T.J. (teejayslee) | 18 comments She's becoming a jazz fan. And I don't just mean coffee house kind of jazz. I mean full on Trad plus that interpretive piano twiddling stuff.

I should have seen the signs earlier but love is blind. I like jumping up and down at the front of a stage full of crashing guitars and she likes R&B, so Coldplay was a place we could meet halfway. Then she started sliding over into funk. For me a night out isn't a night out unless your feet leave the ground at some point. But funk is a thing where your hips do most of the moving and your feet and head stay grounded. Still, it was OK I told myself, maybe it's just a phase.

But the last few weekends I've come out into the kitchen and she's listening to the JAZZ channel. And I get this physical reaction to it, like my skin starts itching and my back teeth ache and I just want to Turn It Off. "No, leave it," she says. "I'm listening to that."

So today, for the first time in our relationship, I ate breakfast alone.

I know it's a first world problem but it's mine so I need to hear a voice of hope. Is it over between us? Can you love a jazz fan, but hate jazz? Is there some sort of intervention that could turn her away from the dark side? Is it me? Should I just embrace this new 'her' and try to enjoy the fact that from now on, every gig we go to, we are going to be the youngest people in the audience?
