Steph (angel4492) | 32706 comments PSS: Now's a good time to add books to our group bookshelf, esp those you might want to read for your free space book this or future rounds of BSB.

All books fitting the following are welcome:
~ PNR/UF/Sci-Fi/Fantasy genres (M/F and/or M/M welcome)
~ Part of a series, trilogy or duology
~ Adult, NA, or YA

Please make sure, when adding books to our bookshelves, to mark them as READ, not to-be-read or currently reading despite your personal read status. This is the group's bookshelf - TBR and currently reading are used for this group's upcoming book of the month and series reads. Thanks!

Let me know if you have any questions.

I listened to the first novella on audio and you're right - awesome narration. I love hearing Roarke's brogue! I wasn't a super fan of her Peabody voice, though. Not how I pictured her sounding. :)

It took me a while to get used to her Peabody voice too. Now, though, it's how I always picture her sounding when I read the books lol.

It makes sense to start it now before it gets over 60 books. The longer you put it off, the harder it'll be to start.

Minuska (minuskaa) | 132 comments oh are there audio books of all the in death books? I never heard of the series, but it sounds like a good idea for summer months for cycling, when there is less time to read..

Thanks for the reminder, Steph! I just added a few books to the group bookshelf.

message 112: by Kim (new)

Kim Shumaker (kim_shumaker) | 707 comments Steph, I hate to do it to ya...but you definitely need to take the plunge and try the In Death series. I have to agree that the audiobooks are the way to go. The narrator is excellent and to the best of my knowledge all of her books are available in audio. And since your hubby enjoys listening to audio....it's perfect!

I'm on the 3rd book and what I like most is that each book stands alone (at least so far). There's a beginning and an end - no cliffhanger. I listen to it driving back and forth to work and I only work 3 miles from home so it takes about a month for me to get through one. Since the story wraps up so nicely there isn't the push to start the next book which I really like. I can go a few weeks, months, whatever and then pick back up again when I'm ready for the next adventure. I think knowing that I'm not going to be saddled down with a 40-something book series one after the other makes it less intimidating.

Okay, that went on way longer than I had planned...lol...sorry about that. But I do think you would enjoy the series. :)

message 113: by Ezi (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 2516 comments I didn't enjoy the In Death series. I tried 3 books but it didn't resonate with me. It's not for everyone. But then again, I didn't like Charley Davidson despite reading 4 of those books

message 114: by Sam (last edited Jan 07, 2017 09:28AM) (new)

Sam | 1052 comments All of the books and all of the short stories are on audio and all are read by Susan Erikson.

And yes, each book is an individual story and ends at the end of the book. No cliffhangers. The main reason to read them in order is for character development.

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments I am so in love with Mr. Mira after the last few books. Roarke is still sigh worthy, but I adore Mr. Mira.

Art (aka Whistler Reads) (art-whistlerreads) | 874 comments Getting the rules right, I think I saw...
If the ***First Book of a Series*** is on our list, ***The Rest*** are too...
Is that right??? And, would that include the ***third***, the ***seventh***, the ***etc.***???

Mr Mira made some of his famous hot chocolate for Eve in Concealed in Death (In Death, #38) by J.D. Robb and gave her a red wool hat & gloves (with a sparkly snowflake) and because Mr Mira gave them to her, she felt she had to wear them.

message 119: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments Steph...just gonna weigh in on the In Death! Pick it up...lots of fun! And now get the whole Roarke thing.

LOL, got a US library card last year...and read almost all of it. I've got some shorts to catch up on/savor, and had one left to read this year (they had EVERY book except Devoted in Death...why?????) but, the library finally picked it up and I got to read it a couple days ago.

message 120: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Went to a book signing near me many years ago (In Death was only 5 or 6 books in) and saw Nora Roberts. I bought and had her sign duplicates of Naked In Death & Glory In Death because I'd already read my copies to pieces.

message 128: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Agree with you on both points, Ezi. Didn't like either of those series.

What rule is Art referring to? I've been clicking around but don't see it! :(

message 132: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments She is referring to Free Space - using the lists which only have the 1st in series listed. If the 1st in series is there, any book from that series is OK. I would think that most of them would already be on the bookshelves anyway.

message 140: by Belinda (new)

Belinda | 801 comments I know there's still a week to go but one of our teams members hasn't checked in. I tried PM'ing but no response. Do we keep waiting?

message 141: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Hmmm, she hasn't been on GR, so I'd say she hasn't seen your PM yet.

She hasn't played before so probably has no clue you're waiting on her. She's probably thinking she has till the 18th to check in.

If she hasn't shown by shelf-call, I think it will be easy enough to replace her as we have a couple of standbys.

Meanwhile you can pick a captain & a name Belinda :)

message 144: by Moondance (last edited Jan 12, 2017 06:29AM) (new)

Moondance (moondance120) | 2140 comments I usually make a nice pot of tea when I snuggle down to read on the weekend. This past Saturday we had snow(not a common thing here in the South) and I opened a bottle of wine. I don't think I moved for about 4 hours. Of course I was reading some sappy romance stuff and boo hooing most of the time. Maybe I'll try the wine with a kick ass heroine next time.

BTW: My friends don't let me drink tequila. It makes me mouthy. I'm strictly a Stoli girl when we go out.

message 145: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments LOL. I'm more a vodka girl too :)

I want my Stoli straight if it comes from the freezer or on the rocks if not. Sometimes a lemon is okay but I don't want anything mixed in it. I once ordered Stoli at Myrtle Beach where they use mini bottles and the bartender kept asking me what I wanted it in. I said just a glass and he insisted that I needed a mixer. It took several minutes back and forth to convince him that yes I did want to drink it straight. >:-)
