the guys at the house was real because of her situation, and she did get caught. The only person she had the deal with was Javier, so that part and the fight with the other Alpha was also real and could have turned out bad for her. I had assumed that the money she spent with the FBI was done when she was still an agent, before they knew she was spending it on her own case rather than what she was supposed to be working on. It all had to work out just right for her - which it did. (hide spoiler)]

I think you're right. I think the Christmas scenes did set that up. Kalyn definitely was a badass, especially considering that knife fight, too. I was glad with the way it ended for Javier, too. He earned that!
