I've got an MC who starts out by feeling she's a bit part actor in someone else's story - which she sort of is - so her arc is all about earning the name of protagonist in her own tale. The main supporting character is a self-serving slob who has become hugely cynical and disillusioned for some very complex reasons. His arc is about finding something new to believe in - something he feels is worth committing to - something that offers him a kind of redemption. (I thought I'd mention the redemption bit because this is, after all, a thread about the Bible.) Their development is all mapped out in advance because my last two books proved to me the great importance of planning, pace and structure. The development of the two main characters needs, I think, to be part of that planning.
I may be wrong, but there doesn't seem to be a thread where one can discuss general matters, not about individual books. Now, if I'm wrong, and there is a facility to chat about stuff, oh you know - giraffes, Donald Trump, whether Andrew Lloyd Webber is a serial plagiarist, the importance of cheese in Benelux history.... then this post will serve no purpose.
Once again, I notice that I needed to complete 'This topic is about' which requires me to name a book, which is not what I wanted to do. I have chosen the Holy Bible for no reason whatsoever.
What I wanted to talk about was your individual approaches to character development.
Fond regards
