Had an amazing reading weekend.
Realised that graphic novels need a lot more effort than what I initially thought. And not just eye-strain wise.

Reading progress over the weekend:
Matilda - finished (from 50%)
Burma Chronicles - 100 pages. Fun part has reduced but information and knowledge exchange is superb.
Idiot - Combination of audio and text. At 20%
Volga se Ganga - 50 pages. At 100 pages now and very impressive so far.
Hobbit - only one chapter. Will be reading more of it this week.

Picking up next:
Good-Bye, Mr. Chips

On Sunday, switched roles for a while at home. So while wife went for groceries and other stuff, me took to babysitting and cooking.
Idiot - Audio book is real sleep inducing! Wish it could induce sleep to the kid rather than me!

Saw my wife crying in the evening. No it wasn't bcoz of the food!
She cried while reading the last parts of Aapka Bunty :P
And that's reason enough to give it 5 stars... Not that I love to see her cry!

5. Matilda - ★★★½
6. Aapka Bunti - Perfect 5! ✪✪✪✪✪

My weekend was drought affected, in terms of reading.
Glad to know that you read a lot..
And really , really... when I saw the words...
saw my wife crying in the evening, no it wasnt bcoz of food...... I thought your too much reading was the reason behind it... she felt neglected enough to cry.

And a very very dubious reason to give 5 sars .... the psychologist in me is awake and pondering......(*・_・)ノ

First order of 2017.
One Sahitya Akademi - Deewar Mein Ek Khirkee Rehti Thi
One reco - Neela Scarf
One author I want to read - Terms and Conditions Apply (Review seems bad, but couldn't resist trying out how bad :|)

And a secondhand book. Not very promising either, but this is the only "novel" by Khushwant uncle unread. Plus it was offered real cheap :)

Fizz of the new year enthusiasm has waned off... and reading is all haywire now.
In spite of deciding to finish hobbit first, picked up GoodBye Mr Chips as planned, and Deewar Mein Ek... out of impulse.

Now convincing myself halting "reading" of Hobbit was a good decision bcoz now will be switching over to much acclaimed Audio :)

Enjoyed this graphic novel as well. And it is a gem for challenges - non-fiction, travelogue, translated, biography ;)

7. Burma Chronicles - ★★★★☆

I am going to try out the Audio of Hobbit from tomorrow. At 57% now. And not very impressed.

LOL....good luck with Hobbit.
Audio is much easier, I assure you both.
For me new year started without fizz and now slowly I am getting into groove...or so I assure myself.

Thx Smi. The audio worked wonders!

8. Deewar Mein Ek Khirkee Rahati Thi - ★★☆☆☆
Started this as soon as the package was delivered. And finished within a couple of days.

9. The Hobbit - ★★★★☆
This is the book which changed my mind to start considering audio-books for almost anything I could get my hands on.

Reading this week:
Some more of Idiot
Some more of Volga to Ganga
Starting Neela Scarf
Starting one graphic novel (Saga or Maus)

Sankara Jayanth S (sankarajayanth) | 1158 comments Oh, audiobooks do work wonders! Especially for books like The Hobbit where you find it hard to read through certain pages. You should check out Librivox android app, it has free audiobooks, it has a lot of audiobooks for classics and many of them are very good.

Is there any audiobook in Hindi?

I have heard a few Manto stories in Hindi. Haven't tried any other.
But a lof of short stories are available.
https://archive.org/details/Suno.Kahani

There's this app which shows a few ... Premchand's Gaban being one of them - https://play.google.com/store/apps/de...

There are quite a lot of others too.

Read lesser this weekend than anticipated. But enjoyed everything read.
Generally wife tries to convince me to go shopping over the weekend. This time I wasn't so reluctant as we were going towards MG Road, and all the while I had Blossoms in my mind ;)
Alas! Explored a little bit of Blossoms but didn't buy even a single book :( Time constraints.
We'll go "shopping" again next time when there's ample time :)

Overall a fun filled weekend with balanced reading and loads of eating :) :) :)

10. Absolute Khushwant - ★★★☆☆
11. Good-Bye, Mr. Chips - ★★★★☆

Other than these, read the below too :
a few more pages of Dozakhnama... and immensely enjoyed them.
Volga to Ganga - Lots of food for thought. Very enjoyable read this one too.
Neela Scarf - Couple of stories which were very nice and crisp.
Flight of Pigeons - Couple of chapters more. A scene from Indian Freedom Struggle from the British POV. Makes for an interesting read.
Saga, Volume 1 - The *best* visuals I've ever seen in a graphic novel. Being a beginner in this genre, haven't seen much. But this is beautiful.. (and gore and explicit!)

Touched a bit on everything in my current reads (except Idiot) and enjoyed them all.
Wait, did I mention anything about the cricket match part in the fun filled weekend? That was the icing on the cake :)

Went lazy in updating the reading log.
12. Saga, Volume One - ★★★★☆
13. A Flight Of Pigeons - ★★★☆☆

This week was pretty dull in terms of reading. Not enough quality continuous time with books... a few titsy bitsy here and there.
Did that make me sad?.. ummm... well.... maybe...

Most enjoyable - reading a story every night from Neela scarf. May be enjoyable bcoz I get to sit around lazily staring at the ceiling making weird faces while wife does all the reading part :P

Which reminds me - the better half had a fantastic reading week. Other than Neela Scarf, she read Illicit Happyness and tremendously enjoyed it. And she found it very very disturbing as well.

And that makes me happier (not the disturbing part!!) as I see prospects of our stronger bond over books :) :)

To compensate on the lesser reading, re-loaded shelf with 10 new titles :D :D (arriving next week! All thanks to Amazon!)
So... Am I still sad? Hell NO!

Started back on Idiot Part 2 - At Chapter 4 now. (The least interesting of current reads)
Volga to Ganga - Couple of stories more. The recent chapters got more complex and less enjoyable.
Dozakhnama - zero reading this week.
Blue Scarf - 10 stories done. 2 more to go. Very much enjoying this one.
And finally started with India After Gandhi. Its going to take an eternity. Couple of chapters and this is soooooo very informative, and interesting!! Didn't expect to get hooked so much by a non-fiction!

All 10 books are Hindi. Some of them I suspect might not reach the 2nd page of reading (classic Hindi Poetry!) - If that happens I'll continue the challenge of clearing the shelf :P
Will put out a pic once delivered. Pretty excited as 3 are hardcover editions :)

Couple of years back I was uncomfortable with my mother tongue. Started putting in some effort and reading some. Slowly the effort part is reducing and fun is increasing. Still not there where I should be.

Loads of more Hindi lined up... the mix one day is going to be 50-50 for English.

15. वोल्गा से गंगा - ★★★★☆
16. Adulthood Is a Myth - ★★½

Quite a decent and satisfactory beginning of year with 16 books and 3200+ pages. Falls short for the 50k pages challenge but I'm content with the way current reads are going.

Ongoing tomes :
Idiot - at 40% losing enthusiasm.
Dozakhnama - at 70% and going strong. Impeccable so far!
India After Gandhi - 15%. Spearhead of current reads. Highly informative.

Up next:
Casual vacancy (joining Aparna and Rebecca)
Night train at Deoli
The vegetarian
Me Before You
Pride and prejudice (joining Arpit and Sundara)

Skeptical about GoT and Lotr. Might have to skip them.
