I'll admit when I first got added to twitter lists I was clueless and asked what the heck is going on. Then I took part in a chat and read a small article on them by Kevan Lee: https://blog.bufferapp.com/twitter-lists and suddenly I not only had the knowledge of what they were but I wanted to make my own and expand on them by putting them to use. Twitter lists are a good way for you to follow someone who posts about topics you are interested in frequently. I use it as a way to follow certain people who use and are a part of the site Buffer and I also have a list of my Best Followers, people who have that blue check mark and are good to get in contact with because they are quite popular and influential.
They are a good way to organize certain people you follow whose posts you wish to see in the event you don't always see their posts on your feed because it gets built up and hidden by others. Kevan Lee's article mentions this but I will emphasize it, when making and following lists it's good to be a part of 10 lists and under. Also make sure these lists have 15 people and under, this way you can easily keep up with peoples content and not have anyone get lost in the shuffle. Finally when someone adds you to a list it's because they feel a tweet you made really resonated with them so they put you under a list they likely follow. I would not recommend following these lists unless they are like the ones I described and have 15 or less followers but they likely have 500+ followers and it's pointless to follow such a list unless you really want to.
If you haven't tried Twitter Lists now is the best time to try them. They are simple, sufficient, won't take up much of your time and you may find them useful and as a way to somehow help you to make your Twitter experience better.
