The book ends with Gwen learning she has breast cancer. Why would the author go in this direction given this is the last book in the series?

Robin (robinmy) | 1214 comments I think she is just pausing the series to write other things. She is probably planning on coming back to it at some time.

Phrynne | 607 comments I thought it was a very odd thing to do altogether. I also realised that I have no connection to any of the characters when I was not concerned by Gwen's situation. She is not at all real to me.

Kava wrote this story in 2013. I'm not sure she'll come back to this one.

Phrynne, Gwen is such an uneven character (as are others in this series). She's defined as being sort of a surrogate mother to Maggie and her best friend but doesn't tell her about the biopsy??? But Julia Racine knows? And don't get me started on when in the last book Kava insinuated that Tully may have felt more comfortable being alone!

This comes out of the blue for a character that really hasn't had much presence until this story. And, she blew everything with Otis. She got nothing right other than determining he wasn't dim witted.

Phrynne | 607 comments You put your finger on it right there Jonetta - Gwen was a character who had not had much presence until this story. I didn't know her, didn't care about her and even felt that Tully was over her. Plus in this story she is yet another supposedly talented, smart woman who just fell apart constantly and never demonstrated her smartness at all. (a bit like Maggie actually)
