Lou Ann | 5 comments Can someone help me find a book that my mother read ten to fifteen years ago ? It was about a power outage over several states. Generators wouldn't work. People had to use bicycles as transportation. People stole food from gardens. It was about a family of four. The daughter was in college and her boyfriend worked for the power company and he eventually solved the power outage. This book was really good about not taking things for granted. This book was written in modern times. Some people have mentioned Terry Blackstock but this book was not Christian fiction. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you so much !

Martini (shakenorstirred) | 215 comments Which are the "several states" that you mention?
In this book several states of Europe are affected: Blackout. Can't remember anything about the characters though.

Goodreads lists this book as 2012, so probably to late, but to give some idea, the book warns about the internet-of-things and the MC finds a software flaw in one of his mandatory installed devices and tries to alert the authorities, and then to help them solve the problem after the Blackout.
Recommended 4 stars - my review.

Ingo (ilembcke) | 669 comments And just to add it to the list, not recommended, from nearly the same time (2013)
CyberStorm by Matthew Mather CyberStorm
not recommended from me, 3 star-Review.
Main reason for reading this, was that it cost me nothing extra (included in Amazon Prime), also it was rumored to be filmed, but I cannot honestly see what good would come of it. There are way better books to be filmed, imho.

Also, the mentioned story-points are not there, this is also true for Blackout. So, having read both, I am pretty sure, these are both not the searched for book.

Lou, did you rule out all the books suggested above?

message 10: by Lou (new)

Lou Ann | 5 comments Yes I have. I even looked through the link someone posted that had 66 books listed! None of the books were the right one. I'm about to give up! Lol

Lou Ann | 5 comments I know that it isn't a book about the future or the end of the world. Nothing scary either. The cover also had to appeal to my mother which would be a pretty and innocent looking cover! Lol. Hard to explain. She read it ten to fifteen years ago.

A guess - Overload (1978) by Arthur Hailey?

(https://www.worldcat.org/advancedsearch > Keyword: power outage | 1970-2009 ? | Not juvenile | Fiction | Book | English)

What caused the blackout (e.g., technical defect, poor construction, human error, computer error, terrorist attack)? Is a nuclear power plant involved?

Are the parents in the family famous/rich/powerful?
