A new character is introduced, Ryder Creed, who seems to have some emotional issues stemming from his sister's disappearance 15 years ago. Your thoughts about how he was crafted?

Robin (robinmy) | 1214 comments I found this character interesting. He is looking for his sister who disappeared many years ago. He assumes she is dead since he is using his dogs to look for bodies. I think this character is promising, but really don't want to continue into the spin-off series.

I really liked him and the promise of the character's future development. However, I fear Kava is going to handicap him the same way she has Maggie. Already he has a drinking problem (he had a blackout in the first chapter) and has relationship issues. But, he shows up self assured, confident and highly skilled in every other way.

I just wish she'd just create the character and have this stuff be a lesser aspect of their makeup. Why couldn't he just have occasional nightmares instead of serious psychological issues?

I agree. It's nice to have a character with different traits that make them stand out, but when the traits start overwhelming the makeup of the character, it gets a little hard to take.

I agree, Robin. With Maggie, I worried about her love affair with Scotch. Then it was the headaches. Then her fear of tight spaces. And on and on and on. I guess that's why I was so annoyed when Creed shows up with a drinking problem and Gwen gets breast cancer.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 2240 comments I also liked Creed and am interested in his backstory and how he came to be involved in training dogs.

I wasn't that happy about the physical attraction with Maggie though and felt it was unnecessay and added little to the story.

I will probably read the spin-off though.

Robin (robinmy) | 1214 comments You'll have to let us know if it the Ryder Creed books are better than this series.
