Ladies and gentlemen,
Manju and I are taking over this thread for a while for our Mera Parivar BR.

Hello Manu!

message 202: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm 33% done. Finished "Atmika" and "Neelkanth". Too good to be real :P

message 203: by [deleted user] (new)

But again it raises the question of animal captivity, even though they were happy :/

I don't remember any "Atmika" even though I believe we read the same Kindle version. Are you talking about the introduction?

Arpit wrote: "But again it raises the question of animal captivity, even though they were happy :/"

Considering the times it was written, may be animal captivity wasn't considered as cruel as it has become today.
Not very sure about forcing animals either because they willingly flocked around her (ya they didn't have much options either!)

The animal emotions, moods and dynamics portrayed remained the high point for me in every story.

Looking forward to discuss them all with you guys :)

am reading two stories per day. Atmika did not impressed me much except in end but Neelkanth was awesome right from the start. Names of pets are so cute and the way they treat Mahadevi turns me green with envy.

Whats Atmika about?

Mahadevi's initial days at hostel and how she discovered a garden nearby. there she saves a chick from being butchered and served as dinner.

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3765 comments Mod
Oh yeah... I remember reading it as intro. But was confused thinking it is about one of her pets,... and "Atmika" is the pet's name. Thx!

message 212: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished the bitter-sweet tale of Sona, the deer.
G, all the tales are sad-ending?

Wait till you read Gora.

message 214: by [deleted user] (new)

Have read all the stories. Loved them.
Gora, Neelkanth, Sona, Gillu, Rani, Roji....loved all of them.
Didn't like Durmukh. The character, not the story. Nikki and Neelu were okay.

message 215: by [deleted user] (new)

It's hard to believe that such type of relation could exist between human and animals! It's really touching. The way author treated them with such kindness and love, and they returned with extra amount of added love and loyalty.

message 216: by [deleted user] (new)

Since I'm more of a cat-person, I was expecting that there would be at least one story on those mean, evil, sly, cute cats...Alas, there wasn't any :(

You are supposed to be the police, right, since you are the mod :/

message 218: by [deleted user] (new)

Despite my views about animal captivity, I really want to have some pets. We had one puppy when I was myself a puppy, but we had to give him away :(
Manu, your pet history?

Durmukh was excellent to change my perception about ever cute rabbits :P
No, really I liked that angry creature.

Story wise, I didn't like the last one as much as others.

Gorab, we had a pair of rabbits in the past. Only for a month though. I was 3-4 year old then. Or maybe 5.
They were real good. Nothing like Durmukh. Although they were naughty for sure. Mostly used to hide under the bed. And we would cover them with a bamboo basket to protect from cat during nights. Imagine a moving basket...lol.
And I don't want to change that picture of rabbits from my mind, that's why didn't like Durmukh, the angry young rabbit ;)

48. The Merchant and the Alchemist's Gate - ★★★★☆ (weekly read)
49. Uzumaki, Vol. 2 - ★★★★☆
50. India After Gandhi: The History of the World's Largest Democracy - ★★★★+ (with Arpit)

*raises books as a toast for half century*
Had been reading IAG since mid Jan, and immensely enjoyed spending so much of time with it.
This book opens up gates to explore more personalities and stuff related to Indian history. Very glad to have picked it in spite of averse interest,

Not weird to say the least :P

Immensely enjoying OPW. Quite dark. Feeling pity for them. On to the last part and it breaks my heart seeing the kind of relation they share and the deceit they have to handle :(
Very impressive writing.

Yet to start H.

Wife's journal:
DNF Suitable boy after a couple of chapters - not in a mood to pursue such a huge one. And it didn't strike as anything special.

I'm very happy that irked by my recos, she has started picking books ahead of me. She's also very happy to have read One and a Half Wife in a couple of days. 4 stars she says... and doesn't gives any review. Her excuse being to avoid any spoilers for me. Yes she has recod that as a time pass book which I'll eventually read. No idea what she's reading next - DNF Dhai Ghar after a couple of pages.... because the hardcover was not comfortable to read. (And I'm like :O!!!!!)
Next DNF Three Plays: Naga-Mandala; Hayavadana; Tughlaq - Read the 18 page long intro, but found the starting of play too difficult and hence.....

By the way, she is also able to watch more movies than me :) :) :)
We watched Arrival (5+7) and Lion (8+7.5) together in the past two days. And she continued watching La La Land (4) and Moonlight (6).

In brackets are our ratings. Somehow we rate books on a scale of 5, and movies on a scale of 10. Must be GR and IMDB effects.

So long... Goodbye for now.

AAwwwww..... Suitable Boy DNFd? Perhaps she felt there's no need to search for one, at this late stage. :P

One and a half wife - I will surely read

I understand the thing about DNFing Hard Cover... been there, done that.... but I exchanged it for ebook, rather than DNFing

Movies - no comments :D

message 245: by [deleted user] (new)

One question: does your wife used to read books before marriage? Or watch so many movies?

Or your effect?

Also which rating is yours? The second ones, imo?!

Wife's Journal! I liked that title. Any movie or book that one of you hated and other absolutely loved?

message 247: by [deleted user] (new)

Also, if she's reading so much books lately, why don't you introduce her to GR as well? Or are you afraid? :P :P

Dhai Ghar, which she DNF bcoz of hardcover doesn't has a paperback edition. And Kindle edition costs more than hardcover :|

She's started The Sari Shop and going to continue it.

We are rubbing our characteristics on to each other :)
She used to read books (only academic and finance related :P), but no movies.
Yes 2nd ratings were mine... how did you guess Sherlock?

Movies I hate and she loves:
1. Almost everything from Romedy Now.
2. I don't even remember the movie names.

Reverse:
1. All sci-fi. Most of Christopher Nolan - Inception, Interstellar.
2. Gangs of Wasseypur.

Introduce her to GR? She knows about it and I'm not holding her back to join. She considers it an utter waste of time. [Afraid? YES!]
