It sounds familiar, but I am not seeing anything on my read shelf that matches. It may be one of the books on this list though.I'll keep looking through my old pre-goodreads reading journal to see if it pops up.
Reminds me of Vampire State of Mind by Jane Lovering although the protagonist works for the authorities policing vampires rather than as a detective. Vampire ex and demon threat fit though. Cover doesn't seem to match but maybe there was another edition?
I looked and state of mind seems slightly familiar. I'm not sure if that's what I'm looking for but thanks!

If I remember correctly the main goal of the book was to either infiltrate or eliminate a group of demons/vampires/supernaturals terrorizing the city.
The main protagonist was female, older than teens probably mid twenties. She worked either as a detective or PI and her client/boss required her to do this job with her ex boyfriend (who I'm 90% sure is a vamp).
I recall a scene near the beginning where she enters her office to find it ransacked and other where she is on a stakeout outside a building.
The cover I remember quite well. On the bottom right is a man wearing a red shirt. The backrough is dark blue/blackish depicting an urban setting.
I would like to add that this book isn't one from the Vicki Nelson series. Normally it wouldn't be such a big deal but after so many hours of searching with no results, it's more about honor than anything. Please let me know what you find! I really would like to finish it.
